Carlotta and her companions continued climbing floor after floor, gaining something valuable on each level before advancing higher.
Carlotta no longer aimed to collect every valuable item on each floor, there were simply too many to gather. More importantly, whatever she obtained would have to be shared among the people beside her. It was better to leave things be and reclaim them later when she retraced her steps.
Besides, many valuable items were hidden so deeply that she didn't need to go out of her way to find them.
Her main goal was to reach higher floors, and the others shared the same objective.
After nearly a full day, they arrived at the 175th floor.
This floor was a cavernous underground maze. As soon as they entered, everyone found themselves deep within the dark, winding tunnels. The rock here was unusually hard, so hard that even the devastating power of Weavers couldn't cause much damage. They could only proceed carefully along the narrow passageways.
Inside the stone caves, it was pitch-black and carried a rotting, unpleasant odor.
"What a dump. Let's get out of this floor quickly," Azure Fox said impatiently, covering his nose and mouth.
Seeing this, Guy laughed and said. "Even the two girls haven't complained about the environment yet, but you, a man, are already losing patience?"
Azure Fox fell silent for a moment, then murmured, "Girl... doesn't necessarily mean female. Who can say for sure about such things?"
Carlotta and Night Cat glanced at Azure Fox, puzzled. They both felt that the comment wasn't quite right.
Carlotta had no idea that Azure Fox, due to a series of misunderstandings, believed she was a high-ranking official from the Mechanical Fortress, and that the fortress's Weavers had no female members at all.
"What weird things are you talking about? Let's go, let's go," Guy said, not understanding either, and strode forward.
White Goat smiled. "I've heard that practitioners of the Knight of Night path can adapt to any darkness. Entering darkness feels like returning home, and their combat power even increases slightly. Let Guy take the lead, then."
Guy smirked but didn't mind. With the Absolute Contract binding them, he wasn't worried about being the leader. If anyone dared to withhold effort when trouble arose, they'd suffer backlash.
The group pressed forward into the darkness. Although the surroundings were pitch-black, visibility was still acceptable for everyone present.
As Transcendents ascended in rank, their physical abilities improved comprehensively. Especially after completing the Resonator stage and achieving full-body magical transformation, their physical capabilities reached terrifying levels, moving through darkness was no different than moving in broad daylight.
Only Carlotta, the false Weaver who hadn't yet achieved full-body magical transformation, was slightly affected. However, her alchemical armor is now fully covering her body. This armor possessed various complex and useful functions, and providing night vision was the simplest of them.
She pulled her head completely into the armor's coverage, looking like a metallic figure, shrouded in mystery.
It was worth noting that since acquiring this alchemical armor, modeled after Lucas's original, Carlotta finally understood why Lucas had lingered so long in the Resonator zone. This armor could actually capture residual traces of presence in the area, allowing her to determine whether someone was still nearby.
'There are some lingering traces in the passageway. Someone came through before us. I wonder which Weaver team it was,' Carlotta thought silently.
When they reached a fork in the tunnel, Azure Fox spoke directly: "This direction has been taken, residual traces are detectable. The other hasn't been touched. Which way do you want to go?"
Azure Fox didn't hide the capabilities of his alchemical armor, since Carlotta had the same functions.
Carlotta glanced at her map and decidedly chose the path others had taken; it also led toward the entrance to the next floor. The other path appeared to be a dead-end with no value, and it was long, which would waste precious time.
"I don't care, but since the lady has made her choice, I'll go this way," Guy said, stepping forward.
Azure Fox hesitated, as if wanting to say something but holding back.
Night Cat passed by Azure Fox and gazed upon him. "What weird thing do you want to say now? If you offend me, I won't hold back."
"It's got nothing to do with you..." Azure Fox said, speechless.
Still, he said nothing more.
The group continued along the path others had taken, and at each subsequent fork, they followed the same principle.
As they walked, Carlotta pondered.
'I wonder who the team ahead of us is. They've taken every fork correctly, each turn leads exactly toward the next floor. Could it be someone like me with an advantage? If not, then what is it?'
Carlotta wondered.
Regardless, since this was the correct route, she saw no reason to object.
The group pressed onward, hurriedly their pace. Knowing another team was ahead, they couldn't afford to dawdle. Otherwise, any valuable discoveries would be snatched up by the other team. They didn't want to end up with nothing.
As for not following the residual traces?
Different people had different thoughts, but no one voiced them. Since Carlotta had chosen to follow the traces, no one else objected. This choice wasn't necessarily bad.
When they reached another turn, Azure Fox whispered, "Judging by the intensity of the residual traces, the previous team just left. We might catch up with them soon. What do you say? Should we keep following? If two teams meet, a fight might break out."
"No fear. Let's go," Night Cat said.
She wore an eager expression, clearly a battle-hungry personality, starkly contrasting her sweet appearance at the moment.
Carlotta walked forward without hesitation.
Seeing this, Guy said, "If the two ladies are this bold, what do we men have to fear? Let's go, let's go."
He followed directly.
Azure Fox, once again, hesitated on the verge of speaking.
White Goat patted Azure Fox and asked curiously, "Why do you keep acting so strange? If you have something to say, just say it."
Azure Fox shook his head. "Nothing. Let's go."
In the end, the five reached no dissent.
They advanced fearlessly ahead, and sure enough, it wasn't long before they saw another Weaver team in the distance.
When the two teams met on the 175th floor, the atmosphere instantly became frozen.
Carlotta and her five members approached, lining up in a row, their gazes sweeping one by one across the five people opposite.
The five on the other side were also staring back. They had apparently seemed to be gathered together discussing something, but now they had stopped.
Three men and two women. Each of the five emanated a deep, oppressive aura, their eyes sharp as lightning, extremely intimidating.
Carlotta's emotions stirred slightly, but she quickly steadied the fluctuations within her heart.
She saw a familiar face.
Achilles Carlisle. She hadn't expected to encounter the very person responsible for forcing her to leave the Wendell Empire, under such circumstances.
The head of the Carlisle family stood with a calm expression, exuding natural authority, as if the very space around him had frozen solid.
'Is it really him? Could it be, just like Guy Nicholson, someone impersonating him?'
Carlotta wondered silently.
If Achilles was here, then where was Selene?
Carlotta's gaze swept over the other two women. She knew what Achilles looked like, because back in the imperial capital of Kestholm, he often appeared in newspapers, his appearance was no secret.
But Selene had never originally been from the Wendell Empire, so Carlotta didn't recognize her.
One of the two women had pale skin, golden hair, and blue eyes, her figure especially petite. If she stood still, one might mistake her for a doll.
The other woman wore a veil covering her face, revealing only a pair of deep, unfathomable eyes, like the starry sky, her demeanor particularly ethereal.
"Selene, you didn't mention that we'd run into others at this time."
A rugged-looking man spoke up.
The veiled Selene replied unhurriedly, "Within the Tower of Babel, fate is unpredictable. To correct deviations, I've devoted all my seer power to finding the correct path."
When they first entered the Tower of Babel, even her Seer Magic couldn't accurately predict where the correct passage lay. But after a period of adjustment, she could now see things relatively accurately.
Hearing her say this, the others didn't press further. Within their small team, Selene's status was undoubtedly special.
"A few of you, just passing through, or do you have other intentions?"
One person spoke, addressing Carlotta's group.
He looked like an elderly man, short and slightly fat, yet his aura was exceptionally imposing. When he stepped forward, it gave the illusion of an approaching tsunami.
White Goat was quite the easygoing type, immediately walked up with a cheerful smile, asking how to address them.
"Among you, there's only one I recognize. Isn't this Lord Achilles Carlisle from the Wendell Empire? Sir, you're truly straightforward, walking the Tower of Babel with your true face. Of course, we also have someone similarly open, Lord Guy Nicholson."
The fake Guy stepped forward two paces, looking at Achilles with a scrutinizing gaze.
Achilles also glanced at Guy, his expression growing more serious. Clearly, he was no stranger to this marquess from an enemy nation.
'This guy actually came too? This is a bit troublesome. Could he have come here on purpose to cause me trouble?'
Achilles thought darkly, his guard instantly raised, unable to ignore Guy's presence.
"In the Tower of Babel, everyone is here for their own gains. Regardless of any grudges from outside, I ask you all to set them aside for now."
It was the short, stout elder from the opposing side who spoke. He introduced himself as Golden Lion, clearly just a code name.
Then the rugged man stepped forward and introduced himself as Big Mountain, another simple code name.
With them leading, the interaction between the two sides remained relatively smooth, and they began introducing themselves to each other.
The doll-like girl on the opposing side was actually called Doll, causing Carlotta to glance sideways in surprise.
Of course, Carlotta herself was also being scrutinized. She stood inside her alchemical armor, fully covered, only the contours of her body visible through the form-fitting metal plating, allowing others to judge that she was female.
Carlotta quietly glanced at Achilles, then at Selene, silently memorizing the auras of these two individuals.
As for enemies, she didn't harbor even the slightest intention of being courteous, but now wasn't the right time to act.
"Speaking of it, meeting is fate. Perhaps we could explore that place together."
Selene spoke now.
Hearing this, the members of her team immediately wore thoughtful expressions.
White Goat asked, "Explore what place?"
Golden Lion said, "Not long ago, we discovered a ruin guarded by many Weaver monsters. We originally wanted to go in and check, but there were too many Weavers, too inconvenient to force our way in, so we gave up. But with a few more of you, perhaps things could change."
Big Mountain asked directly, "Will you cooperate with us?"
This invitation caught Carlotta's five off guard.
White Goat told the other five they needed to discuss it, then stepped back, and the five of them began whispering among themselves.
"What do you think? Is there any necessity for us to get involved in this mysterious ruin?"
White Goat asked quietly.
Facing this question, no one could immediately decide. Each was silently weighing the pros and cons.
Carlotta thought for a moment, then voiced her opinion first, "Let's go take a look. A ruin that even a team of Weavers couldn't handle, whatever's inside probably won't disappoint."
"Aren't you afraid it's a trap?"
Azure Fox asked.
"A trap? Without knowing us thoroughly, would they dare set a trap so casually? Don't they fear bringing disaster upon themselves?"
Carlotta replied coldly, fearless.
Hearing this, Azure Fox scraped.
Guy laughed without concern, "My suggestion is also to go take a look. Those people aren't anything to fear. Under the cover of night, I am invincible. Anyone who dares challenge us, just cut them down."
Hearing this, White Goat immediately gave Guy a thumbs-up, praising him as truly the king of the night, full of courage.
If Carlotta hadn't learned through intelligence that this guy was an impostor, she might have believed it too.
Night Cat chuckled, "My suggestion is also to go take a look."
No need for the remaining members to speak, the decision of three already constitutes the majority.
So the five walked back towards the others.
"Cooperation is acceptable. Let's hope this is a friendly cooperation. Don't try any tricks, we have a powerhouse like Guy Nicholson here with us."
White Goat declared.
