Chapter 124 Discovery (Request for Subscription and Monthly Ticket)

Four thirty in the afternoon.

After Luo Fei finished watching the last set of surveillance footage near Yongjiang Bridge from the day Zheng Bei was murdered, he already had an idea.

He stretched lazily and stood up from his chair.

With a stiff neck from sitting for so long, he said to the other three, "I'm going to report to Captain Zhao now, do any of you want to come along?"

The three who were struggling with the surveillance footage looked up sharply, meeting his calm expression, and all felt a jolt in their hearts!

Zhang Wei speculated incredulously, "Leader, don't tell me you've found something?"

Saying this, he already felt doubtful inside.

How is that possible!

"That's right."

Upon hearing this, the three of them were so shocked their mouths could fit an egg.

Finally, the three who couldn't believe it followed Luo Fei into Zhao Donglai's office.

"Luo Fei, are you...here with clues?"

"That's right, Captain Zhao, I reviewed all the surveillance videos and found a highly suspicious individual."

Zhao Donglai got excited.

"Quickly, who is it!"

"It's Old Wu, who works in the cafeteria."

Upon hearing this, Zhao Donglai didn't react much, but Zhang Wei exclaimed, "Impossible, Leader, you must be mistaken!"

Old Wu doesn't look like a murderer at all, does he?

It's no wonder he reacted so strongly; after all, Old Wu's disguise has indeed been deep enough to be convincing.

Even He Xin couldn't help but remind, "Leader, Old Wu is disabled, it would be challenging for him to kill someone and dismember them..."

"Old Wu's legs are just bad, but that doesn't mean he can't move normally. Plus, according to the autopsy results, the three victims were injected with a sedative-like drug before they died, so Old Wu is completely capable of committing the crime."

"But..."

"I understand you're all having difficulty believing this right now, but my suspicion isn't just a wild guess."

"Firstly, according to my investigation, Old Wu's daily travel patterns are very regular, but during the time frames of the three incidents, his whereabouts from six in the afternoon to six in the morning were not captured by surveillance."

"Moreover, on the last surveillance footage before Zheng Bei was murdered, it seemed Old Wu saw something, which made him change direction and head towards the riverside of Yongjiang Bridge."

"Now we boldly speculate that he perhaps saw not something else, but a familiar person, and he didn't guard against this person at all, so he walked over and was injected with anesthesia by the killer, eventually murdered."

They had all watched the surveillance footage before Zheng Bei was murdered.

The undeniable fact was that Luo Fei's deduction indeed made sense.

However, "This can't prove that Old Wu is the killer."

Facing He Xin's reasonable rebuttal, Luo Fei smiled slightly.

"It indeed can't prove, but I reviewed all surveillance around Yongjiang Bridge from six in the afternoon on July 10th to early morning on July 11th; guess what I found?"

As expected, everyone was intrigued by him, looking at him in unison, "What did you find?"

"After leaving work at six on that day, Old Wu passed by Yongjiang Bridge around six ten. Then he appeared at a surveillance junction south of the bridge, but his figure never appeared at several junctions afterward."

"And that surveillance junction is exactly the same as the one before Zheng Bei was murdered!"

"When his figure reappeared, it was already eight thirty the next morning. He was buying breakfast at the gate of their neighborhood, then heading to the cafeteria for work."

The few were dumbfounded.

If Luo Fei was right, Old Wu's suspicion was indeed substantial.

But what puzzled them was how Luo Fei thought to pay attention to this issue.

Both know that Old Wu left work at six in the afternoon, while Zheng Bei was killed at least between three and four in the morning, leaving a gap of at least nine hours.

Normally, investigations start from the victim's murder time and backtrack incrementally, only moving to earlier times once those yield no clues.

They initially focused on suspicious vehicles or people along the route.

Like Old Wu, who always passed this route going to and from work so early, one might only glance over such routine, ignoring whether he appeared at the next junction or not.

Otherwise, if they had to check every single passerby like this, it would take them a year to finish.

However, Luo Fei began checking from six in the afternoon, such targeted behavior made them feel as if he already knew Old Wu was the killer.

Zhao Donglai naturally felt the same.

He couldn't help asking, "Luo Fei, be honest with me, did you notice this person had issues from the start?"

He had long known Luo Fei had a sharp intuition when facing murderers.

Coupled with Luo Fei's significant interaction with Old Wu lately.

Originally a puzzle, thinking how he hadn't seen Luo Fei so proactive in the past, amazed that he had suspected the other long before.

This time, Luo Fei didn't hide anymore.

He nodded, "Indeed, the first time I saw this person, I felt something was off."

"What was off?"

During these days at the police team, Zhao Donglai also interacted with him, but aside from thinking him odd, he found nothing wrong?

"Doesn't Captain Zhao find Old Wu strange? He seems overly friendly to us police officers, this might be explained by his fondness for the police career; his weird smile might be explained as having been through trauma."
