Ruoshuang felt a glimmer of hope inside her, as Secretary Du appeared to be an upstanding gentleman. She hoped he could help her brother-in-law out of his predicament.
But deep down, what she really wished for was for Martial God to swoop in and wipe out those despicable villains in an instant. However, such thoughts were impractical.
At this very moment, Lin Hai was being pointed at by more than a dozen weapons, his hands tightly bound, with no one caring whether he felt pain or his blood circulation was impeded.
Director Zhu, along with Principal Qian, chuckled coldly.
"Teacher Wang, you are actually a good person. If you admit your mistake, come to my office tonight for a deep apology and reflection, I will consider forgiving you."
Director Zhu hadn't given up his vile intentions toward Wang Jingjing even at this point.
With a face full of sorrow and indignation, Wang Jingjing clenched her teeth and humiliatedly said: "Director Zhu, if I agree to your terms, would you let Brother Lin go?"
"Lin Hai? No!" Director Zhu shook his head but then seemed to have a thought and gave a glint of hope: "If you agree to come to my place tonight for a thought reeducation, I might consider letting Lin Hai suffer less, a few days of detention and then he'll be released."
"If you don't agree, hehe, the difference between administrative detention and criminal detention is that one can last up to fifteen days, and the other can be sentenced to fifteen years."
Director Zhu added.
"Teacher Wang, you must deeply understand and appreciate the leaders' pains. The organization actually cares about you, to protect you."
Principal Qian quickly spoke up, not wanting to miss such an excellent opportunity to kiss up.
Wang Jingjing looked at Principal Qian with disgust. Was this the same upright principal she once regarded with respect? She had never imagined he could be so vile.
Now Principal Qian resembled an old madam sweet-talking and pushing her into a life of degeneracy, merely for his own career achievements and bootlicking.
"Principal Qian, I finally understand what kind of person you are," Wang Jingjing expressed her revulsion openly.
"Teacher Wang, don't agree to them; I'll be fine!" Lin Hai spoke up.
"Director Zhu, as you wish, I agree!"
"Teacher Wang, don't be rash!" Lin Hai urgently called out.
"Shut up!" Director Zhu pointed a weapon at Lin Hai's head, threatening fiercely.
Lin Hai stared back coldly: "Director Zhu, it gets dark and slippery at night; society is complex. Be careful, lest you offend someone one day and get hit by a car."
"Are you threatening me?" Director Zhu was livid, grinding his teeth. How dare a poor piece of trash like Lin Hai threaten him?
"I don't need to threaten anybody," Lin Hai retorted sarcastically.
"Hmph, all tough talk now, but we'll see if you can still be tough in the interrogation room," Director Zhu sneered continuously, his eyes ominously dark.
Just then, Ruoshuang arrived with Secretary Du.
"Right there, Secretary Du."
Ruoshuang whispered.
"Director Zhu, aren't you afraid of retribution?" Lin Hai glared at his adversary with icy eyes, wishing he could explode and take him down right there and then.
"Retribution? A piece of shit like you—what would you know, a disgraceful criminal!" Director Zhu snorted coldly.
"You're disrespecting the law."
"The law? Young man, the law is meant for people like you," Director Zhu said with a smug laugh.
"Is that so? I believe the law applies to everyone."
A voice, stern and cold, rang out.
"Which foolish prick dares to talk back while I'm speaking? Is he an accomplice of the criminal?" Director Zhu fumed with anger.
"Who said that? Come out, who dares to slander leadership!" Principal Qian's sycophantic nature burst forth instantly, with an expression full of indignation and hostility, he followed the voice and saw Secretary Du.
"Who are you? An accomplice? I knew there was more than one criminal." Principal Qian glared at Secretary Du, and after he finished speaking, he sycophantically said to Director Zhu: "Leader is wise indeed, knowing there were more than one criminal all along, those words just now were merely to buy time, to make the criminal reveal himself in impatience."
Director Zhu smiled proudly, involuntarily stroking his chin whiskers.
However, the moment his narrowed eyes clearly made out the newcomer's face, he was taken aback.
Immediately after, a name exploded in his mind like thunder from a clear sky.
Director Zhu's face turned paler than a sheet of toilet paper, trembling so hard that he plucked out his whiskers.
He didn't even care about the pain from plucking his whiskers, his chubby cheeks trembled fiercely, and his legs shook uncontrollably.
A quivering voice came out of Director Zhu's mouth: "Se... Secretary Du."
"Leader is wise..." Principal Qian subconsciously wanted to continue his flattery, but seeing his leader looking as if having seen a ghost and hearing the words "Secretary Du", he was completely flustered.
All the accompanying staff were shocked.
This was the top boss of the provincial committee!
Who would have thought he would appear here!
"Zhu Jiujie, such tremendous authority, such domineering behavior," Secretary Du coolly walked over.
Zhu Jiujie, which is Director Zhu's real name, was scared out of his wits, trying desperately to conjure a pleasing smile, he explained tremblingly: "Secretary Du, I was just joking, how come you are here?"
"What? Can't I come and see you throwing your weight around?" Secretary Du huffed coldly.
Secretary Du seemed very unhappy, and all the subordinates on site shuddered.
"Secretary Du is wholeheartedly devoted to the people, rushing to the site in the event of the fire, it is truly moving and worthy of admiration, he is a model for us to study, let's give a round of applause," Zhu Jiujie quickly changed the subject, feeling extremely guilty.
"I don't deserve such praise, not as promptly as Director Zhu here," Secretary Du said meaningfully, his gaze growing colder.
"Reporting to Secretary Du, as the head of the education department, I am wholeheartedly devoted to the people, to the school, and to the children. After the incident, we joined forces with the school authorities to actively carry out rescue operations and handled the fire promptly. Currently, there are no injuries or casualties, and the fire brigade is cooperating with us to fully engage in the firefighting efforts, please instruct us," Zhu Jiujie reported solemnly, and those unaware might actually be fooled by his act.
Secretary Du couldn't be bothered to spare Zhu Jiujie a glance, instead scrutinizing Lin Hai carefully, his façade calm but his heart filled with tremendous excitement: "It's indeed my savior! Not only did he save me on the plane last time, today he effectively saved my daughter. This debt of gratitude, it's immense."
Seeing Secretary Du looking at Lin Hai, Zhu Jiujie quickly stepped forward to make explanations: "This is the arsonist..."
Before he could finish his sentence.
Secretary Du personally approached Lin Hai and bowed deeply to him.
"This..."
Zhu Jiujie, all the staff present, Wei Shengjin, Wang Jingjing, Principal Qian, and Ruoshuang were all staring dumbfounded at this scene, unable to comprehend, disbelieving.
The top boss of the provincial committee was actually bowing to an ordinary Joe? What was going on?
"My benefactor, I have finally found you," Secretary Du said excitedly, grasping Lin Hai's hands.
"My benefactor?" The address resounded like thunder in the ears of those present, stirring a storm inside their hearts.
