When Tang Yuanchu heard that, he quickly came up to them with a warm smile. “Miss Xie, we can go over together. Let’s go.”
The waitress looked at the two of them. “Both of you know each other?” She asked with a polite smile. “Sir, I may have to trouble you for showing the way to this lady.”
“I don’t know him!” Xie Wanwan pulled a long face, looking all frosty as she glanced at the waitress. “Where’s the room?”
Seeing that, the waitress pointed out the direction politely. “It’s all the way in on the left, the ‘Heavenly Chamber’.”
With that, Xie Wanwan strode away.
Tang Yuanchu shrugged his shoulders at that sight. He was not angry although he got snubbed. He was just a simple-minded and straightforward person who would not take such things to heart.
He quickly followed to catch up to Xie Wanwan.
“Miss Xie, today we’re having a gathering for our team. Did Captain Bai invite you?”
He directly asked her what he was thinking without reserve.
Xie Wanwan swept him a glance where she felt her eyes pricked by his smile and somehow, she looked as if she was about to flare up.
They were now outside the corridor of the ‘Heavenly Chamber’ where she suddenly halted her steps and shot Tang Yuanchu an icy glare. “Has it got anything to do with you?”
Tang Yuanchu was a little taken aback and replied softly. “It’s got nothing to do with me.”
Xie Wanwan raised her eyebrows. “Why are you asking so much then?”
Urgh! Tang Yuanchu felt that this woman’s attitude as though she had just eaten explosives—totally impossible to communicate. He did not really say much, so why was she in such an irritated mood and even flared up at him?
Something’s not quite right!
He suddenly realized something.
Is she here—to pick a fight because of jealousy? he thought.
Tang Yuanchu, who did watch some 10 exciting episodes of Legend of ZhenHuan 1 , immediately thought of the possible scenes the two women might do when fighting for his Captain’s favor. For the sake of the harmonious atmosphere that night, he couldn’t help but be a busybody once again.
“Miss Xie, you shouldn’t be so uncool!”
Xie Wanwan was about to leave the place when she heard that sentence. And she felt that every part of her was no good.
“Are we very familiar with each other? What has it got to do with you on what I want to do?”
“Of course, it’s got nothing to do with me. But I’m born a righteous man and I don’t like to see you behaving like this.”
Xie Wanwan was startled and found herself unable to leave like that.
She took two steps back and looked straight into Tang Yuanchu’s scornful gaze. “Tell me, what behavior do you not like to see?”
Seeing that Xie Wanwan asked him a serious question, Tang Yuanchu contemplated for a moment before answering her seriously. “Well, you’re such a beautiful woman, why do you want to make it so hard on yourself just to snatch another’s boyfriend?”
Xie Wanwan felt a suffocating feeling. “Who am I trying to snatch?”
Tang Yuanchu turned for a glance at the ‘Heavenly Chamber’ with a snort. “Don’t think that I can’t tell that you like Captain Bai.”
Xie Wanwan’s eyes formed a squint as she looked at him coldly, her chest heaving up and down, seemingly trying to contain her anger.
“I’m spot-on, right?” Tang Yuanchu thought he saw through her and snorted again. “Don’t blame me for not reminding you that Captain Bai is getting along very well with Teacher Xiang. Even if you get clingy and stick to him, you might still not get a chance. By then, you’ll just make everyone feel bad, what for?”
Xie Wanwan stared at him motionlessly as though time had stopped.
“If I were you, ” Tang Yuanchu puffed a sigh, his tone softened. “I’ll treasure my friendship with Captain Bai and not try to ruin it by creating trouble and get hated upon!”
“I’m creating trouble?!” Xie Wanwan almost exploded in anger.
Unexpectedly, she grabbed Tang Yuanchu by the collar and stared at him. “Detective Tang, have you finished saying your piece?”
The sudden sweet-smelling fragrance of cosmetics and powder coming from Xie Wanwan made Tang Yuanchu flustered.
Never in his life had he been grabbed at the collar by a woman. He was at a loss of how to react. He felt his scalp numb as he looked at Xie Wanwan’s face that was up close to him.
“What do you want?” He blurted out of reflex, “Don’t tell me, y-you want to kiss me again?”
“I want to bleeping give you a good bashing!” Xie Wanwan had a feeling that she had met a nutcase.
Her thoughts were totally not in the same frequency as this young detective who was simple-minded and straightforward.
Xie Wanwan made a fist but ultimately put it down. “I don’t want to be charged for assaulting a police officer,” she said, gritting her teeth, “otherwise, I’ll bleeping tear your blabbering mouth that only knows how to spout nonsense, into pieces!”
“…”
Tang Yuanchu blushed the moment after his “goddess” chastised him.
He even started to stutter. “Girls, sh-shouldn’t spout profanities. It’s very un-unpleasant.”
After that, he noticed that flames were about to spill from Xie Wanwan’s eyes. He decided to offer another piece of advice. “Moreover, doing that doesn’t suit your public image at all.”
“You’re incorrigible!” Xie Wanwan suddenly gave up.
She felt that it would be useless trying to make him understand.
“I’m so unlucky to have met you!” Xie Wanwan remarked, let go of Tang Yuanchu, and turned away to leave.
“Hey!” Tang Yuanchu was confused as he looked at the direction she was headed to and called out to her. “You don’t want to look for Captain Bai anymore?”
Nobody answered him.
He stood dazed in his position for a moment. He had a feeling that he might have encountered a lunatic.
“What’s the big deal about celebrities? I’m also quite popular online.”
…
Something’s not quite right!
Xie Wanwan came here to look for Captain Bai. And he seemed to have “driven” her away by angering her?
Tang Yuanchu took 10 seconds to realize this piece of cruel truth.
Oh no, oh no!
Would he get a lashing from Captain Bai?
When he entered the room, everyone else had arrived.
When the detectives saw Tang Yuanchu, Xie Hui and several others started to tease him by saying that latecomers should perform for them—for instance, be the accompanying dancer when someone was singing.
“No way? You do it!”
Tang Yuanchu gave a glare, walked past them moodily and sat beside Bai Muchuan. He kept stealing glances at him and seemed as though he had something to tell him.
“Why are you blinking? “Is there something in your eyes?” Bai Muchuan was sitting on the sofa with Xiang Wan, both of them were “well-behaved”. They were chitchatting while eating some melon seeds. Bai Muchuan noticed Tang Yuanchu’s weird expression and turned to him, looking puzzled. “What’s with your expression?”
“Captain Bai, I think I’m in trouble!” Tang Yuanchu went over to Bai Muchuan and said in a low voice.
“Hm?” Bai Muchuan squinted his eyes at Tang Yuanchu inquisitively.
“I…” Tang Yuanchu took a glance at Xiang Wan. He felt that if he were to say it, it might cause even more trouble instead and found himself tongue-tied.
“Hey!” Xiang Wan couldn’t stand that look of Tang Yuanchu as well. “Why are you hemming and hawing?” Xiang Wan asked with an amused tone, “Did you get into trouble or something? You gotta tell us or how will Captain Bai be able to help you?”
Tang Yuanchu—a 23-year-old young lad who had joined the police force in less than a year—was like a piece of pure white paper when it came to love. How would he be able to understand how girls feel?
He felt relieved when he saw that Xiang Wan totally did not mind him disrupting their chitchat and leaned closer to them.
“It’s like this. Xie Wanwan was here earlier and wanted to look for Captain Bai. She’s already outside the room, but I made her left in a huff.”
“…”
“What exactly did you say?”
At that moment, the detectives were singing and the volume was rather loud.
Tang Yuanchu told them what happened but Bai Muchuan and Xiang Wan did not manage to hear clearly what he was saying.
No choice, he cleared his throat and started to shout in a loud voice. “I told her that Captain Bai and Teacher Xiang are getting along very well. I also told her not to harbor any other thoughts and not to ruin your relationship—”
As he said that, the moment he noticed that the whole room was silent, he quickly closed his mouth.
Like those slow-motion scenes often seen in the movies, he turned around slowly and his expression started to become bitter—no, even bitter than the bitter gourd…
When he was saying the first half of the sentence, music was still playing inside the room.
At the latter half of the sentence, the music stopped abruptly.
Hence, the entire room of people heard what he was shouting—including Xie Wanwan who suddenly entered the room.
