Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 214: Establishing the Objective

Kane walked slowly on the village's muddy road, thinking about that butcher shop he had just visited.

As a Hunter, Kane knew there was nothing wrong with those meats.

The problematic part was the smell of blood; it wasn't a fishy smell but a sweet metallic one, the smell of human blood.

Moreover, Kane's eyes had already seen it—a strong Magic Power reaction emanated from the Butcher, reaching the Silver level.

In the house behind him, there were two other identical Magic Power reactions.

This has confirmed the problem with this village entirely, but the question now is how serious the problem is.

As Kane was walking, he suddenly stopped a farmer carrying farming tools.

When Kane stopped him, the farmer visibly trembled, then asked shakily, "S-sir, what can I do for you?"

Patting him on the shoulder, Kane said, "It's nothing, just wanted to ask if there have been many people who have died in your village recently?"

Hearing Kane's question, the farmer's expression immediately changed, but he suppressed it and replied shakily.

"B-b-back, sir, last winter many people died of illness; it was during that time that a lot of people passed away."

Hearing the farmer's answer, Kane nodded and then patted him on the shoulder, saying, "That's all, thank you."

"No need, no need," the farmer quickly nodded and bowed. "As long as I can help, sir, it's all good."

Kane said nothing and walked away directly.

After wandering around the village for a while, he met up with Kreya and left the village.

Not far from the village, Kane and his companions gathered together.

Kane asked Meizike, "How about it? Did you see any problems with the village from above?"

Meizike nodded: "I saw six Magic Power reactions in the village, all of them Silver level."

"Kreya, what about you?"

"I just saw a farmer's wife holding a statue resembling a Demon; although she quickly hid it, I'm sure I didn't see it wrong."

Hearing Kreya's words, Kane nodded and then turned his head towards Lilulu.

"Lilulu sensed a lot of Malice from people; except for the children, Lilulu didn't find a single good person."

Hearing Lilulu's words, Kane couldn't help but frown.

That implies that the entire village harbors hostility toward Kane and his companions; it's almost certain that the villagers believe in Demons, and those who didn't believe might have been buried last winter.

"What do we do, Kane? Shall we just kill our way in?" Longbei asked from the side.

Although Kane was tempted to just massacre everyone and be done with it, there were still many things that hadn't been clarified.

Moreover, there were too many people in this village, and even though most of them were ordinary people, posing no threat to Kane and his companions.

But if they start massacring these civilians without notifying Sakrem, it could be explained, but it would certainly cause numerous problems.

And they still hadn't found any trace of the villagers who were taken away.

They could also use this news to lure out some traitors in the second defense line.

With this in mind, Kane said, "No rush; tonight, we'll do some reconnaissance and devise a plan once we understand the situation."

Then, they hid on a small hillside not far from the village.

When night fell, Kane had Cotton Candy take a Meizike's Eye of Magic Power and fly over the village.

Only to see those few Magic Power reaction people discovered during the day sneaking out.

It wasn't just those few; a few others hidden from Kane and his companions' notice also joined them.

They gathered in a small cabin.

Since they couldn't hear anything, they didn't know what was being discussed.

They could only observe their faces from above and remember them.

Soon, those people left the cabin one by one and returned to their respective homes.

At this time, Kane, clad in the Night Demon's Skin, disappeared into the Shadows, conducting reconnaissance around the village.

Since he didn't know if there were any Night Demons among the villagers, Kane didn't dare to go deep, only scouting carefully around the periphery.

Kane came to a house at the edge of the village, looking inside through a window.

The window was covered with a gray cloth.

A transparent rod gently lifted a corner of the cloth, allowing Kane to see inside.

The house was occupied by a couple, kneeling on the ground, a tiny black Demon statue in front of them.

Below the statue, a simple Rune was drawn with blood.

The farmer's wife rolled up her sleeves to reveal scars all over her arms and cut her skin with a small knife.

Scarlet blood trickled from the wound, dripping onto the Demon statue below.

The Rune beneath the statue began emitting a faint red glow.

Upon seeing the red glow, the couple immediately started chanting at the statue, faces full of devotion.

No wonder all the villagers wore long-sleeved clothing, even the farmers after laboring.

At the time, Kane wasn't puzzled by such a sight, as the weather hadn't been hot recently.

After witnessing such a scene, Kane lowered the curtain and checked around the other nearby houses.

Sure enough, in any house where someone was visible, the residents engaged in the same activities as the couple.

This had almost entirely confirmed that the entire village was worshipping the Demon.

With this intelligence, Kane melted back into the shadows and headed towards their hideout.

The hideout not far from the village.

Meizike was narrating what the Eye of Magic Power had observed to Kane, who had already informed them of what he saw.

"It seems today's actions alarmed these people a bit," Kane said after listening to Meizike's account.

Kreya thought for a moment and said, "We didn't do anything excessive today; it likely just raised their caution."

This reasoning made sense, but quick responses were still necessary.

Afterwards, Kane and his companions left the hideout.

However, they didn't immediately head towards the second defense line's fortress but went to find those patrolling soldiers.

Even though the front line's forces were stretched thin, the Volcano Fortress still dispatched soldiers to patrol the surrounding area.

After finding these soldiers, Kane used the Commander's badge given by Sakrem to temporarily alter their patrol routes.

These patrol routes had all been configured by Yoyo accordingly.

To ensure that the activities of the Poland Village were maximally restricted without raising suspicion.

After all, the adjustments were very minimal.
