Star Hawk Rises

CHAPTER 62: SOLAR BARON!

The surrounding dwarves started laughing which instantly put me on the defence and out of the corner of my eye I noticed Jasmine snap her head around to stare directly at me. 'Craap!' I thought as she slowly turned her body around to face me as well. I focused on the dwarf in front of me as I tried to figure out what to do next. I decided to start with what was in front of me by declining the request to spend a small perk on construction equipment. I wanted to find out what they were currently working with and if it was better than what earth had, I was about to ask the former dwarven king if I could see it when I heard.

"Kimberly…" Jasmine slowly said as she took a step towards me.

I winced as I thought 'double crap' and slowly began to turn my head to look at her, I noticed the star hawks team had begun to shift into defensive positions near me. I was about to open my mouth to respond to her when my HUD exploded with messages, making me wince again as it blinded me.

"Alright everyone, pause" I said as I rushed to add filters to my HUD so the messages I was receiving could be filtered into ignore, important and family.

"No, I need you to explain to me right now how this dwarf just offered you his kingdom and suddenly the great Kenna Mackenzie suddenly conquers the entire planet at the same time!" I could hear her almost screeching in hysterics as she finished talking.

"Ooooh, we screwed the pooch" I whispered as I slowly turned to look at Zeo.

"What do you mean?" she asked as she slowly moved her rifle, getting ready in case Jasmine became an issue.

"Think about it, the former Planetary King is making a point by giving me his planet, the invasion is now my problem, and it puts the planet under the umbrella of the Mackenzie Clan indicating that the planet was never part of the Twiddles clan. We invaded an independent planet."

"Which the Galactic Federation is invading under false intel. That is a very big oops."

"As far as I can see it, there are two ways we can play this. We either fess up and people get demoted and court martialed and generally run through the ringer, and I become enemy number one for a lot of pissed off people."

"Or, we keep it a secret …and?" Zeo slowly asked.

"What are you going to do?" Brendan asked.

"Please be spectacularly amazing." Travis cheered.

I suddenly stood up as I looked at the dwarf in front of me and grinned at him before turning, nodding to Zeo and the boys before stopping as I faced Jasmine and her team. I then shifted through the store on my HUD until I found an app that could broadcast to every hud in the Solar System using secure military codes and installed it. After a few minutes of staring at a nervous yet excited Jasmine, a window popped up in front of me displaying my face. I could see Zeo standing on my right, Brendan and Travis lurking in the background with their rifles half raised.

"Greetings MWOA256! My name is Kenna Mackenzie. Recently, after I got all my drop-ships off my drop carrier and got them planet side, I was then asked to lead a black ops team on the surface, I was not given any orders."

I paused here to wink at Jasmine, whose mouth had fallen open and was staring at me in complete shock. I did notice Corwin roll his eyes, but he was still watching me hesitantly.

"On my way to where I am now, don't ask where, it's a secret, shh! I met some people, had some laughs, decided to kick back and vacation this tour in a remote city that was being completely ignored. Honestly, I figured I could have a nice time relaxing for a month."

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the dwarves had started bunching up around their king and were whispering to him as they showed him something on a glass tablet as they glanced up at me. The only reason I could think of was they were already planning out their equipment shopping list.

"You can imagine my surprise when I found out that there are no Twiddles Clansmen even on the planet, but I did find a Planetary King who was hiding here and was so panicked and scared by our invasion that he immediately requested refuge from the Twiddles Clans tyrannical rule and you terrifying lot. After a long conversation and a fair few threats, you know how dwarves are, I even had to promise to supply them with some booze from my home planet!"

I smiled and winked at the camera, trying to play to the audience's egos and get them on my side, or at least liking me a bit more.

"We came to a deal and I accepted their surrender of this entire planet, and it is now property of the Mackenzie Clan! Therefore, I kindly ask you all to get the hell off my planet before the Orbital Station Base and defence systems is constructed. Oh, but do stick around, part of the negotiation for the planet was the right to sell merchandise made by the dwarven kingdom that inhabits this planet! You know that stuff is going to be good."

I watched the dwarves turn to watch me having, I assume, finished their shopping list. Jasmine was practically vibrating out of her skin as she tried to hold herself back from bombarding me with questions. Lefty and Righty looked like they were playing with their HUD's while Corwin just stood next to Jasmine watching me.

"And finally, system, I hereby spend one medium perk and one small perk to purchase an Orbital Station Base and a Galactic Market Hub!" I declared and then ended the video to leave the rest of the Star System confused as to what I was about to do next, they didn't need to know anyway, I had finished my speech.

Congratulations! You have purchased your second Orbital Station Base, construction will be completed in seven days!

Congratulations! Because your guild owns two Orbital Station Bases, a Branch Guild has been formed for the Blossoming Terranova Guild!

Please Select the Guild Leader of your MWOA256 Blossoming Terranova Branch Guild.

My head instantly snapped around to the dwarf king, and a terribly evil idea slowly started forming in my mind. My hand slowly raised until I was pointing directly at him and whispered.

"I select you."

"What?" he asked in slight shock, a moment before his eye darted to his own HUD, then he started swearing… a lot.

Congratulations! The contract between yourself and Dwarven Merchant Planetary King Brasdrec Bonebane has been updated:

Supply or construct the Orbital Launch Systems and freight shuttles.

Supply advanced mining and excavation equipment.

Has been changed to:

Complete the construction of Orbital Station Base in MWOA256.

Hand over controlling power of MWOA256 Blossoming Terranova Orbital Station Base to Solar Tak Brasdrec Bonebane.

In exchange, Solar Tak Brasdrec Bonebane agrees to:

Supply MWOA254 Blossoming Terranova Guild with taxes collected from all sales and transactions aboard the MWOA256 Blossoming Terranova Orbital Station Base.

Become the Vassal of Solar Baron Kenna Mackenzie.

Do you accept these changes?

I grinned as I watched the dwarf in front of me and slowly nodded my head. "Yeaa, I accept that!" I then started laughing. It wasn't for a few more moments of laughter that it occurred to me the system had called me a Solar Baron instead of a Solar Tak.

"Eh? Wait a minute, that can't be… Status!"

Name: Kenna Rowan Mackenzie

Clan:

Mackenzie

Clan rank: Solar Baron

Military Rank: Flight Lieutenant

Military Position: Pending Review.

Galactic Credits: 106,761

Guild: Blossoming Terranova

Guild Position: Guild Mistress

Guild Level: 3

I stared at my status screen, feeling so confused, where had the extra money come from? How the hell did I become a solar baron? And most importantly, why the hell was my military position pending review? These three questions ran through my mind at lightning speed as I slowly turned to look at Zeo and the boys hoping for answers, but when Zeo shook her head slightly I dropped them and turned back to the dwarf.

"We have an agreement on the new deal, yes?" I asked.

I could see he was pissed, but he slowly extended his hand and said through gritted teeth.

"Yes, we have a deal, not that I have a choice."

"What do you mean you don't have a choice?"

"I mean, you used the system to trick me into becoming a guild vassal!" He growled before turning and stomping off down a tunnel.

I opened and closed my mouth. I tried to work out how I had done that exactly as I watched all the other dwarves follow him, only one remained smiling at me. I realised he was the one that had been holding the glass tablet.

"Don't worry too much, the real reason the Star System is listed as property of the Twiddles Clan is because we were in negotiations with them. We wanted to become a vassal so we wouldn't have to work so hard at keeping our claim protected. We wanted to rule this star system and be left alone to make our stuff and sell it as we pleased. And they would make sure our Star System was under their protection, and that would ensure no one tried to invade us. As you can see, that went swimmingly."

I nodded my head slowly, out the corner of my eye I could see Jasmine about to lose her mind if she held her excitement and questions in any longer. But Corwin seemed to be helping her hold steady with his hand on her shoulder.

"Instead, you got the Mackenzie clan, is that going to be a problem?"

"Nah, he will come around and start demanding that booze and assigning roles for the new branch guild we will have to run as soon as he calms down… oh, I have been assigned the Branch Ambassador position, well in that case I will get in touch with the headquarters ambassador and work out all the details that will need to be sorted between our two branches of the guild, then I will give my branches council a swift kick into gear. Don't worry, Guild Mistress, we will have our end sorted, and we will be up and running before you know it!" he declared before turning and following all the other dwarfs into the tunnel.

I smiled happily, but I still felt a little confused about how this had all come to be, but I decided to just go with the flow on this one and turned to look at Jasmine.

"Hello, Jasmine." I stated simply.

She let out an ear-splitting squeal, nearly jumped a foot in the air as she took a step towards me then passed out and fell to the ground landing on her face.

"What the?" I asked in surprise and confusion.

"It is hard to meet your heroes, but when they stand before you performing legendary badassery and living up to all your hope and dreams, it can be overwhelming." Corwin stated as he bent down and picked Jasmine up, cradling her in his arms.

He looked down at Jasmine for a few moments before glancing over his shoulder at his two friends, then he turned back to me and had a pained look on his face that slowly firmed into resolve.

"Kenna Mackenzie, you said that you would give us a building or two to generate income for us to live off of, however, it seems you have taken the entire solar system for yourself, I must humbly ask what will become of our deal? Are you going to leave us in debt due to the cost of an uplink pod that has lost its value due to the lack of an invasion, or will you help us like you said you would?"
