[Would you like to view the journal?]"Yes"[Day 57]UntitledI’m not losing my mind yet.Whether that’s fortunate or unfortunate has been on my mind nonstop since Day 55.Kirrung-Maybe the only reason I’m still sane in this sudden reality is that I can keep a journal like this. This game didn’t have a journal feature to begin with… I don’t know how it showed up.Probably something mixed into the “Mods” menu? That’s the only explanation that makes sense.Mods… right, Mods.Support functions I installed for convenience.WELCOME TO LA VIDA :)~Day 57~- Quests- Journal- Added Mods[Added Mods]+ Reader Mod+ /N_o_v_e_l_i_g_h_t/ Inven Plus (Loading…)+ More Form (Loading…)+ Far Sight+ Always 5 Star (Loading…)+ Infinite Stomach▶ More“Added Mods?”On Day 50, a choice I’d never seen before appeared in the system menu I’d been staring at blankly. It was as if the game was gently easing me into this new reality—this confirmation window I’d never unlocked before. At first I was bewildered. Even though it’s a game, I never expected functions like this to carry over intact. But soon curiosity overtook me, and I started exploring.“Kieeng?”Inside “Added Mods” were modes whose names alone gave away their purpose—practically cheat tools. Even for a solo game like La Vida Blue, this felt unfair to the NPCs.I couldn’t remember what kind of person I’d been in my past life, but I felt equal parts annoyance and gratitude for this perk.“Krrng…”It wasn’t just that every mod helped me survive. I hadn’t felt truly endangered anyway. It was more that something new had appeared. I could spend days tearing these mods apart! At last, I straightened up after hunching for so long. My limp tail flicked back to life. What does Reader Mod do? Inven Plus must expand inventory slots.Far Sight must explain why my view distance is absurdly far—like a Mongolian rider.Infinite Stomach… damn. No wonder I could stuff endless things inside me.Ah. My heart pounds. I laughed with delight, feeling the Kirrung-ing echo again. My tail waved, slicing through sand. For a moment, my mind felt clear.More Form is still loading—I’m so curious what that does. Can I paint my body in bright colors?Or, maybe… alter this monstrous form of mine…“Who the hell is this bastard?”Jin Muhae raised an eyebrow and accelerated the bike.Even as he followed the directions, he couldn’t stop wondering what the hell was going on.“Take a left by that hill. Beep-.”“Are you sure you know the way? Turning by that hill just loops us back.”“Yeah. Behind the hill there are rocks. That’s where we’ll stop.”Still, he didn’t change course—some inexplicable instinct guiding him. His heart kept fluttering. It felt like facing a fate you can’t understand. I felt exactly this way when my father died. And though it didn’t really matter, seeing Joo-o clutch my waist from the back seat—his fingers twitching—made me inexplicably happy. He never showed much emotion except when eating, but now he kept grinning so wide the dimples at his cheeks almost split.Whether he was happy I listened or just bullheaded enough to please himself… it was strange. Compared to the dazed wreck I first saw, he seemed more human now.“I see it.”“See what?”What a lunatic.“Almost there.”Even after Joo-o said that, they rode for minutes before a rocky hill faintly materialized ahead.“Huh,” Joo-o exhaled happily against my back. I scratched the back of my neck, feeling awkward. Are we really here? Or will he just stop anywhere? If the latter, I could scold myself for following blindly. But if the former, his directions were uncannily precise. How did someone who doesn’t even know where he lives know this path…?It might just be luck, but I needed to question Joo-o more.I assumed he was just a sick kid; this felt fishy.‘Come to think of it, the clothes he first wore belonged to a dead miner.’Useless mercenary gossip I’d picked up churned in my head. A civilian found naked in a crystal-blue zone…Kriiik-.Slowing the bike kicked up dry dust in my face.At the same time, Pop! Joo-o leapt off the still-moving bike.“You…!”He sprinted ahead like he’d sprout wings and crouched before a huge rock in seconds.I killed the engine and followed, and Joo-o raised an index finger.“Shh.”His red eyes were fixed on a crevice in the rock.“What are you doing?”“Lie down. Hold down to cloak.”Nonsense. But having spent a day together, Muhae recognized this code.He meant for me to crawl into that hole. “Here?” I asked, and Joo-o nodded earnestly. Before I could stop him, he slipped through the crack.“Hey!”I told him not to move, but he went ahead anyway. I reached out to grab him, but he was gone in an instant—no whoosh, just blink-and-you-miss-it speed.‘Should I just ditch him?’The fleeting sympathy I’d felt vanished entirely. I sighed and bent down.“Come out.”I called, half-pushing myself into the crack. Then a surprisingly spacious, comfortable grotto revealed itself behind the rocks. To pull him out, I’d have to crawl all the way in. What a pain.I wondered again if I should keep this kid until we find his family. In two days, he’d cost me more than I could afford. And if I kept him, I’d be feeding one more mouth.A mouth that could easily eat adult portions… thinking of the empty bowls of noodles he’d finished sent chills down my spine.“Huh?”My irritation and doubt swung to alertness at the end of the crack. On the jutting edge of rock was overly stiff, coarse fur.‘….’Bad feeling. I pinched the fur and rubbed it under my nose—faint musk hit me.No doubt a beast’s hair. A dark-colored one—probably a wolf.Grrrrr-.At that moment, a familiar animal growl echoed from nearby. I snapped fully alert and fumbled for my weapons.Damn. There must be a thorn wolf ahead. And Joo-o had already slipped past me.‘I told you to stay put.’My eyes hardened. I gripped my gun and peered out silently.Sure enough, beyond a central boulder I sensed movement. And behind that rock, Joo-o sat crouched, smiling brightly. He looked so pleased it made me want to laugh at him.“That’s a wolf.”Grrrrr-.‘Unbelievable.’Thorn wolves are crystal-blue–mutated predators on Earth. Relative to anomalies they’re low-level, but that’s only comparative.Outside the dome, civilians only go near herbivores like rabbits or deer. Even “Black Cattle”—a herbivore—is considered dangerous. Imagine a wolf.Thorn wolves are huge enough to swallow a human and have razor senses. If someone like Joo-o met one, he’d be dead in seconds. And now he’s chirping away. The wolf’s ears, already twitching at the noise, slammed the ground with its hind leg.Without thinking, Muhae burst out from the crack and charged at Joo-o.Bang!Clack, click! He shoved the grinning kid aside roughly and rolled out of the way.Immediately he drew his firearm, toggled off the safety, and aimed at the charging wolf.Taang! Zzzzz-.Bullets ripped into the beast’s flank.Kekeng-!With a crackle and the smell of singed fur, the electrified wolf stiffened in convulsions.Done. I’d bought time to rescue that nuisance.Only then did Muhae whip his head around—he wanted to see where Joo-o had run off to.“Damn…”But surprisingly, Joo-o hadn’t fled.Instead of running, he was already springing toward the wolf.
