Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!

Chapter 278: An Easy Game!

"Yes! Kwong Wing Ki makes a mistake!" Bagas, who was in the media booth provided by the organizer, jumped excitedly when he saw the evaluation bar jump for Sheva's favor, ignoring the stares he received from the other media booths around him. "Out of eight games that we are currently watching, it seems that Sheva's game is the first one where we see a massive breakthrough happen! A mistake has been made, and now, it is Sheva who gains the advantage! What do you think about this position, Master Irene? Master Susanto?' He asked the two veterans who were kind enough to accompany him here.

Yeah, those two who decided not to play in the first round to give a chance for Sheva and Claudia to adapt got roped by Bagas to join the booth as the commentators. Even though Irfan was willing to do that, people would also start to feel bored if he were the only commentator available. Moreover, Master Susanto and Irene were also high-level players, so their insight would definitely not be worse than Irfan's.

"Well, the mistake itself is quite simple, but the consequence is fatal." Master Susanto started explaining. "The right move that the white piece should make is, of course, to slide the queen to the D7 square. Not only would it put the piece into safety and still protect the rook from afar, Kwong Wing Ki would also prevent the rook infiltration in the A file, as if Sheva dared to do that, his other rook in the F8 square would be weak. In fact, look at this. Once something like that happened, it would be Sheva who would lose the game. Look, mate in 5 is on the board if that scenario becomes the reality!"

Even though Bagas himself couldn't quite follow the explanation since Master Susanto explained and demonstrated everything so fast, that didn't mean he wasn't impressed here. Hell, the boy was dumbfounded at the possible scenario, somehow fearing that Sheva was on the verge of losing earlier. Of course, he forgot that Sheva would never get caught in such a trap, so he was worried for nothing here.

"Then, why is the queen's move to the E2 considered a mistake? I mean, the concept is still similar, right? Avoiding the threat while protecting the queen at the same time?" The boy inquired.

"The difference is that Kwong Wing Ki doesn't have any threat on the D7 square, just like what Master Susanto just demonstrated earlier." This time, it was Irene who answered this question. "This way, Sheva could make his rook infiltrate through the A file without worrying about anything, and the threat to the white king is going to be overwhelming for Kwong Wing Ki to handle."

RonaldOSIu007: Damn! One wrong placement, and all the defense he builds crumbles instantly? Chess sure is a cruel game!

Inhong670: That is why it is important to calculate carefully!

Hilda99: Come on, Sheva! You are so close to the first win today!

Bibisenna34: Hell, yeah! Come on, Boy!

Bagas smiled instantly when he saw the enthusiasm shown by the viewers in the live chat room. Even though he himself didn't quite understand the explanation, the boy knew that Sheva was doing well right now, and it started to attract more viewers. This was definitely a double-happiness for the boy, and it would be better if everything went like this for the rest of the game.

Sheva himself didn't really know the commotion he made on the live broadcast. Right now, his mind was still locked into the game, waiting for his opponent to make a move. It seemed that Kwong Wing Ki himself still hadn't realized the mistake that he had made earlier, as the Hong Kong player was still eyeing his knight, probably wanting to start threatening something even though his defense looked horrible.

If anything, though, Sheva would welcome something like that with open hands.

'Come on, if you are not satisfied with only making one mistake, let me get another one!' He clenched his fist unconsciously. 'Don't think too much! Just make a mistake and let me kill you, man!'

True enough, after thinking for fifteen whole minutes, Kwong Wing Ki made a mistake, ignoring all of the threats he faced and just put his knight on the D7 square. Seeing this, Sheva didn't hesitate even for a second, sliding his rook down to the A2 square to threaten the white's queen. Of course, the best choice here was to take the rook and offer a trade, but Sheva could've just ignored it and torn Kwong Wing Ki's defense to get his knight, so it was definitely not the best choice.

In the end, everything looked bleak for the white piece, and that was when Kwong Wing Ki finally realized how fucked up his position was. However, if anything, this only made the man panic more. He thought for a while, even biting his own nail, which showed how nervous he was. In the end, though, with only ten minutes on the board, Kwong Wing Ki made one last mistake that seemed to be the final nail in the coffin.

He let Sheva's rook and queen infiltrate deep without any restraint, and the next few moves were definitely a nightmare for him. No matter how hard Kwong Wing Ki tried to rebuild his defense, Sheva would always be three steps ahead in this race, tearing everything in his territory. Finally, once the king itself was tired of the chase and couldn't run away anymore, the Hong Kong player finally shook his head slightly before offering a handshake, accepting his defeat.

Kwong Wing Ki (1836) – (2309) Adrian Sheva

'Finally…' Sheva took a deep breath, feeling a huge burden on his shoulder that he himself didn't know anything about, suddenly got lifted up.

This win also boosted his teammates' confidence, as the three of them suddenly got more motivated than ever to win their games. While Sheva could see that some of them—like Arfan and Novendra's games—were still in a drawish position, the expression on their eyes basically told the boy that this wouldn't last forever. They would make a move soon and follow his step to beat their opponents.

'Oh, well… At least, my first step is perfect here…' The boy muttered while also stretching his stiff body a little. 'Now… I wonder how the other games are faring…'
