On a plain.
Countless Skin-Stripping Monsters roamed here, occasionally seeing a few Demons walking around out of boredom.
In the center of the plain, there was a large camp.
This was the large camp of the Demon Legion.
In the center of the camp, a pitch-black floating platform hovered quietly in mid-air.
On the floating platform, the Commander of the Demons, Bartos, lazily leaned on the central throne, his head slightly tilted to one side.
Upon closer proximity, one could even hear his faint snores.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes in the midst of his slumber and immediately adjusted his posture.
One elbow rested on the chair's armrest, his palm propping up his head, tilting, as his eerie square pupils stared into the distance.
The Hellhound beside the throne seemed to sense something too, straightening its curled body, its three heads staring forward.
A Winged Demon was seen in the distant sky, flapping its wings rapidly, flying toward the throne.
Perhaps flying too fast, it clipped its wings, suddenly losing balance in the air, crashing onto the floating platform.
With the impact of the crash, it slid toward the Demon Commander.
Bartos rolled his eyes, propping his head, and lifted his foot to stop the sliding Winged Demon's head in front of him.
The Winged Demon quickly got up after stopping, standing straight, bowing continuously in apology to the Demon Commander.
Watching this, Bartos waved his hand in boredom, "Alright, enough, just tell me what's going on?"
Hearing his words, the Winged Demon remembered the matter he needed to report.
He hurriedly lowered his head and said mysteriously, "Master Bartos, I discovered a breach in the seal, and the Commander's power is dispersing from inside."
After delivering the message, he glanced sideways at Bartos' expression, gauging his mood.
Bartos appeared calm, almost helpless, leisurely answering, "Since you've found it, go ahead and handle it. I trust your ability, Kulers."
Why isn't he shocked? Kuros felt puzzled but was drawn in by Bartos' answer.
"But Master Bartos, that location has been occupied by that group of little gold men."
Upon Kuros's words, the Demon Commander showed interest, "Oh? Tell me about it."
Kuros then recounted how he discovered the location and how it was subsequently occupied by Kane and his group, in detail.
After hearing Kuros' report, the Demon Commander didn't immediately respond, instead pondering carefully, finally asking suddenly.
"Did you happen to see the Saintess from the church?"
Though not sure why Master Bartos would ask this question, Kuros reported truthfully, "Answering my Lord, the Saintess is traveling with them."
Ah, so that glowing bitch is meddling; fine, I'll give her some face.
Bartos couldn't help thinking of himself.
In the Abyss, he was one of the few wise Demons, possessing profound magic knowledge and skills.
With such abilities, he rose step by step to become a high-ranking Demon.
He received a request from the Demon Lord to go to a certain world to release his subordinates.
Upon reaching that world, he merely wanted to quickly break the seal and take the Commander to the Abyss.
Unexpectedly, the natives of that world reacted as if seeing a sworn enemy upon spotting him.
This was Bartos' first venture out of the Abyss, lacking a direct understanding of the Demons' reputation across various planes.
Facing the hostility from these ants, he was displeased.
I'm a high-ranking Demon! Should I endure such grievances?
On the spot, he opened the Abyssal Teleportation Gate, launching an attack on this world with his demon subordinates, swearing to teach these ill-mannered ants a good lesson.
Who would have thought these ants would get stronger the more they fought, inexplicably obstructing his subordinates.
His subordinates' weaknesses and attack information were thoroughly understood by those humans.
As a wise Demon, he couldn't act as rashly as others.
Bartos began to investigate the reasons behind it and discovered that the sealed Demon Commander was causing trouble.
Surprisingly, he had no intention of breaking the seal to come out.
Through his extensive investigation, Bartos finally learned that the Demon Commander had escaped from the Demon Lord's grasp.
The Demon Lord wanted to bring him back, not out of the goodness of his heart, but to pull his head down for use as a chamber pot.
The Demon Commander knew well about his former superior's nature, causing chaos, attempting to thwart Bartos' actions.
I, Bartos, a wise Demon, calm, elegant, sensible.
With just a little stratagem, I easily subdued those humans, releasing the Demon Commander.
Who knew the world they were in would shatter at that moment.
Bartos swore it had nothing to do with him.
In a daze, he didn't know how long it took for him to finally regain his freedom, only to find he wasn't the first intelligent being freed in this fragment.
A mere ant had surpassed him.
Yet, in such fragments, trapped in this slice of history, no one could overpower another, thus remaining at peace.
As this world was devoured, unseen forces and characters appeared in their world.
The Abyssal Will that once influenced Bartos throughout his life gradually disappeared.
The fixed chaotic evil alignment slowly began to shift.
Bartos felt an unprecedented sense of freedom.
True, genuine freedom.
However, he wasn't satisfied for long, discovering he was still controlled by the will of this world.
Even a small moonbeam could influence him.
He had no ability to resist.
Thinking about this, he couldn't help but sigh.
Free, yet not entirely free.
"Master Bartos?"
Upon hearing Kulers' call in front of him, Bartos snapped back to reality, realizing he had fallen into memories again.
Looking at the Winged Demon before him, a sensation of displeasure arose.
"Go gather the Demons yourself and act accordingly."
After speaking, he pondered if that wasn't enough to vent his frustration.
"All these Demons are under your command now. The final battle and breaking of the Commander's seal task are yours to decide."
Hearing the Demon Commander's order, the Winged Demon's expression filled with extreme shock.
His voice carried disbelief, "Really?"
He immediately explained, "No, my wit is less than a tenth of my Lord's."
Bartos couldn't be bothered to argue, tossing over the Commander's Talisman directly.
The Winged Demon hurriedly caught the Talisman, shocked yet ceaselessly grateful, "Thank you, thank you, Master Bartos, for the opportunity."
Watching the still thanking Winged Demon, he directly lifted his leg and kicked him flying.
Watching the Winged Demon leave in the sky, Bartos lay contently on the throne.
Ah! How delightful!
