Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 380: Triggering the Defense Mechanism

White feathers.

After examining it for a while, Kane threw the feather back onto the ground.

He recalled in his mind the white birdman explorer he had briefly encountered before.

Could it be that person?

After discarding the feather, Kane began to inspect the armored lion's wound.

Judging by the severity of the wound, this lion has been dead for less than two hours.

So many creatures have died.

The dungeon's mechanisms should have activated by now.

"Did anyone hear any noises coming from this direction just now?" Kane asked.

"Didn't hear anything."

"We don't seem to have heard anything either."

Upon hearing the response, Kane nodded. Judging by the time of death of these creatures, the explorer who took them down shouldn't be far away.

If the mist's defense mechanism had activated, there shouldn't be silence, which likely indicates the dungeon's defense mechanism hasn't been triggered yet.

Forget it, no point in thinking about this here.

Kane and his team gathered up their things and continued toward their destination.

"So many have died, do you think there's something wrong with those explorers?" Kreya said while frowning at the increasing number of corpses.

Kane and the others remained silent, just more vigilant, unable to give a reasonable answer.

In addition to the increasing number of bodies around, the smell of blood was growing stronger.

Kane suddenly stopped.

His Divine Martial Gaze continuously warned him.

Seeing Kane halt abruptly, Kreya's equipment flashed with brilliance, transforming into the golden Lion Suit, and the weapon in her hand changed to the Flying Wing Dual Blades.

Not just Kreya, Longbei and the others were also becoming mutually cautious.

After briefly being bewildered, Funa quickly understood the situation; after all, she was an experienced Silver Explorer.

Together with her teammates, she entered a state of alertness.

The road ahead continued to prick at Kane's Divine Martial Gaze.

"We'll retreat from this area for now." Kane offered no further explanation and began leading his teammates back along the original path.

Meanwhile, a few kilometers away, a group of explorers were slaughtering nearby living creatures indiscriminately, regardless of hostility.

A race without ears suddenly spoke, its eyes covered in black cloth: "Not good, the Fog Squad has returned."

"What's going on?" A burly man with a scarred face and scales all over his body immediately asked upon hearing this.

"I don't know what's going on; they just suddenly turned back."

A nearby birdman covered in white feathers narrowed its eyes slightly and raked its feathers with sharp claws.

"As expected, we can't underestimate them. Perhaps they've found some way to know we're ambushing them or sensed danger."

"What do we do now?"

"Have the curse marks been set up?"

"That's been done long ago."

Upon hearing the burly man's response, the white-feathered birdman quickly addressed the explorers currently hunting: "Ancestral Guest, come over quickly."

A figure cloaked in black robes transformed into white mist and appeared before the white-feathered birdman.

"What's the matter?"

"Take me near the Fog Squad."

"No problem."

As soon as the words were spoken, the figure wrapped in black robes turned into white mist, enveloping the birdman as they swiftly floated towards Kane and his team. As they floated, the birdman's words echoed over.

"Activate the curse marks."

Upon hearing the transmitted words, the burly man pulled out a bright red object from his space equipment, resembling a heart that was still faintly pulsing.

With a firm squeeze, the pulsing heart instantly turned to ashes.

Countless creatures fleeing from the explorers' hunt bore red marks; when the heart shattered, these marks erupted.

A leopard licking its wounds between the trees, a wild boar snoozing in the grass, and a rabbit chewing grass alertly on the plains.

Each had hidden red marks, which rapidly spread over them. These animals, lost in their own worlds.

Silently, they became desiccated bones.

Such occurrences were happening throughout a vast surrounding area.

The scent of blood rose violently.

Kane and his team, returning along the original path, smelled the abrupt explosion of blood aroma, fresh as if newly spilled at their feet.

Kane's Divine Martial Gaze began frantically warning him, like an air raid siren reverberating inside his mind.

"Awooooo!"

A deafening wolf howl emerged from afar, and an overwhelming pressure swept through.

All explorers within this range felt as if they had entered a mighty beast's territory, their chests heavy, hindering their breaths.

Kane and his team were also forced to halt, vigilantly surveying the surroundings.

"So many creatures have died; has the dungeon's defense mechanism initiated?" Kreya asked.

Longbei, standing beside her, questioned: "But these creatures weren't killed by us; will we also be affected?"

"No one knows for sure now. If we become the target of that golden-level beast, remember to flee and don't confront it head-on."

Listening to their captain's orders, the team immediately nodded.

To be safe, Kane turned to the side and said to Lilu: "Put the mark on me."

Upon hearing Kane's words, Lilu immediately waved her magic staff, and a colorful star mark appeared on Kane's hand.

Kreya saw the situation and immediately asked, "What are you planning to do?"

Kane did not answer her, but shouted toward the front, not far away, "Someone, be careful!"

As soon as he finished speaking, two figures appeared in the distance: one cloaked in black robes, and a white-feathered birdman.

"Captain Kane, long time no see."

"It's you."

It was indeed that white-feathered birdman, seeing the black-robed figure beside him.

Looking again at the white-feathered birdman's race.

"Are you people from the Black Mist?" Kane's mind connected all the clues, he asked.

Kane's sudden words caused the white-feathered birdman to reveal a bit of surprise in his eyes.

"You're quite sharp, Captain Kane."

"However, you'll die here."

After saying that, the birdman stared directly at Kane, then a dagger appeared in his hand and was plunged into his own chest.

What does this mean?

Kane and his team, who were on guard, watched this scene and felt puzzled.

Not pretending, visibly, the white-feathered birdman's breath became weaker and weaker, with blood gushing out from his wound.

Soon after, the white-feathered birdman's life force was completely extinguished.

With the birdman's death, a huge creature that was rushing over stopped in its tracks.

Upon hearing the sounds stop, Kane and his team understood that it was probably this white-feathered birdman who was slaughtering, becoming the target of the Mist countermeasure mechanism.

Although they didn't know what was happening, Kane's danger foresight still didn't stop, so he prepared to immediately lead his team away.

A sharp pain appeared again on his wrist, looking down, only to see a circle of blood-red lines appearing on his wrist.

The black-robed figure in front dragged the birdman's corpse and left the spot, disappearing.

The huge creature that had stopped now charged toward Kane again.

"Damn, I'm the target now."

The commotion of the assault and the sudden appearance of red markings on his wrist made Kane realize he had been set up.

Although he could not understand all the information, the situation just informed Kane that the white-feathered birdman had somehow used his life as a sacrifice to transfer the countermeasure mechanism's target to Kane.

"It's coming," Meizike suddenly shouted.

Kane grabbed the Crystal Long Spear; there was no time to hesitate further.

Layers of steel armor pieces began to extend from his body as the Curse Dragon Mecha formed once again around him.

Longbei quickly transformed into a 5-meter-tall Gray Stone Giant, his Shield expanding out.

Kreya stepped on radiant light, various Enhancements spread out, enveloping everyone within.

Funa and the others felt countless Enhancements mysteriously added to them, tangibly feeling their strength doubled.

An Angel's phantom appeared above everyone's heads; with the Angel's downward breath, all the Enhancements on them were strengthened again.

"What is this?"

The Angel Siblings, Xi and Rui, clearly felt the familiarity of this power, eyes filled with shock.

Yet given the current circumstances, there was no time to dwell on these thoughts.

The figure, making the loud commotion, finally revealed itself.

It was a giant blood-red wolf with golden yellow eyes locked onto Kane.

Then, with a leap, it transformed into a fluid resembling blood, instantly crashing into Kane, so fast that no one could react in time.

The Mecha around Kane shattered directly, and even parts that weren't hit similarly fractured.

With this impact, Kane was expelled from the Mecha interior, rolling backward until it stopped against a boulder.

"Kane!"

A series of Knight figures appeared beside Kreya, along with her transforming into a Ghost wreathed in blue flames.

Like the charge of thousands of troops, they rushed toward the blood-red wolf, which had reverted to its original form.

Longbei also stood blocking Kane, while Meizike kept infusing red particles into Kane's body.

A blue Magic Palm appeared beside the blood-red wolf, covering it, but upon touch, the blue palm shattered instantly.

Discovered.

Rui controlled golden Holy Light, like threads, penetrating Kane's body to heal him.

Xi was adorned in transparent Holy Light Armor, wielding a sword and flying toward the blood-red wolf.

Numerous wreckage-like mechanical Puppets emerged from Funa's side, racing toward the blood-red wolf.

Facing several coming for it, the blood-red wolf paid no attention, transforming into red fluid and vanished.

Its goal was solely one, Kane.

The red fluid reappeared behind Kane.

As the fluid appeared, Kane instantly flashed away.

Cannot wait for the wolf to attack; its speed is overwhelming, offering no chance of evasion when it does.

The only good news now is that the red wolf's target is solely Kane, ignoring all of Kreya's team's actions and causing them no harm or effect.

Their attacks couldn't even touch the wolf's fur.

This is the golden level, an absolute suppression over silver.

Appearing on the other side, Kane gulped down a Potion, Meizike's classic creation, the Crown of Valor.

Longbei appeared before Kane once again, blocking him, Kreya appeared behind Kane.

Yet in an instant, Longbei's Iron Wall Shield Defense transformed into a shadow that shattered, knocked into the ground with Shield raised, unable to even maintain the Giant form.

The red wolf didn't disdain attacking Longbei; if forced to block Kane's path, then he wouldn't hesitate nor hold back.
