“Oath prerequisite mission, metamorphosis, transcendence!”Any one of those words alone would be enough to make players fight tooth and nail for it.And now—such a chance lay right before Yang Yi.He only needed to offer part of his own flesh,or the lives of ten of his comrades,to complete the prerequisite quest for the Oath—and become a follower of the Mother of Myriad Limbs! What was there to hesitate about?Just cut off two legs! The Mother of Myriad Limbs might even reward him with four new ones in return!Double the blessing! What was there to think about?!……Such thoughts spun madly in Yang Yi’s mind. His sanity plummeted at the same time.[Strange whispering — Sanity -10][Strange whispering — Sanity -10]…Yang Yi raised his head—and saw that the stone statue had come alive. It had become an enormous, indescribably vast black spider.Eight legs. Its body and limbs were covered in thick bristles—but upon closer inspection, those “hairs” were actually limbs of countless creatures. From reptiles to mammals, from fish to birds, from insects to plants, even fungi were part of its grotesque anatomy.Yang Yi saw human arms and legs,an eagle’s wings,a lobster’s pincers,an octopus’s tentacles,a tiger’s claws,an elephant’s trunk, the fins of fish…Every kind of limb imaginable was present—and whenever he thought of one, his eyes would instantly find it.The phantom was like a living archive of flesh—a compendium that bore every limb ever conceived by life itself…Yang Yi’s head throbbed with dizziness and nausea. Then his gaze was drawn to the figure atop the spider’s head.It was a dignified girl—with six arms and four legs. Her first pair of arms was slightly longer, the other two pairs extending from her waist and abdomen. Her hands were crossed, her posture sacred and solemn. But her face—her face had no mouth or nose.Instead, it was covered with wandering eyes, rolling and shifting across her gelatinous face without pause…[You gazed upon the phantom of a Great Being — Sanity -100][Warning: Sanity below 10…]Yang Yi’s eyes burned like he was staring into the sun—no, even brighter than that.Tears streamed down his cheeks, turning faintly red.Yet he did not look away.Instead, he slowly raised his gun and aimed.Among the three choices of the Oath prerequisite mission,he chose the third.[3. Destroy the statue. The Mother of Myriad Limbs will withdraw her favor. “Spider’s Kiss” status removed. Hostility from spiders and spider-type abominations +100%.]“Sorry… but I, Yang Yi, have never believed in any god since I was a kid!”“And besides—you’re way too damn ugly!”Yang Yi glared at the phantom, eyes wide, hands trembling but gradually steadying on the trigger.[You gaze upon the phantom of a Great Being — Sanity -100][You gaze upon the phantom of a Great Being — Sanity -100]He ignored the warnings. All he focused on—was aiming. Then he pulled the trigger.Bang!Yang Yi had aimed for the spider’s head.He wasn’t confident of hitting the human figure, but hitting that massive spider head—that much was certain. The phantom vanished. The bullet struck the front of the giant oval boulder, blasting off a chunk. The humanoid stone atop it toppled down, shattering into pieces—its form of six arms and four legs unrecognizable.Dust filled the cavern as Yang Yi struggled to his feet.“Ptoo!”He spat a mouthful of blood. The recoil had flung him backward;he’d rolled several times before stopping.Luckily, he’d learned from last time—his tumble had absorbed the impact. His arm wasn’t dislocated, just scraped. But suddenly—Yang Yi realized his left field of vision was gone.Pitch black. At the same moment, the entire cavern trembled violently,as if an earthquake struck. The statue crumbled, breaking into countless pieces—as though it had lost the power that once held it together.Something was wrong. He hadn’t injured his eyes—so why was he blind?Yang Yi reached up to touch his left eye. What he felt was strange—soft, jelly-like.Three round lumps fused together, sticky and squirming slightly…“What… what the hell is this? Why is it on my face?!”A chill flooded through him.An indescribable terror surged from his heart. His limbs went numb. That thing—could not be his left eye.He immediately opened his activity log.[Warning: Sanity below 10 — You may be contaminated by the Abyss.]…[You have unlocked the Transcendent Path — “Contamination.” The Contamination Interface is now available.]Yang Yi instantly opened the new interface.Yang Yi — Contamination Level: 4%(A human body silhouette; the left eye is black.)Contaminated Part: Left EyeAberrant Organ: Three-Eye — grants three visual perspectives; allows perception of most unseen entities; Perception +2“‘Three-Eye’…?”Yang Yi didn’t have a mirror—and even if he did, he wouldn’t dare look.Just then, a private message came from Suna.“Yang Yi, are you dead? There’s an earthquake on the island! You’re not buried alive, are you?”After reading it, Yang Yi almost choked. This woman really had no filter! If she were sent to do rescue work, the people she’s saving might die of rage first.Who asks if someone’s dead?!And if he was, what was he supposed to reply—“Oh, sorry, yeah, I’m dead”?“I’m not dead!” Yang Yi replied irritably.“Good! I saw your sanity dropped to 1 point and thought you’d turned into a monster! If you’re fine, I’ll head over now!”Suna’s interruption eased the tension in his nerves a little.Suddenly, his left eye began to itch—like tiny needles pricking inside. Then, his left-side vision returned,as if his new eyes had just reconnected to his brain. But what he saw—was wrong. There was no color. The whole world had become flat and monochrome, yet unbelievably sharp. His left eye now provided three perspectives,as if three eyeballs were sharing information in perfect sync. The first was thermal vision—he could see heat. Now, even in the pitch-dark cavern, everything was clear as day.The second was magnification and zoom—like his eye had an internal microscope and telescope. He could see every strand of hair on a spider a hundred meters away, and judge distance with perfect accuracy. The third—exceptional motion tracking.Yang Yi tilted his head—dodging a strand of web shooting diagonally from behind. His left eye’s field of vision was unnaturally wide. The three eyeballs bulged slightly from the socket, rotating freely—even attacks from behind couldn’t escape its sight. But the two completely different visions—the left eye’s colorless clarity and the right eye’s normal view—clashed violently. His perception wavered. His head spun.It was like having a colorless world embedded inside a colored one—the dissonance unbearable.Better to just close his right eye.Only use the left. That felt… a bit better. His left eye, though—didn’t seem able to blink.Maybe it had no eyelid. But there was no time to care about that.Yang Yi turned—and looked behind him.The Spider Queen stood there, two front legs broken, slowly emerging from the tunnel.
