Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 211 The Man Leaning Toward the Demon

On this quiet night, the members of the Kane Squad put on their usual casual attire.

Outside their stone house, Koblo had been waiting for quite some time; tonight, he was responsible for leading Kane and the others to the gathering site.

Under the sky with a half-red crescent moon, they arrived at the center of the fortress, beside a rather tall building, which seemed to be the residence of Commander Sakrem.

"This is it, Commander Cain, please go in."

Seeing Koblo standing still, Kane asked puzzledly, "Aren't you coming in with us?"

Kane had briefly understood that Koblo held a relatively important position under Sakrem, so it was unlikely that he wouldn't attend such a gathering.

To Kane's question, Koblo seemed somewhat surprised, then smiled and answered.

"I need to patrol various parts of the fortress with several captains since no one can predict whether the demons won't attack at this time, right?"

"That's true, I overthought it. I appreciate your hard work."

Listening to Koblo's words, Kane realized that was indeed necessary, acknowledging the error in his own thinking.

After bidding farewell to him, Kane led his team into the building before them.

A servant had been waiting at the door for quite some time, leading Kane and them into the banquet hall.

In the center of the hall stood a long, wide dining table, adorned with numerous delicious foods.

From this and the previous expressions of those refugees, it could be seen that the logistical supplies within the defense line were not lacking.

At this moment, both sides of the banquet table were already filled with many people, including the Saintess and several Holy Knights who were long-time companions of hers, as well as the female Knight Deputy Commander he had encountered before.

Many of the captains whom he had once saved were also among them.

Noticing Kane and his team's arrival, Sakrem, seated at the main position, immediately stood up and beckoned to them.

"Commander Cain has arrived, come over and sit."

The foremost four seats were reserved for Kane and his squad, showing them ample respect and acknowledgment.

Once Kane and his team were seated, almost everyone who came to the banquet was present.

Sakrem clapped his hands, and the servants standing behind each guest came forward, uncorking bottles and pouring a glass of wine for each of them.

Sakrem, seated at the main position, picked up his glass and raised it: "Let's toast to Commander Cain and his squad."

"To the Divine Gifted Warriors."

As Sakrem's voice fell, the others raised their glasses in turn.

"To the Divine Gifted Warriors."

After everyone drank their wine and set their glasses down, the servants behind them refilled their glasses.

Sakrem continued speaking: "I want to sincerely thank Commander Cain and his team here. If not for their arrival, our losses this time would have been disastrous, with the number of lost lives being something we couldn't bear to face."

Then he raised his glass again, speaking directly to Kane and his comrades: "Thank you for coming."

Kane and his team raised their glasses and clinked them with Sakrem's.

Finally, Sakrem raised his glass for the third time.

"To the courage of everyone present and the soldiers still patrolling and fighting around, I salute your bravery."

Once this glass was finished, he said, "Alright, now everyone, enjoy and drink to your heart's content."

As his words fell, everyone began to enjoy the evening's delicious food.

The people at the table ate while engaging in casual conversations, mostly about the demon attacks and movements during this time, as well as intelligence from various parts of the battlefield and defense line.

Kai Ren and the others took this rare opportunity to interact with these frontline individuals, constantly gathering intelligence regarding the dungeon.

This provided solid informational support for their upcoming actions.

And so, everyone began to enjoy an amiable and delightful chat over drinks.

Those captains and knights who had been rescued by Kane and his team would occasionally toast them in gratitude.

However, as soldiers, most of these people were still mindful of their alcohol consumption.

Of course, this didn't include Longbei.

However, to think that this amount of alcohol would get Longbei drunk would be underestimating him.

Due to the essential roles everyone held, the banquet didn't last long. After about two hours, everyone dispersed and returned to their respective teams.

Kane and his team, leaving the banquet, returned to their stone house.

They sat around the wooden table in the stone house's living room.

As night fell, the entire room became somewhat dim. Lilulu cast a light orb, making the living room bright as day.

At this moment, Kane rested his elbows on his knees, lost in thought, before suddenly asking Lilulu, "Did you notice anyone acting suspiciously?"

The initial intent of attending the banquet was to gather intelligence on the dungeon.

Moreover, previous dungeon reports had notably emphasized that many humans had defected to the demons' side.

So before attending the banquet, Kane had asked Lilulu to carefully sense if anyone among the attendees harbored abnormal inner feelings.

As the Spirit of Fairy Tales, Lilulu was extremely sensitive to human emotions and could easily discern whether a person's heart was kind.

This also allowed her to easily sense who harbored malice towards them.

Upon Kane's question, Lilulu waved her magic staff, projecting a human face in front of them.

It was a middle-aged robust man with a lush beard, his face marked by a very prominent scar, giving off a bold impression.

"Isn't this the same guy as before?" Looking at the person projected in front of him, Longbei immediately recognized him.

Because just at the banquet earlier, he had shared a drink with Longbei, having a hearty chat for quite some time.

Unexpectedly, this seemingly straightforward man harbored intense malice towards Kane and his team.

Staring at the visage before him, Kane said, "If I'm not mistaken, he is called Farid, right?"

This person was from one of the squads previously supported by Kane and his team, leaving a deep impression on Kane.

Because among the team he led, there were more civilians than Kane had seen in any other team, even more than in the Saintess's squad.

Due to the urgency at the time, Kane had only taken a quick note and hadn't found anything odd; in retrospect, it indeed aroused suspicion.

This individual was now on the watchlist, subject to close observation by Kane and his team.

"Who would've thought, this person turned out to be a traitor siding with the demons."

Prior to this, Longbei had thought this captain was a decent person.

"Well, it's good that we know he's problematic now. We'll keep a closer eye on him later to see if he slips up. It's late; let's rest first. We have things to do tomorrow."
