Is… is Lin Daiyu for real? Is this some kind of sick joke? At LEVEL ONE?!Wu Chi’s brain was currently a dial-up modem trying to download a 4K movie. It was not going well. His legendary hero, the one with a single, boring, common-as-dirt skill, had just committed a massacre so efficient it would make a factory assembly line blush. All the while looking like she was practicing a serene form of murderous tai chi.Oh god, he thought, a cold sweat breaking out on his brow. I’m the sidekick. I'm the bumbling comic relief who owns the cool base. My entire purpose is to summon ridiculously overpowered anime girls and then get out of their way. (TL note: wow, milord...you know yourself well!!!)He finally managed to get his mouth working. “Nice work!” he squeaked, his voice cracking.“Young master, are you still struggling with the remaining riff-raff?” Lin Daiyu asked, her smile a perfect picture of gentle concern. It was the same tone one might use to ask if you needed help opening a stubborn jam jar. “Shall this humble one go and… tidy up for you?”“Uh, yeah! Go for it!” Wu Chi stammered, trying to regain some semblance of authority. “I want to… uh… observe your technique! For… tactical purposes!”He then dramatically opened his mouth and swallowed his sniper rifle, mostly to hide the fact that he was now acutely aware it was a peashooter in a world where Lin Daiyu existed.“As you wish, young master.”With a nod, Lin Daiyu simply stepped off the three-meter-high wall. She didn’t fall; she floated, landing on the ground as softly as a falling leaf. Then she moved. It wasn't running, it was more like she was teleporting in short, graceful bursts. The zombies didn't stand a chance. The poor, dumb creatures turned to lunge at her, only for her to already be behind them. Her delicate, pale hands were a complete blur. A gentle tap here, a light poke there.POP!A zombie’s head just… caved in. It was less of a punch and more of a lethal boop on the snoot.Golden Toad Stance! Heaven-Piercing Cannon! She flowed through the techniques with the grace of a ballerina and the impact force of a freight train. There was no struggle. No blood. The zombies would just crumble into neat piles of dust wherever she passed. It was so fast, so absurdly one-sided, that the ten Peppa pigs just stopped in the middle of their rampage, their heads cocked to the side. They let out a few confused oinks as the last of their undead chew toys were effortlessly disassembled before their very eyes.A moment later, it was over. Wu Chi just stared, his mouth agape, as the system notifications began to roll in.…PARTY'S OVER!TIME TO COUNT THE LOOT!…[Battle Settlement]: Enemies: 431x Level 6 Hoarfrost Rotting Corpses, 187x Level 8 Elite • Hoarfrost Rotting Corpses. Battle Result: Flawless Victory! Rating: S-Rank! Base Reward: 618 Void Essence Stones. S-Rank Bonus Reward: 300 Void Crystals, 300 Void Essence Stones, Skill Book [Frost Breath], Rare Class Change Certificate [Frost Archer], Territory Building [Frost Tower].…618 of them… Wu Chi thought, snapping out of his trance. The sheer number was sobering. But then his eyes fell on the loot. A Frost Archer certificate? Great. Because what I really need is someone who shoots pointy sticks when I have a woman who can kill things by looking at them funny. He shook his head. "Right. Upgrade time. If I can't be the strongest, my toys will be!" He stormed over to his base controls and went on a furious spending spree.Mash. Mash. Mash.…Void Essence Stones -200![Fireblast Tower] Level: 1→2!Function: Fireblast ⊛ Nоvеlιght ⊛ (Read the full story) (Level 2) (1 shot/10 sec).…Void Essence Stones -200![Fart Tower] Level: 1→2!Function: Weakening Stinky Fart (Level 2) (1 charge/sec)…Void Essence Stones -200![Earthvine Tower] Level: 1→2!Function: Summon Earthvines (Level 2).…Void Essence Stones -200![Crossbow Tower] Level: 1→2!Function: Piercing Bolts (Level 2).…With a series of comical THUNKS, all four towers shot up another three feet, glowing with newfound power.Lin Daiyu leaped back to his side. Seeing the transformed towers, she understood Wu Chi had upgraded them. An idea struck her."Young Master," she began softly, "perhaps... we should upgrade the Altar next?""With another sister here to protect you, this humble servant would feel much more at ease."The Altar—which included the Red Chamber—needed to be upgraded to allow for more hero slots. A Level 1 Altar could only sustain one hero. You could only summon a new one if the current hero died or was banished from the territory. Upgrading the Altar would grant additional hero slots and also raise the level cap for heroes."Upgrade the Red Chamber?" Wu Chi looked at Sister Lin, falling into thoughtful consideration.
