Kailen, who would have assumed the role of the anonymous captor, would warn Ethan's father that he had eyes and ears everywhere, and that if he didn't want his son to die, he should keep his mouth shut and stay away from Anaya's family.

The anonymous captor would even go as far as shamelessly telling the man to compensate Anaya's family for emotional damage, provide them with high end resources and quality of life, else his son dies.

Naturally, the plan worked perfectly, and the spineless old shit had no choice but to comply.

In order to make the plan extremely realistic, they chose to initiate it in one of the daunting regions of the academy, where Kailen, having used an elixir to change his face into that of a menacing man, was dragging " beaten and battered " Ethan towards a pit to bury him alive.

Kailen had also fed some sort of alchemical product to Ethan that made him extremely weak and look injured, as if he had been beaten and extremely battered. Of course, after the whole ploy, Kailen would feed him something like an antidote or whatever to return his demeanor and visage to normal.

There was a reason why Kailen had masked his identity. It was not the time to reveal himself to this man as his enemy.

Kailen wanted to take him by surprise. That way the man could not make any uncessary preparations that could make ending him prove somewhat of a hassle.

By the time he realised Kailen was his enemy, he'd be dead without making any preparations.

Kailen's mindset concerning making enemies had changed slightly now that he had the crown prince to worry about.

He didn't want to make too many enemies and waste his time focusing on getting rid of small fry he shouldn't be focusing on.

Of course, that didn't mean he'd be a pushover who'd sit back and let himself and his loved ones get bullied.

The point was that if there was a simple approach to get rid of his enemies as quietly as possible, he'd make use of that without giving the enemy any chance to retaliate or make preparations to get rid of him—simple, unpredictable and efficient.

For forces like the Arcane Empowerment Sect, The Harkers and Darkhavens, Kailen wanted to get rid of them in this manner.

The motive was to use the resources at his disposal to get rid of small fry as soon as possible.

He'd use the same poison methods he used to end Enna Harker to kill the society presidents during the society wars, so the populace and even the crown Prince may be able to subjectively infer that he's the one behind Enna's death, and that the poison he used for their deaths and that of Enna Harker is his signature Black Flask move.

However the methods he'd use to kill the others would be different from the " publicly known" signature Black Flask move.

If he used the same method he used to get rid of Enna Harker and the society presidents to get rid of the Darkhavens, the crown prince will figure he's the same Black Flask that killed them.

That's something he wanted to avoid, as he didn't want to leave any clues behind for the crown prince to notice that he's the one that killed them, as he wanted to kill them subtly without leaving any clues behind.

That way, the crown prince would then think a mysterious and different Black Flask ended the Darkhavens, and Kailen would not have to worry about the crown prince coming after him before he was ready to handle the crown prince.

In fact the method he'd use to kill the members of the Arcane Empowerment Sect, the Darkhavens and the Harkers would be so different that no one would dare think it was him.

It would be grounded in alchemy alright, but no one will be able to connect the dots.

The key right now was to end small fry as soon as possible, and being famous for it meant little to him.

Anyway, after the plan worked perfectly, Anaya spoke with her family members to ensure that the deal was sealed.

She told them not to worry about her, and ended the call.

As for Kailen, using the identity of the anonymous captor, he sent a picture of Ethan recovered, moving well and about to his father to not try anything stupid if he wanted his son to be well and about.

As for Ethan, he had decided to sit out on the society wars. With his father's networks, news had naturally gotten to his father about the collaboration between the society leaders to get rid of Kailen. Ethan however, didn't want to participate. Because if he did, he would definitely collaborate with Kailen, and that would make his father suspicious of him and think he's rebelling against him, and that would ruin Kailen's plans.

The best option was for his society to sit it out.

When his father questioned him angrily about it, he told the old man that he was too traumatized about the kidnapping to do anything, lest even fight against Kailen Darkhaven. And that he was too worried about the man using him to blackmail his father to do anything. The old man bought the timely excuse begrudgingly.

Ethan was sure that after Kailen brutalized the society presidents like he said he would, his father would stop pestering him about getting revenge on Kailen for his brother.

That would save him the stress of his father's suspicion and him being labeled rebellious by his father. That way, the plan will proceed smoothly.

Lian Yu and Anaya stared at Kailen with utmost gratitude.

They were about to thank him when he waved his hand casually.

" There's no need. Naturally you guys are my friends, it's what I should do."

Lian Yu couldn't help but get emotional as he spoke with utmost sincerity.

As for Anaya she couldn't help but feel extremely grateful to Kailen.

" You really are different from the Cold menace people paint you out to be."

She leapt into Kailen's arms and gave him a deep hug.

Kailen returned the hug after which he chuckled.

" I think if you keep hugging me, I'll become your boyfriend's rival in love or something."

Anaya playfully kneed him in the guts, after which Kailen feigned pain.

The society leaders laughed at the whole drama, however they couldn't agree with Anaya more.

Kailen had a warm side to him, inasmuch as he was equally ruthless to those who crossed him.

Miranda stared at Kailen with a complicated gaze, one that Pan, who was recently spending several moments the group gathered staring at her, didn't fail to notice.

He sighed inwardly.

" I'm really an idiot. Thinking she'd even look at me."
