Chapter 877 In High Spirits
Ling Ran exited the operating theater and washed his hands again. He then massaged his own neck and sat languidly in a chair in the rest area.
Chief Physician Li was sitting beside him in an equally lackadaisical manner.
He preferred to be involved in matters related to public health. However, as a chief physician from the General Surgery Department, he could not just sit idly by when there were surgeries that had to be performed. He did not mind operating on all the patients that Ling Ran did not want to operate on, anyway.
The General Surgery Department was the department that covered the most types of surgeries to begin with. In a place like Bazhaixiang, only orthopedic surgeries and general surgeries could be carried out. It was basically impossible to carry out more complicated and specialized surgeries such as surgery for brain trauma here. This was true even if the best neurosurgeon in the world was in Bazhaixiang, as the facilities here were limited. This kind of patient would have to be transferred to Yun Hua, or even Beijing, for a chance at life.
However, Chief Physician Li was not carrying out as many surgeries as Ling Ran, and the main reason that caused his fatigue was his advanced age.
Chief Physician Li sighed internally as he gazed at Ling Ran’s youthful complexion. He then said, “I heard that the repairs are completed, and the roads are usable already.”
“Huh? That’s great.” Ling Ran could not help but perk up. Now that the roads were usable, it would be easier for medical consumables and drugs to be transported to Bazhaixiang hospital branch. Even if a person were to disregard other things, Bazhaixiang hospital branch was almost running out of gauze as it was used in the operating theater every day.
“Do you plan to return to Yun Hua anytime soon?” Chief Physician Li asked probingly.
Ling Ran found this slightly curious. He asked, “Aren’t we on a rescue mission? The fact that the roads are now usable doesn’t mean that it’s time for us to leave, right?”
“Of course,” Chief Physician Li quickly said. He could not help but straighten up and say, “Do you plan to stay here until the rescue mission ends?”
To him, it was a very comfortable thing to have Ling Ran as part of the Bazhaixiang rescue mission. The worst thing that could happen to a person who was involved in public health was unsupportive leaders, society’s lack of understanding, and doctors’ reluctance to get involved, even though it was also reality that the leaders did not support them, society did not understand them, and doctors refused to work.
However, Chief Physician Li wanted to carry on with the project. If Ling Ran left, he would lose a powerful supporter.
Ling Ran never cared about this kind of complicated stuff. He said matter-of-factly. “I plan to operate on another bunch of patients before going back. I’m not in a hurry.”
He was on a Perfect Surgery mission, and up until now, he had only completed around thirty cases of perfect surgeries. In the beginning, he was only capable of achieving perfection in two or three surgeries every day. Even now, the numbers had only gone up to around three or four. It was never more than five. This meant that more than half of the surgeries he performed were not done perfectly. To Ling Ran, this was unacceptable.
This was imperfection!
Because of the circumstances, Ling Ran was not in a hurry to return to Yun Hua.
On one hand, it was because it was not yet time for the medical team from Yun Hua Hospital to leave. Aside from this, there was also a relationship between a surgeon and the operating theater as well as surgical facilities and equipment he was using, where the surgeon would perform well if he was familiar with these things.
The more familiar a surgeon was with an operating theater and all its aspects, the higher the probability of him carrying out a perfect surgery.
This was also the reason why Ling Ran had been able to perform more and more perfect surgeries every day.
Of course, this could also be attributed to the fact that his skills had leveled up. However, this was also correlated to the upgrade of instruments in his environment.
Ling Ran already possessed Master Level Hepatectomy, and it was extremely difficult for him to improve any further. He could only feel like he was going forward whenever he carried out a perfect surgery.
Hence, Ling Ran was naturally not in a rush to return to Yun Hua Hospital.
Chief Physician Li did not know what was on Ling Ran’s mind, but he was so happy that he flashed a bright smile. “That’s great. I plan to stay here for some time as well. We can continue to work together to improve the healthcare in Bazhaixiang.”
Ling Ran did not comment, but he did not mind working together with Chief Physician Li.
Both public health and infection control were extremely boring tasks. If it were not for Chief Physician Li’s presence, Ling Ran might have to spend some time carrying out these tasks. At least, he would need to allocate two or three assistants for this.
Ling Ran found it useful to have a chief physician who was willing to carry out tasks related to public health around. Moreover, Chief Physician Li was quite good at it.
“Since the roads are usable now, the problems with occupational exposure and lab work can be dealt with.” Ling Ran had always had a mind of his own. Since all the stars were aligned for him to carry out surgeries now, he was naturally thinking ahead.
Ling Ran did not care much that Bazhaixiang hospital branch was not where he was mainly based. He did not mind seeing the hospital branch as a subsidiary, either. He only cared about having access to patients and operating theaters, as these were all he needed to show his worth…
Chief Physician Li assumed that this was one of Ling Ran’s demands that was a prerequisite for him to work with Ling Ran. He did not seem surprised as he thought about it. “It’s easy to deal with the problem of lab work. I can find someone from Yun Hua Provincial Hospital. I know a good medical laboratory technician. He’s quite skilled.”
“It would be best if he can train a local to become a medical laboratory technician.” Xiang Xueming had been listening in to the conversation, and he immediately spoke out when he saw that they were talking about something crucial.
Chief Physician Li nodded as he looked at Ling Ran and said, “If we’re taking the problem of continuation into consideration, we’ll have to do more than train a medical laboratory technician. You guys will also need to buy some newer equipment, or the results wouldn’t be as fast and accurate.”
“Hospitals from all over the province are sending equipment over to us this time. We’ll try our best to keep some.” Compared to purchasing equipment, it was way simpler to get equipment from other hospitals. Xiang Xueming had his own opinions about this.
“I can ask Yun Hua Hospital to send some medical consumables over.” Ling Ran had started using color indicator undergloves in Yun Hua Hospital a long time ago. But in Bazhaixiang, he had no choice but to wear two layers of ordinary gloves during scheduled surgeries. Now that the roads were usable, not only would this problem be solved, but he would also be able to purchase more underpants so that he could change into a new pair of underpants before every surgery.
“Quick lab tests, better cooperation, and improved occupational exposure…” Chief Physician Li concluded their discussion after he heard what Ling Ran said. His eyes slowly lit up.
With so many areas of responsibilities, he would be able to get more projects.
After the conversation ended, Ling Ran rose and left.
Without being aware of what he was doing, Chief Physician Li rose and saw him off. When he watched Ling Ran leave the Operating Area, he could not help but laugh.
Ling Ran was not in a rush to return to the operating theater. Since the roads were usable now, he reckoned that things would get better in the operating theater soon. Not only would more blood bags and drugs be sent over, but he would also have more choice of patients.
Ling Ran sauntered around with his hands in his pockets. He exited the hospital and watched the crowd, who were cheering, for a short while. He then followed the crowd to the center of the village.
Hurried footsteps rang out from behind him.
Soon, a pair of white sneakers appeared on the ground in front of Ling Ran.
“Are you going for a walk? Why don’t we go together?” Tian Qi’s smile was even more magnetic than those of the people in the crowd. In reality, the people who were cheering and walking around had slowed down, and they were also not as loud as before. All of them were looking at the center of the village.
Ling Ran flashed her an equally magnetic smile. He then rubbed his tummy and said, “I’m a bit hungry, let’s go and grab a bite.”
“Sure, we’re not as busy today, so we can purposely head out for good food,” Tian Qi said happily. It was as though she had forgotten that all of her meals and snacks lately were prepared by excellent chefs.
Ling Ran nodded slightly and walked beside Tian Qi. As he looked at the scenery and the person beside him, he could not help but to be in high spirits.
