Some students would play their indie music to show off their unique taste, hoping for recognition; some would play a DJ track, put on a hat, and stand at the podium, constantly adjusting the multimedia volume, fancying themselves as DJ Jiahao from the class next door; or would show a stock chart and start rambling onstage with their friends, thinking they were stock gods...
However, in Class 1 of Grade 4, though many were born in a peculiar way, or as dogs or clowns, there were really none of these distinguished personalities.
At most, Qin Zeyu liked to use multimedia for playing minesweeper.
"Ahem."
While Lin Li and Bai Bufan were discussing whether Ma Jiaqi's world was seen through the bicycle handlebars or the wheels, Wang Ze moved from the Right Guardian's seat to the back row and coughed twice.
No one paid attention.
"Ahem, ahem." He coughed louder this time.
"Bufan, pass me a mask." Lin Li opened the window for ventilation while covering his mouth and reached out to Bai Bufan.
Wang Ze sighed: "..."
"Your mom."
"Lin Li, Bufan, did you check the confession wall today?" Wang Ze directly sat on Bai Bufan's lap, tapped the table, and said in a light tone.
"Nope." Lin Li shook his head.
"You should pay more attention, really take a look. I feel this platform is quite necessary as it provides a channel for communication among everyone. You know, I even saw your clown highlight on the confession wall, aren't you concerned about that?" Wang Ze said seriously.
"Did you get on the confession wall again?" Lin Li asked, frowning.
"What the heck? Huh? Has this spread so widely? Even you both know? Ugh, whatever, nothing much to say about it. On October 23rd at 2:56 p.m., on the confession wall of the Nansang campus, on the fifth picture of that post, they indeed called out my name, Wang Ze, for a confession.
But it isn't important, no need for everyone to remember it. I've already kind of forgotten about it myself. After all, they're trivial things, if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have forgotten.
Although Lin Li, you were on it too, wearing a clown skin, unlike me, original skin. Sigh, I really envy you, having a skin." Wang Ze scratched his head and humbly said.
It's apparent that being this popular is kind of troubling for him.
Lin Li, upon hearing this, tilted his head to look at Bai Bufan behind Wang Ze.
Wang Ze?
Bai Bufan nodded.
Lin Li took another look.
Was it you who submitted it too?
Bai Bufan shook his head.
OK.
Lin Li then looked at Wang Ze, his expression showing a hint of pity for a moment.
See how you've fooled this kid.
"Sigh, honestly, being charismatic is indeed a bit of a headache," Wang Ze continued to say proudly, "being too charismatic isn't that great either, making those two girls shy, even though I've posted my contact information below for so long, they're still mentally preparing themselves, not willing to add me yet.
But I don't mind; I actually like this shy personality. I just hope they can be a bit taller and slimmer."
Wang Ze giggled foolishly, already starting to make choices.
Lin Li glanced at Bai Bufan, and Bai Bufan looked back at Lin Li.
One claims to be 184 but is actually 186, another claims to be 179 but is actually 181, hmm, both quite tall.
And both Lin Li and Bai Bufan are slender—Lin Li used to be a pure stick-figure, now a lean physique, looking toned when shirtless, slim when clothed, which Lin Li himself considers the perfect body.
A burly muscular type like Zhai Kai is not in Lin Li's aesthetic preference at all.
That makes Wang Ze satisfied.
Perfectly meets his taste.
"It should come true, Wang Ze." Thus, Lin Li and Bai Bufan nodded, "Probably even taller than you, you've really hit the jackpot, lucky guy."
"Anything taller than me would be a no, I don't want to have to stand on my tiptoes to kiss a guy, that's just too weird, bro. Between 160 to 170 is perfect." Wang Ze firmly shook his hand after hearing this.
"Who on earth would want to kiss you?" Lin Li's face scrunched slightly in slight disgust at this remark.
"What?" Wang Ze was puzzled.
"Nothing, continue with your wishful thinking." Lin Li waved his hand, "Right now is—fantasy time."
"Ah, right, I didn't come to you just to share this. Lin Li, recommend me some novels, those with deadly group character portrayals, please no more death-filled ones.
I'm tired of those macho novels where the guy just kills and takes the girl. Do you have any about girls killing and taking guys in some lucky gay protagonist way? I'd love to read some of those."
Wang Ze temporarily stows away his drool-inducing fantasies, wondering what to do during tonight's self-study session, so he inquires about serious matters.
"A gay protagonist novel, huh? Want to read something like that, Wang Ze, are you still human?" Bai Bufan wasn't able to hold it in upon hearing this.
"Bufan, I think your hostility towards gays is a bit too much. We shouldn't hate gays; we should even thank them. They haven't only left us with a lot of women but also took away a group of men.
What we should resist is the lesbians, Bufan! They are the ones who are truly evil!" Wang Ze said with a heartfelt tone.
Bai Bufan: "?"
"Seems like... there's a bit of logic there, so... thank the gays?" Bai Bufan found the advice worth considering.
"Great, I've been hoping you'd realize this. Well then, Bufan, would you be willing to use your ass to thank me?" Wang Ze, who had just been sitting on Bai Bufan's lap, started to touch the thigh beneath him, his voice turning seductive.
"The Yan Kingdom's map is that short? Get off me, damn it—" Bai Bufan chuckled and shoved Wang Ze away.
"Is there anything or not? Lin Li, I'm counting on the novel to get me through the evening study." Wang Ze got up with a laugh and looked at Lin Li.
"Water Margin," Lin Li pointed him in a clear direction.
[Imagined dialogue: "Brother, will Madam mind if I join you in the mountains? I'd like to follow your lead."]
Yet again perfectly satisfying Wang Ze.
Wang Ze: "..."
"Makes sense, I'll go with that for tonight." Wang Ze accepted and went back.
Wang Ze hadn't been gone long when Bai Bufan, looking at his phone, tapped Lin Li.
"What's up?"
"The class monitor is really popular, Lin Li, there's a super crisis heading your way."
"What is it?" Upon hearing this, Lin Li looked towards Bai Bufan and directly took his phone.
Bai Bufan was still looking at a post on Nansang Middle School's confession wall, and the phone interface remained there.
And this post he was looking at contained seven pictures, three of which were of Chen Yu Ying from different angles, whether sitting in the audience or standing on the playground. The other four pictures were chat records, generally with commenters wanting to 'fish around'.
Not only were there boys confessing, but also girls, though it could be seen it wasn't admiration, just pure appreciation and a desire to make acquaintances through comments.
—at least, on the surface.
Apparently, this post was made because the confession wall noticed several people simultaneously confessing to a single target, and they made a compilation instead of cramming them into a nine-grid post.
"It's not just this one; a couple of posts earlier also have one photo, likely it's the class monitor as well. Today the confession wall has posted nearly a few dozen posts, and I haven't gone through them much yet. There could be others to find."
Bai Bufan stretched and said:
"She surely has wild fans, not Ding Sihan and Qu Wanqiu doing it."
Lin Li raised an eyebrow upon hearing that.
These people's photography skills are really lacking, not knowing what they're doing with each shot.
'Suddenly' being popular is normal; after all, Chen Yu Ying previously didn't have the chance to 'appear openly', and people didn't have phones to post even if they wanted, but now they do, so in some respect she has 'stepped onto the stage', plus everyone has mobile phones now.
However, he didn't feel much about it.
Scrolling with his finger, Lin Li moved to the comment section.
「Old Lady on the Street: Love confession for P3! Looks nice! +1!」
「Zou Weilun: That's our class monitor in Class 1 of Grade 4, Chen Yu Ying.」
You're really getting involved in everything.
Zou Weilun was also from Class 4, in the same dormitory as Wang Yuezhi, but Lin Li wasn't familiar with him.
「Ding Sihan: No need to fish or add, it won't be approved.」
Xiaodingding, I've always thought you were impressive since I was young, Lin Li mused.
Thinking for a moment, Lin Li returned the phone to Bai Bufan and took out his own phone to leave a comment.
「Old Horse in the Stable: Indeed, no need to fish or add, I heard she already likes someone, seems to be named 'Old Horse in the Stable'.」
