Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 252 Crisis of Destruction

Nightfall.

The cold wind howled as the walls of the Volcano Fortress were lined with a dense array of soldiers, with countless defensive machines lining the entire length of the walls.

Banners of each legion fluttered in the wind atop the walls.

Di Berrio stood in the center of the wall, facing the soldiers around and below him, standing in orderly formations.

As the commander of the army, while he wasn't the strongest in the corps, he was certainly among the top in terms of strength.

"Today, we face our final battle with the demons, who dare to try breaking through our defenses and releasing those demons that our ancestors sealed at great cost.

They attempt to overthrow our world, destroy our homes, kill our loved ones. Can we retreat?"

In the cold wind, Di Berrio's booming voice delivered the pre-battle declaration to every soldier's ears.

All the soldiers responded with a red-faced shout at the top of their lungs.

"Fight to the death!" "Fight to the death!"

"Very well, you are all excellent. We have stood firm against the demon assaults for hundreds of years, and even in the end, we can hold the line, keeping the demons' ambitions firmly outside the walls. Victory!"

"Victory!" "Victory!"

As the pre-battle rally ended, all the soldiers grew tense, awaiting the demons' raid.

Kane and his group stood on a corner of the wall, while Cotton Candy floated high in the air, carrying Meizike's Eye of Magic Power.

Soon, the ground began to tremble, with billowing dust clouds appearing on the horizon.

Accompanying this were deafening roars, and even from kilometers away, Kane and his group could feel the bloodlust in those roars.

Using the Eye of Magic Power on Cotton Candy, Meizike was the first to detect the numbers and strength of the demon army.

Upon seeing the numbers of demons in the legion, Meizike's usually calm expression changed.

Seeing this, Kane hurriedly asked, "What's wrong, Meizike? Has something unexpected happened?"

To see his expression change like that was never a good thing; Kane's heart couldn't help but sink.

Uncharacteristically, Meizike began to quickly and extensively describe what he had seen.

"Many, there are many demons, several times more than all the demons we've killed to this day combined, and more keep coming from the rear."

Hearing Meizike's words, everyone furrowed their brows, their expressions turning grave.

An unexpected situation arose, and at the worst possible time.

No, there are too many issues.

According to Finaris's words, their past contentions were always centered around that one sealing location.

If the demons occupied the sealing point, they could almost declare victory; if the humans managed to restore the seal, they could almost declare victory for their side.

But now, regardless of victory declarations, the seal had been repaired.

Yet as Finaris said, the situation seemed as though demons had occupied it, far exceeding the limit of human defense capabilities.

According to Meizike, more demons were constantly arriving from the rear.

Kane flashed over to the other side of the wall where the church's team was stationed, appearing directly next to Finaris.

The Holy Knights by his side, seeing someone suddenly appear, drew their swords instantly, lowering them only upon recognizing Kane.

Seeing Kane's grave expression, Finaris realized something was wrong, convinced that something unexpected had indeed happened.

"What happened? Did something go wrong?"

"Yes," Kane nodded, then shared the information they had gathered with Finaris.

Listening to Kane, Finaris was incredulous: "Impossible, I clearly repaired the broken sealing point, how could there still be so many demons appearing?"

She thought for a moment, then slammed her scepter onto the ground in frustration.

Her eyes turned emerald green as she surveyed the sky, then turned her gaze to the ground.

"It's over, another seal has a breach, and it's in a place I don't know. Demons have constructed a ritual on it, continuously summoning more demons. If they aren't stopped, we have almost no hope of victory."

They were now trapped in a vicious cycle; to win, they must quickly reach the breached seal location, destroy the ritual, fixing it didn't matter—interrupting the ritual array was crucial.

But to interrupt the ritual, they must know where the breach is, and right now, nobody knows.

Thus, this victory inevitably moves towards defeat.

And beneath the fortress, in the vast trap zones ahead, the swiftest Skin-Stripping Monsters had charged forward, paving paths with their bodies for the comrades behind them.

"Release!"

On the commander's orders, catapults and bed crossbows launched their ammunition into the demon legion's formations.

"Release!"

With another command, archers volleyed their arrows into the distance.

The battle had officially begun.

Just then, Di Berrio approached Kane and his group's position.

"What's going on? You both look serious."

Faced with the veteran general, Kane had no choice but to share the information he had.

After hearing everything, Di Berrio's face twisted, but he didn't show despair; instead, he placed his hands on Kane's shoulders.

"Can you do it? Can your team destroy the location where the demon ritual is taking place?"

"Yes."

Upon hearing Kane's answer, Finaris looked at him with surprise. Was this the time to lie?

They didn't even know where the breach was.

"That's good, then go and destroy it. Until then, we can surely defend the fortress."

With that, Di Berrio turned and left, his bearing steady and resilient.

Watching Di Berrio leave, Finaris quickly walked over, saying, "Is this a time for making promises? We don't even know where this breach is, how can we destroy the ritual?"

"I have a way. Just make sure the fortress doesn't fall before we return, can you?"

Seeing Kane's serious face, Finaris nodded.

With the answer, Kane turned to leave.

"Wait," Finaris removed an earring, tossing it to Kane, "Remember the promise you made."

Catching the earring, Kane placed it in his space equipment without questioning why it was given to him.

"Of course, the vow has already been set. I will do my utmost to fulfill it."

With a flash, he disappeared from sight.
