Re:Mimic [MONSTER MC LITRPG]

Chapter 66: Farewell.

Looking around, they felt a presence from the ship trying to link with their Minds. It carried the familiar Will of Katlyn, so they let it sync with them. Lucas analyzed the connection for a few moments before asking,

"The ship, it's a domain?"

"Yes."

Evélyne responded curtly while Sasha looked around with wide eyes. They stood in a broad, open hall—far larger than the ship's exterior should've allowed. The floors were dark and smooth, etched with faint, glowing lines that pulsed gently. Light came from the ceiling in clean, even strips, casting the space in a soft glow.

Arched walls framed the room, curving upward in an almost organic way. Wide doorways led off in different directions, each marked by hovering symbols instead of signs or plaques.

Despite the hall's clean and practical layout, the sheer size made it feel strange, like it stretched a little too far, or rose a little too high. The air was cool and perfectly still, save for a low hum that pressed into their bones, steady and constant. Taking it all in, Lucas turned to his companions.

"So… who wants to explore with me?"

"We do!"

Sasha chimed while holding Evélyne's hand. Lucas smiled as he picked a direction and began to walk.

The trio stumbled throughout the ship. They walked through various rooms and facilities, most of which they couldn't identify even after staring for minutes.

One chamber was filled with holographic displays of celestial objects, slowly rotating around a glowing core that pulsed like a heartbeat. Another looked like a garden, but instead of plants, it held softly humming crystals sprouting from the curated shelves in rows.

As they walked through room after room, they finally made their way back to the hall they began in. It was almost as if the ship was guiding their movements. They found some seats and began talking about what they had just experienced when a crimson light flashed. Katlyn appeared with her usual calm poise.

"And, we are off. We can now safely get to the viewing hub."

The trio followed her in an orderly line. Thanks to the ship's strange spatial properties, it didn't take long to reach their destination. The viewing hub was unlike anything they'd seen. Its walls were transparent, giving them the illusion of stepping outside the ship as they looked out in awe. It felt surreal, almost dreamlike, as if the ship itself bent reality to offer them a perfect view.

"Dang… reading about it and seeing it is truly different."

Sasha and Evélyne shared the sentiment as they struck silent by the sheer beauty of the sight. The planet Veld floated below like a living jewel, its surface awash with vibrant colors that shifted subtly in swirling patterns, as if the world itself breathed with light.

Beyond it, the void of space stretched endlessly. Stars shimmered like scattered diamonds, and nebulae painted slow-moving clouds of violet, blue, and gold across the dark. The nearby crimson moon hung low, cratered and still, while distant satellites drifted in quiet arcs. But it was the sun that held their gaze most.

It pulsed, not with rays, but with waves of golden brilliance, like a beating heart suspended in space. Each pulse rolled outward, washing over the ship with a warmth that defied the vacuum. It cast long, dancing reflections across the interior, illuminating everything in a gentle, living glow.

None of them noticed when Katlyn quietly slipped away. The three just stood there, drinking in the sight.

Eventually, when the solar pulses grew too strong to comfortably bear, they turned away and stepped back into the ship's inner halls—changed, even if only slightly, by what they'd seen.

They quietly left for the central hall. Sitting on the comfy sofas, they sat in silence for quite a bit. After processing everything and still had no way of articulating the experience.

The nature silence eventually progressed into a conversation. They began discoursing what their first day would be like, well more like Lucas told them what school had been like for him.

"Going to school… was fun. Ironically, the learning part was quite dull."

Sasha tilted her head in confusion,

"Then what made school so fun, sir Lucas?"

Evélyne perked up as well drawing a small smile from Lucas,

"My friends."

He said simply. Even though he kept his smile, his eyes betrayed his inner turmoil. Sasha's face dropped slightly before she said.

"Don't worry sir Lucas, we will make a bunch of friends."

Lucas smiled warmly,

"Of course, Sasha."

"Lucas."

Evélyne suddenly spoke.

"Hmm?"

"I… I hope you can make some new friends as well."

Lucas raised a scaled eyebrow at that before smirking,

"I think you should make some new friends as well, princess."

Evélyne nodded seriously. Her solemnity earned a chuckle from both Sasha and Lucas. As she looked between them in confusion, Katlyn reappeared in a brief flicker of ruby light. Tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, she said,

"We should be touching down in a few minutes, but before that…"

She drew out the sentence as four items materialized in front of her. Two black cubes and two mirror-like devices.

As they hovered in front of her, it was clear to see they were eerie smooth. Almost like they curved into themselves. One of each item floated over to Sasha and Lucas. Gesturing at the cubes, she said,

"Those are storage devices. As you can guess, they are not normal and can be stored in your cores. I have placed some weapons, gadgets and other accessories in them to use as you see fit.

As for the other devices, they are communicators. To activate them, just inject your Will and Spirit energy into them. They should come in handy since you won't be together all the time."

With her explanation done, they both thanked her. She nodded before vanishing, her voice hung in the air.

"I have to go land the ship, children. Please don't leave the hall."

The trio sat in anticipatory silence as Katlyn landed the ship with no disturbance. Katlyn appeared once more with a soft flash of ruby light.

"Okay, we are here. Let's head to the exit."

They stepped out of the ship into a wide, open yard paved with pale stone and lined with low hedges. Awaiting them were two figures—a Prismari and a Beastkin—clearly instructors at the One-World Academy.

Both bore the academy's teacher emblem: a silver insignia shaped like a radiant sun with a sword and quill on top of it, stitched prominently over their left shoulders.

The Beastkin instructor wore loose, flowing garments dyed in warm earth tones, the fabric breathing easily in the open air. His sleeves were rolled back to the elbow, and his tunic was cinched at the waist with a simple belt.

In contrast, the Prismari teacher wore a more structured uniform. Dark, utilitarian clothing with reinforced seams. Their outfit had clean, efficient lines, almost military in its precision. Pouches and panels were integrated into the design, suggesting readiness for both theory and fieldwork.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries with the Queen and the trio, the two instructors led them toward one of the nearby buildings. As they walked, they explained that due to their status as special candidates, the trio would need to take a placement test.

"You see future students, we have to grade and categorize your capabilities before escorting you to your dorm rooms."

The Prismari woman said with a gentle smile. The muscular Beastkin added.

"Once you're ready for the analysis, just step outside this room. You will be delivered to your trial."

With that, he bowed to the Queen and took his leave along with the woman. When they finally left, the trio turned to Katlyn. Katlyn smiled softly as she said,

"You heard them children, I have to take my leave now."

She walked over to Evélyne and wrapped her in a tight hug which she reciprocated.

"I love you, my Veliris."

Katlyn whispered. Evélyne expressed her affection by hugging her mother tighter, reaching out her Mind to hers. After sharing a moment of intimate silence, they let go of each other.

Katlyn walked over to Sasha. Sasha already had teary eyes but she hastily tried to bow to avoid a direct eye contact. Katlyn caught her by placing a hand on her shoulder as she said,

"That's not necessary, Sasha. I hope you enjoy your stay in the academy and learn to loosen up some more."

She petted her a few times with a motherly smile. Sasha nodded as firmly as she could while receiving head pats. After she was done, Katlyn finally moved over to Lucas. Lucas' reptile eyes locked with her ruby ones in a quiet moment.

"Thank you for your hospitality, Queen Katlyn. I… will make the most of this opportunity you have given me."

Katlyn's gaze softened as she placed a hand on Lucas' shoulder, only to calmly retracted it when she felt him shudder slightly.

"You're welcome, Lucas. As I said before, it's my duty given you are part of my household..."

She trailed off slightly before finally saying,

"…I apologize for my earlier hostility. It was unnecessary."

Evélyne's gaze hardened at this while Sasha walked over to her and held her hand. Lucas felt a little awkward as he hastily tried to lighten the mood, the pact kicking back slightly.

"It's fine, Queen Katlyn. You just wanted to make sure I didn't do anything stupid. And to be frank, I am prone to such things."

Katlyn smiled as she said,

"Thank you for your understanding. I should take my leave now. You all have a test to take."

She vanished with a streak of crimson light for a final time, her voice hanging in the air,

"Contact me if you need any Evélyne."

With her finally gone, Lucas exhaled deeply,

'I really have to learn to relax around her…'

The two women walked over to Lucas and Evélyne calmly asked,

"Why didn't you tell me she pressured you into something?"

Lucas felt the traceless binds around his core tighten as he gave a pleading look to Sasha. The Beastkin avoided eye contact as her tail wrapped around her mistress's waist. With a sigh, Lucas explained,

"It was not a big deal… she just asked me not to hurt you and not do anything that would make you unhappy."

The pact loosened but still chafed at him so he continued,

"She just did so in a rather… aggressive way."

Evélyne's hard gaze finally softened as she said,

"Next time, tell me. I… I want to be your friend Lucas. I don't want a puppet."

Lucas' eyes shrunk at this but he swallowed the words that came to his mind. Sasha caught this but said nothing. After a few moments of silence Sasha spoke up.

"So… who wants to go first?"

Lucas exhaled deeply.

'Be free.'

A smirk appeared on his face as he asked,

"Rock, Paper, scissors?"

Sasha nodded with a grin while Evélyne hmmed,

"Rock… paper… scissors!"

First throw—three rocks.

A brief silence passed, followed by a round of light laughter.

"Again."

"Rock… paper… scissors!"

Second throw—three papers.

Another draw. Sasha giggled, and even Evélyne's lips curled upward slightly.

"One more time."

Lucas declared, smirking with renewed determination.

"Rock… paper… scissors!"

Lucas threw paper.

Evélyne went with rock.

Sasha hesitated a moment too long and instinctively mimicked Evélyne's rock.

Lucas chuckled, his eyes glinting with triumph,

"Lucas Maverick wins the day yet again."

Evélyne shook her head with a calm smile while Sasha pouted. Lucas calmly strolled out the door with his tail, whipping in S-shaped patterns behind him. The two women watched his back calmly as he headed into the test.

'I can do this, I just have to endure for now. There has to be a way out of this pact.'

The door closed behind him as he stepped out, ready to face whatever challenge laid ahead.
