The Mad Rat's Lab

Ex Ch 22 - Bringing you down to your non-existent knees

"Fufufu! Hahaha!"

The rat-headed humanoid laughs with his hands up in the air while releasing lightning. His shadow, reflected on the wall right behind him, perfectly encapsulates his madness.

"This time… This time! This time, I'll finally get rid of you! My plan is infallible, don't you all agree with me? Hahaha!"

Prostrated in front of him, the rows of deformed monstrosities silently agree, not daring to raise their heads towards their creator.

"Let's go, my faithfully loyal servants! It's time to get rid of that nuisance! Since I'm feeling generous, I'll give a free get-out-of-experiment ticket to the one who brings me its corpse."

The rat-headed humanoid leaves the room through a large, dark door. At first, the monsters calmly stand up and start following after him, but when they hear his last words, chaos ensues. The calmness suddenly breaks, and the monsters start pulling at each other to reach the front. They stomp on the smaller ones, bite, and tear at the neighbors. They even eat those small enough to fit inside their mouths.

The monsters are ready to do all they can just to get that ticket.

Meanwhile, ignoring all the chaos behind him, the man's voice continues to come from the other side of the door. Only that this time, the noise makes it difficult to hear him.

"Nothing can stop us today! Victory is within our grasp! Fufufu! Hahaha!"

The camera turns black, and the scene changes. The laboratory is now gone, and a large cavern illuminated by countless glowing mushrooms takes its place. The man and all his minions are hiding behind the vegetation, scattered around.

They look ready for an ambush.

"Yes. Yes, stay quiet. I can feel it. It's close... It's almost here." The rat-headed man rubs his hands together. "Wait for my signal."

The tension grows as silence takes over. A few gulping sounds, coming from the most human-like creatures' throats, are heard here and there.

Frantically looking around, the man squints. His hand grabs the fur on the octopus-cat hybrid next to him so hard that it looks like he will tear all of it off. His tension is evident. The scene stays like this until the man suddenly stands up and starts shouting.

"There! It's there! Gogogogooooooo!"

In the direction of his finger, about a meter over the ground and not that far away from him, there's a small distortion in the air.

It's a clear sign of a creature distorting the light and camouflaging itself in plain sight.

Following the man's command, or maybe because they really want that get-out-of-experiment ticket, all the monsters rush forward at the same time. Like an avalanche, they raze anything in their path, leaving only death and destruction behind… most of which are their teammates' corpses, created by the friendly fire.

"It's the Death Butterfly! Get her!"

Light beams spell destruction to anything on its path; fire, ice, lightning, and all sorts of weapons and arrows fly through the air; teeth and claws strike at everything in reach… The monsters step on each other, ready to do anything if it gets them closer to their objective.

They're ready to do anything. Anything, to get their hands on that ticket.

Surrounded, the space distortion does its best to avoid the incoming attacks. It dances in the air, dodging all kinds of claws, weapons, and projectiles alike…

…Which then proceed with their trajectories, landing on their allies. Are those attacks a failure, or intentional, to eliminate the competence? It could be either way.

With the mad rat-headed man's laughter in the background, the chaos continues and grows in intensity as time goes on, until one of the monsters steps on and kills the wrong target.

*Booom! Boom, boom, boooooom!*

A series of chain explosions, caused by the weakest of the monster's deaths, engulf the whole battlefield. Colorful lights obstruct everyone's vision as painful cries fill the air.

When the dust settles, carnage awaits. Most monsters are dead, and those that aren't are agonizing on the ground.

The maddened human, who didn't approach the air distortion, steps forward with an unsteady gait.

"Is it… over?" He observes the corpses of his most successful creations, strewn on the ground. "It must be… right?"

He carefully treads forward until he reaches the center of the catastrophe, where he suddenly drops to his knees.

"Fu… fufu. Haha…! Hahahahaha!" His laughter grows in intensity and madness. "Hahaha! I did it! I did it!"

Right in front of him, there's the corpse of a beautiful red-winged butterfly.

"I told you… I told you I'd bring you to your non-existent knees. I, Mad Rat, always keep my word… I said I'd defeat you, and I did! You, who dared defy my orders and attacked your creator instead of treating him like your god, like you should!"

He keeps gloating, not realizing that the groans of the surviving monsters are slowly disappearing.

"I won, and you're dead! Fufufu! Hahaha!"

Right when the last monster exhales its last breath, from all around the laughing rat-headed humanoid, something flies into the air.

Small distortions, floating a meter over the ground.

The man stops laughing. "N-no… this can't be…" He shakes his head, his hands pulling at his face's fur. "It's impossible! I… I created a single one of you! T-there can't be this many…! H-how did they reproduce!?"

He takes a step back in panic. All around him, the only thing he can see are the small distortions slowly approaching him.

"I can't die like this, I must escape…"

His eyes look around, searching for a way to escape the encirclement. As soon as he does, he dashes forward, not daring to look back.

"This isn't over. Do you hear me? This isn't over! I'll come back!"

The man runs forward, and the distortions in the air start chasing after him.

"I didn't want to use it, but… You've forced me! You'll regret forcing me to use my ultimate weapon. I'll bring you all to your non-existent knees, even if it's the last thing I do! I swear upon my name! Fufufu! Hahaha!"

Chased by the floating distortions in the air, the madman leaves the scene through the nearest tunnel.

Lightning courses through the cables, briefly illuminating the cramped laboratory.

"Hahaha…! It's almost done…"

A shadow appears on the wall, illuminated by the lighting. It's a humanoid with a weird head, its mouth wide open in a grotesque laugh.

"Aaand… go!"

Right then, lightning illuminates the scene once more, showing the shadow pulling on some kind of lever.

Then, rapidly growing in intensity, more electricity starts pouring from the cables on the ground and ceiling, as well as those hanging between the machines.

It all flows in the same direction, converging into a single place.

The light produced by it grows in intensity, too, and the shadow on the wall grows more defined. Elongated face, like a snout. Big ears. Claws instead of hands. This isn't a normal human.

"Rise, my creation! My ultimate weapon! Rise! It's time to settle a certain matter! Hahaha!"

The lightning continues to flow towards the operating table, until the light is so bright that everything turns white with a flash.

Darkness returns. The only sound that can be heard is the madman's laughter.

Slowly, lightning starts coursing through the cables once more, briefly illuminating the laboratory. At the same time, something starts moving next to the shadow. It rises from the operating table, prompting the weird-looking humanoid into another fit of laughter.

"Fufufu! Hahaha! It's alive! It's ALIVE! Hahaha!"

The camera fades out, and the scene switches to a dark tunnel, illuminated by a tenue purple light. A rat-headed humanoid walks proudly in front, followed by another human.

While the first one wears a grin on his face, the latter looks dull, stupid even.

"I'm hereee…!" The man says. "Didn't you want to get me? Are you going to waste this chance? Come on, come and try to get a piece of me, if you dare to! Hahaha!"

He makes obscene gestures, calling for something that isn't present.

"Or are you afraid, perhaps? Fufufu! Hahaha!"

Meanwhile, the human following him doesn't react, imperturbed.

As if angered by his taunting, several distortions in the air appear on the screen. They swarm towards the laughing madman.

"Yeah… Come! Come and regret your actions!" The man moves behind the human that was following him and kicks his butt. "And you, do your job properly!"

The contrast between how he treats all his other creations and this one is impossible to miss. It might have something to do with this one's appearance. This one is the first one that looks like a normal human, after all.

Like moths to a flame, the air distortions congregate around the immobile human, disappearing on touch.

"You fell for it, you dumb bugs! Hahaha!"

Bursting out laughing once again, the man waits for his ultimate weapon to do its job. Something red drops from the human, falling to the floor.

"Yes…! Yesyesyesyes! YEEEEEEES!"

One after the other, more red things fall from around the humanoid. They keep falling to the floor, creating a small mountain. They're the corpses of red-winged butterflies, all of them identical to each other.

After a few seconds since the last butterfly falls to the ground, the man starts looking around frantically, searching for any missing air distortion. He doesn't want to miss a single one.

When he's sure all the butterflies are dead, the rat-headed man starts jumping and dancing.

"I did it! I brought you down to your non-existent knees as I promised! I knew it... The best way to put out a fire is to start another, bigger one! Hahaha! To deal with a Death Butterfly, you just need to create a Death Human! Fufufu! Hahaha!"

He fully displays his madness through his hand movements and the saliva dripping from his mouth as he laughs.

But then, the human, who was standing still until now, slowly turns around. His eyes, locked on the rat-headed humanoid, start turning red.

He tilts his head, confused. "Huh? I didn't give any order…"

The human takes a step forward. The man instinctively takes a step back. This repeats two more times before the rat-headed humanoid opens his eyes wide.

"N-no. No way…! This can't be happening…"

The human, who didn't show any reaction so far, suddenly opens his mouth and roars. Immediately after, he starts running towards his creator.

Not wasting any time, the rat-headed humanoid scurries away at top speed, chased by the roaring human.

"N-nooooo! Not this agaaaaaaain!"

The closure to the first ever monster to appear in the 'It's Alive! It's Alive!' series, a recurrent monster throughout it, wasn't something completely unexpected. The fans who followed Andreu's videos expected it to end in a similar style. What they didn't know, though, was that the Death Butterfly's 'death' would lead to a new recurring monster in the series. A monster that, mysteriously, nobody would ever see in The Mad Rat's Lab.
