Re:Mimic [MONSTER MC LITRPG]

Chapter 78: Adjustments.

"Mother, we need to talk about Lucas."

Katlyn's beautiful face lit up with a smile, and her soothing voice beamed from the communicator.

{Good day to you too, my Veliris. How are you doing?}

Evélyne paused for a moment, her mother's gaze seeming to melt hers a bit.

"…I am doing well, Mother. Thank you for asking."

Katlyn nodded. "You were saying something about Lucas?"

"Yes… our relationship… how can I improve upon it?"

Seeing the uncertainty in her daughter's gaze, Katlyn's expression dropped a bit.

'This is normal. I need to let her figure it out on her own.'

She chose to keep silent as Evélyne worked out her emotions. After a few moments, Evélyne spoke once more.

"Sasha said I should try being friends with him, but isn't that what I have been doing all this time? We spend every day together and learn from each other, so why doesn't he see my sincerity?" Her voice grew louder as she spoke more to herself than to Katlyn.

This "outburst" caused Katlyn to raise her brows, but she kept silent, letting Evélyne calm down before she asked, {Have you tried speaking to him about your relationship?}

Evélyne shook her head. "No… but I asked him if he hates me. He chose not to answer."

Evélyne's expression then shifted subtly. "The pact… it's hurting him. I don't know why, but Sasha has told me it does. I don't know what to do about it."

Katlyn listened quietly before she sighed.

{…Have you considered canceling the pact?}

Evélyne's eyes widened slightly. "Would you be okay with that?"

Katlyn gave her a weak smile. {I know you made sure the conditions would be slightly in your favor so that I wouldn't have to step in, my Veliris. I also know living at the manor all this time has isolated you greatly… You can lift the pact with Lucas. But under a few conditions…}

Katlyn sighed as Evélyne dropped the call.

'Seems I have failed you once more, Evélyne…'

Leaning back in her seat, the holograms around her dispersed as she was lost in thought. After a full minute, her shadow writhed. A baritone voice beamed into her mind. It was Nyaar, her shadow ward.

/What troubles you, my Queen?/

"Evélyne is growing up…"

The next morning…

Back with Lucas, he sat in his personal meditation room. The interior was a bland gray, though it was quite spacious. He sat in the lotus position, his hands forming a circle. At the center of his hands sat a translucent sphere of energy which pulsed rhythmically.

Thud… Thud… Thud…

Each muted thud rang out from Lucas's chest with the beats of his heart, the energy in his grasp shifting the air around him. His loose garments shifted with every beat. As this process went on, a visible yet translucent wave was emitted from Lucas's stationary form. It surged through the room, bouncing off the surroundings and back to him. Each following pulse carried just a bit more energy than the last.

'My range of control has increased since my fight with Frant… seems letting loose helped out. As for the heat issue… from what I understood initially, high temperatures are just an effect of microscopic particles carrying high kinetic energies. But here, things work a little differently?' he asked himself as he gathered his thoughts on the book he had read.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

'The Trinity of Flow principle they have here says kinetic energy functions based on three components: a source, a channel, and a sink. A source produces the kinetic energy, a channel directs and manipulates that energy, and a sink… expresses it… right. Why can't there just be a formula or something? Is everyone here allergic to precise details?'

He exhaled at this point as he thought through the information once more. This was no time to get frustrated. Taking a deep, steadying breath, he continued his stream of thoughts.

'From what I understand, the source here is just my Spirit energy, the channel is my Runes and Mind, and the sink is… me?'

He frowned. 'Wait, if that's how my overall kinetic energy works, then what "channels" the kinetic energy of the World?—'

He felt the ball of energy flicker unstably in his grasp. He refocused and maintained it, thinking.

'Feces. I'm overthinking it. If I can tweak my kinetic pulses enough, I should be able to emulate the effect of Frant's [Heatwave]. The concept can just serve as a guide for now, until I understand it better.'

Confirming his path forward, the beats of his heart shifted as he reoriented his focus. The rhythmic thumping picked up dramatically as Lucas's internal processes overclocked, producing as much kinetic energy as he could from his resting state.

Thumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthump

His K.D Rune glowed brightly from his chest, the originally singular waves of power splitting into tens of smaller, vibrating, parallel units. As their vibrations picked up, Lucas's scaly skin flushed pink as steam rose from his form. The temperature of the room quickly rose, the air becoming hazy like a mirage on asphalt. It didn't take long for Lucas to feel like his insides were boiling over, the surrounding temperature so high he feared opening his eyes for fear of them drying up.

'That's enough. Now let's see if I can store it all…' he thought, as he began slowly retracting the kinetic energy. The K.D Rune glowed brighter and brighter as he drew the ambient energy back into it.

Fifteen minutes later, frost had built up around the room while Lucas glowed with a soft, rippling white light. Both his K.D Rune and Lightning Rune glowed brightly. But unlike before, there seemed to be a connection between them as their energies adjusted to one another.

'Huh? When did that happen?' Lucas could sense his Runes behaving strangely. It felt like the two had been connected somehow. 'Wiki, what's going on?'

Wiki's neutral voice calmly answered.

{Your mastery and comprehension of the world has increased and, given your unique nature, this is the result.}

'I somehow linked both Runes?'

{Yes.}

'What does that entail?' Lucas asked, crossing his fingers mentally.

{You do not have access to such knowledge.}

'Of course.' Lucas didn't bother to ask any more questions. Opening his eyes, he waved his right hand in front of his face. "Dang… I feel as light as a cloud. Too bad this takes so much time to build up."

He slowly stood up and closed his eyes once more. With a look of stark concentration, he began shadow-boxing. But instead of his usual evasive and counter-focused style, his style was much more aggressive. Unlike when he was copying Sasha, his moves were more uncaring, seeking to perform the most powerful strikes possible. As he performed move after move, his movements quickly became an exact copy of Frant's arrogant style.

When he had it down, his speed picked up explosively. He performed dozens of strikes every moment, the sonic booms that usually followed such movements completely absent. His figure glowed brighter and brighter with each movement, the power and speed of his blows creating the energy of literal bombs.

A wide smile appeared on his face as he failed to notice his clothes burning away and his scales gaining a pink hue. Closing off with a big tail whip, Lucas pumped his fist in excitement.

"Void yeah!—"

Crack.

A loud crack could be heard from his chest and back. The scales which composed the K.D and Lightning Runes had fractured into gibberish.

"Intercourse!"

Lucas almost jumped out of his scales. With a frantic flex of his will, he wrangled the now-uncontrolled kinetic energy radiating from him. Audible rips could be heard as he stood perfectly still. His stance slowly shifted to a wide one, feet apart, right arm at his waist, left arm in a guard. With bloody teeth, he thought, 'This better not blow me up. Flash Fist!'

Craaakkkkk—Booooooom!!!

He performed the hypersonic strike toward the far wall, discharging all his stored-up kinetic energy with one blow. His bones groaned and cracked under the vicious strain as he was blown back by the impact, puking up blood as he was smashed out of the meditation room. He quickly came to and sat up.

"Bloody void…"

The detonation had blasted away more than half of his room and seemed to have broken into another student's room. With wide, blood-streaked eyes, he looked down at his fist to see a mangled mess. A very ugly smile appeared on his reptilian face.

'Yep. That's just how I roll, huh? I really hope I don't get expelled or something because of this—'

At this thought, he heard a sound from his shattered doorway. He turned to see a very put-together Prismari man standing there, his silver hair, slicked back, complementing his oppressively dark outfit. He looked around with a quiet gaze. After a few moments, he asked, "Are you Lucas Maverick?"

"Yeah?" Lucas responded, much more nonchalantly than he intended.

"Can you walk?"

Lucas looked down to see his legs, chest, and back were not in the best shape. His face twitched as he focused. Fighting through a mind-numbing headache, his [Leech] activated, and he rapidly healed his injuries. In a few moments, he stood up. Miraculously, the school armband had survived all that heat and morphed into a comfortable robe for him.

"Good. Now follow me."

'Intercourse.'
