Reborn With a Magic System

Chapter 304 – The Fight Part 2

"Potions?" Damion repeated, slightly confused.

After a moment he realized what Justiciar Straus was referring to. During his interrogation from the incident in the labyrinth Justiciar Straus had become somewhat obsessed over the Healing Potion Damion used to save Mage Blythe.

"Potions of that quality don't grow on trees," Damion told him. "Even if I told you where the store was that I bought it from, you don't have the qualifications to shop there."

"I am an A Rank knight. And you were able to get acquire that potion as a C Rank. I think I have enough 'qualifications'."

"Nope. Not even close. But now that I know why you are here, and since I am sure your actions are not authorized by the Argentum council, I have no issue finishing you off."

"Finishing us off? Don't make me laugh. You might be able to harm me if you hit me with Frost Fire, but that is only if you can hit me with the attack."

As soon as Justiciar Straus finished speaking he swung his sword, and a powerful bolt of lightning shot out of it. Damion was able to easily dodge just by using Blink. When Damion disappeared from one place and reappeared a few meters away both knights were at a loss. Neither had seen him move, but somehow, he had moved faster than should be possible.

"Well, now I really have to pull out all the stops," Damion told them before casting Frost Fire again.

This time, he did not target either of the knights. He targeted the ground around them. Damion was certain Justiciar Straus would dodge or think of some countermeasure to avoid an attack sent to him or Victor. Instead, he decided to encircle them with the deadly spell and let it close in around them.

The moment Justiciar Straus saw what Damion was doing he became worried. Not for himself, but for the world. Frost Fire was a restricted spell because it was hard to control. If this young Ice mage was not careful, it was entirely possible the Frost Fire would grow too large and then no one would be able to counter it.

"Don't do this," Justiciar Straus pleaded. "You won't be able to control the Frost Fire if it gets much bigger!"

Damion frowned when he heard Justiciar Straus' words. As the Frost Fire grew, it was growing harder and harder to maintain his control of it. He recalled Mage Teft's warnings about the spell and decided to heed her and Straus' warnings. Focusing on the Frost Fire, Damion exerted all his will to force the mana to submit. After several seconds the magic fire subsided and then vanished. Just as the Frost Fire died out, he was hit with an attack that sent him flying.

Not wanting to waste a free shot, Justiciar Straus had waited until the moment the Frost Fire had died to launch an attack at Damion. Since he was sure the flying Ice mage could probably dodge attacks from his lightning attack sword, Straus decided to launch himself at the young mage.

Being completely focused on subduing the Frost Fire that had gotten dangerously close to getting out of control, Damion never saw Justiciar Straus coming. The A Rank knight had leapt and tackled the Ice mage in the air, trying to drag them both to the ground where Justiciar Straus would have the advantage.

Of course, that was easier said than done. Despite knocking Damion back when they collided, little else happened. The young mage was neither knocked out of the sky or badly injured. When their bodies collided, the Ice Sword flew backwards through the air, absorbing most of the impact and since Damion did not will his sword to fall, he maintained his altitude resulting in Justiciar Straus clinging onto him in the air.

As soon as Damion realized what was happening, he cast Icy Grasp on the A Rank knight. The Ice mana seeped through his attacker's armor and reached his flesh. As soon as Justiciar Straus realized what was happening he struggled to get free of Damion's grasp.

Even as a commander of the Justiciar Order, Straus was not able to obtain A Rank armor. Since his armor was only B Rank, Damion was able to overwhelm it with his B Rank magic power.

Since the A Rank knight wanted to break free, Damion released his grip and then quickly spun his Ice Sword in place. The force of the spin slung Justiciar Straus off and sent him flying through the air. When he hit the ground, the Justiciar was able to roll to his feet easily and turn to where Damion should have been, but the Ice mage was gone.

Looking around, Justiciar Straus located Damion, he was flying away and at first the A Rank knight thought he was fleeing, but it turned out he was running down Victor. When Straus had leapt at Damion, the C Rank knight had taken the opportunity to try and flee. Not wanting any witnesses, the Ice mage was hot on his trail.

Damion was easily able to overtake the C Rank knight and a single Ice Beam to his back dropped the knight to the ground.

"You murdering bastard! You killed all my men!"

Flying back toward the A Rank knight, Damion hovered in the air as he looked down at him.

"You abducted and injured my familiar. You laid a trap for me with the intent to force me to comply with your demands. The death of each of your men is on your head not mine. If you had minded your own business, none of this would have happened."

"I'm going to kill you!" Justiciar Straus raged swinging his sword and sending another bolt of lightning at Damion.

When the Ice mage casually disappeared and reappeared, Straus had a sudden understanding that the mage was not simply dodging, there was a spell at work. But no Ice spell he knew of could explain how he could dodge so fast. It was as if he was teleporting.

"Who are you? You can't be Damion Wells! He can't use Spatial magic," Straus said, as he began to piece the things together, but reached the wrong conclusion.

"I am Damion Wells, but no, I'm not going to explain myself to you."

Justiciar Straus launched another bolt of lightning from his sword. This time, instead of just teleporting back and forth with Blink, Damion moved to the ground, directly behind the knight and cast Ice Beam.

The A Rank knight barely had time to recognize he was being attacked before the force of the Ice Beam knocked him back a few meters. Ice had formed over his body, and he had to circulate his mana throughout his body to prevent the attack from freezing him completely. Lucky for him, he was an A Rank and even through Damion's magic potential far surpassed his own, the boy's magic power was still quite a bit lower than his and he was able to overcome it.

"That is an impressive attack. But it won't be enough to kill me."

"I think you are right, perhaps I should use Frost Fire again," Damion said and summoned a small amount of the deadly flame to the palm of his hand.

Despite what he said, Damion was not eager to use Frost Fire again. It had taken quite the toll on him mentally to put out the last bit of the magic fire and he was worried that if he did cast the spell again that he would not be able to control it.

"Frost Fire is deadly, but it is not so easily controlled. As long as I can evade the initial strike, I bet I can escape before you put the Frost Fire out."

Damion narrowed his eyes at Justiciar Straus' assessment of the situation. The knight was right. If he missed, it would be hard to put the Frost Fire out and keep the A Rank knight from escaping.

However, Frost Fire was not the only deadly spell Damion had in his arsenal. Turning off as many of his passive spells as he could, leaving only True Sight and Mana Absorption on, he began channeling mana into the tier 5 spell Spatial Domain. The spell cost him an astounding 1,500 mana to cast and 250 mana per second to keep up. This made it a spell that only S Ranks should be able to use freely, but Damion had the Magic System, and his mana recovery coupled with Mana Absorption, allowed him to keep the spell up for as long as he wanted.

Once Spatial Domain was cast, Justiciar Straus could feel the mana in the air change. Before the ambient mana was just there, moving freely between the two magic users, but all of a sudden all the mana in the air seemed to be aligned with Damion. The oppressiveness of the area weighed heavily on him, and he knew he would not last long in this field.

Justiciar Straus rushed at Damion his sword held high, coated with streaks of lightning. The young mage might be able to somehow dodge lightning bolts from the sword, but there was no way he could dodge at point blank range. Unfortunately, just as the A Rank knight arrived in front of Damion, the mage vanished and appeared behind him.

Justiciar Straus continued charging forward for a moment before he realized he had fallen into a trap. Where Damion had been standing before was a small black hole and as soon as Straus got close to it, the A Rank knight was sucked in, vanishing from Nerotath forever.
