Chapter 244: Ethan: Let There Be Light

Ethan stared at the text on the book for a long time to ensure he didn't read it wrong.

This line of error code almost sent him straight back to Earth, reminding him of the days when he was eating hot pot and singing songs, only to turn on his computer to relax, but he had to become a computer repair expert due to unexpected mysterious codes.

He had prepared himself mentally for Sincaro's inner monologue, yet he never expected such a string of code to appear in this book. He felt it should have nothing to do with Sincaro's inner thoughts unless the Master of Demons was some kind of AI.

"What does this mean?"

Ethan asked.

The green-haired girl shook her head, "I don't know."

She closed the book, her breathing becoming increasingly rapid. After placing the initial book back on the shelf, she leaned against the bookshelf and sat on the ground, curling her petite body into a ball, and buried her face in her arms in a listless manner.

Ethan copied her gesture, sitting beside her.

"Let's call it a day."

The green-haired girl nodded slightly, relaxing as she quietly rested her head on Ethan's shoulder.

The library fell silent once more, which helped Ethan think.

As a modern person, he obviously couldn't ignore the mysterious code in the book, contemplating his conversations with the Wind Elemental Elf.

He initially thought Sincaro had hidden most of his memories from them, covering up the experiences of the Old Gods before they descended to this world, but the Wind Elemental ELF insisted that this was all there is to Sincaro.

Assuming the Wind Elemental's judgment is correct...

Then, theoretically speaking, the Old Gods ought to have a more ancient history than the ancestors and this planet. When the creatures of this world first gazed upon the starry sky, they already existed in the vast universe, possessing the power to open the key to this world.

However, reality presents a paradox with the theory; deep within Sincaro's memory, there appears an error code that absolutely shouldn't exist.

Thinking of this, Ethan pulled up the skills proficiency panel, with the last message still lingering on:

"Wind Blade Skill (Battle Tank), proficiency: ∞, you've embarked on a path to freedom."

This was the only thing that could be considered a "goldfinger" after his crossing, aside from the four elements of escalation, he could also see skills like element cartography and fishing skill.

Ethan had always regarded this "goldfinger" as incompetent, unable to communicate, nor would it ever voluntarily provide him any guidance in skills, only giving a prompt in the panel after he learned a skill. Yet it accompanied him through the first two years in Ximu Town.

The ever-increasing proficiency of Fireball Skill at least reminded him that he was improving every day in this world.

Ethan kept checking the information on the skill proficiency panel. Actually, when he first got the "Fireball Skill" prompt, he had always felt it resembled a defective version of a game panel.

Ximu Town, the prophecy of the Old Gods' revival, many paths brought by the upright gods, he should be familiar with.

The reason it remained theoretical was because every time he delved deep, he couldn't quite remember where he read these settings.

He could only comfort himself, perhaps because he had played too many magical RPG adventure games, thus feeling a strong déjà vu for the similar world background, but now it seems that might not be the case.

For instance, there was another mystery he insisted he shouldn't have known—how he got to Ximu Town?

At this moment, Ethan finally realized.

Old Ba's list of suspects now had one more name added.

He initially thought it was the Wind Elemental or Lindong, possibly even himself, but one more thing met the "always by his side" description, the skill proficiency panel, which had never spoken a word, and its existence also very much matched Old Ba's description of "incomplete."

In this manner, the paradox between theory and reality could also be explained.

If Sincaro and the other Old Gods were settings from a game, it would be possible for them to have existed longer than the world itself, yet have no earlier memories, because those who wrote these settings didn't have time to complete all the background, or perhaps they never considered anyone would arrive here, facing Sincaro's heart directly.

According to this world's "rules," humans can't directly face the Old Gods, any attempt related to them would drive them mad.

And he, in a sense, encountered a BUG.

Gamers are often aware that the world beyond a BUG is like this; you might see unfinished models or environments with no rules to speak of, as it was never a place game developers thought players could reach.

They weren't supposed to understand the thoughts of the Old Gods, nor were they supposed to delve into their Memory Palace.

Combining with the prophecy of "Doomsday," Ethan speculated that the main storyline of this game should have been for all adventurers to join forces against the Evil God, with clear divisions among career and combat power tiers, roles like Pope Julius, his master Turzan, the Western Continent's giant octopus Aelium, and the Mage Tower's counterfeit Kadela were probably originally set to be raid bosses, requiring the united force of 40 adventurers and the cooperation of renowned NPCs to take them down.

Next, the world would pass down the tale of these NPCs joining hands with a group of unknown adventurers to conquer formidable foes.
