The Primitive Age, Lament of an Immortal(A mythological xianxia story)

Vast Sky 22: The Most Righteous and August

"Oh joy, the immortals are fighting each other again. So much hate, so much envy, so much pride."

In world that could only be described as a paradise beyond paradises, a multi limbed individual caressed a crystal ball. Hs faceless features eagerly awaited the results of Xuanyuan's conquest.

"Such a close minded human. Did he really think my devils would give themselves out so easily?

"Hahahaha. That's the problem with this generation. They forgot the terror of my kind. They forgot just what we are capable of. They have no idea we wouldn't stay stagnant forever."

Hundun clutched the crystal ball with nonstop enthusiasm. He may be unable to leave the paradise, but that didn't mean he couldn't scheme.

In the depths of space, fire in the shape of a cosmic mountain simmered down until a Golden Crow was revealed. Floating in the void, it was gasping for breath.

Eastern Emperor Taiyi's true form glared across the void at Haotian. He had failed in the end. One of his three claws was completely severed.

Though it was not like Haotian appeared any better. The innate god appeared more akin to a walking corpse than a person. Even he was desperately surging his energy to recover his form.

The 12 Petals White Lotus was also exhausted. Constantly defending against a chaos spiritual treasure had depleted much of its recovered lustre. Haotian would have to replant it in special soil for the foreseeable future.

But in Haotian's hands was a scroll with a star chart drawn on. He maintained a strong front as he straightened his back.

"Hah. Hah. Hah. I recommend you leave, else the Heavenly Demons will collapse completely."

Inwardly, Haotian felt on edge. The two had engaged in a multi thousand round battle and ended up exhausted. But if Taiyi charged again with full intention of fighting to the death, Haotian knew he wouldn't leave without permanent injuries.

"Explain yourself to me, Haotian. Why now of all times? Why this method? If you had wanted to rule the Three Realms, all you had to do was ask the Dao Ancestor."

Haotian put the Celestial River Map away. "This world needs to be taught a lesson."

He tapped his pale fingers on the God Sealing Roll, sending a message to all his people. 'Meet me in the Starry Skies.'

"I'm really sorry Taiyi," Haotian apologized to his fellow war buddy. "But something's must be done. I just can't bring myself to trust you all. Please ask Xihe to stop fighting, it'll be easier coming from you."

Eastern Emperor Taiyi shrunk his enormous avian body back into that of a man. There was loathing in his gaze, but also an air of relief. Wordlessly, he disappeared from the void.

It was only then, that Nuwa manifested behind Haotian. She placed her palm on his shoulder, sharing with him bits of her saintly energy. It significantly improved his capabilities.

"In retrospect, of course you needed senior strength to fight him."

"Did you expect anything else?" Haotian snorted.

"I just figured you'd cut yourself off from him permanently. Anyway, why did you not ask me to kill him? Taiyi will be a problem in the future."

"I'd rather not weaken the Three Realms fighting force. As long as they don't force my hand. Obeying me is enough.

In the Starry Skies, Luya's Sun Chakram sliced into Houyi's torso. The archer didn't let that stop him, and released nine consecutive arrows each enveloped with a spell that snuffs out suns.

In the background, a five coloured wheel grew out of the Celestial Palace. It was rapidly expanding and would in time engulf the entirety of the Starry Skies. This face meant all the Demons were madly rushing to dismantle it.

Luya didn't care for fighting Houyi anymore. He didn't even care if he was injured. He only wanted to break apart the ritual enacted by the Yellow Emperor.

"Fool, you're a divinity. Don't you realise what living under that madman means for you?"

Houyi trembled under the attack of Luya. Only the divine spark in his existence allowed him to remain standing. He also had little regard for his safety, though for an entirely different reason.

"Just leave me be!" Luya's body became akin to a literal star. Even Houyi's sun slaying arrows could not overpower him.

From the golden crow, a soft chanting also emitted. This was a sign of the tranquil spell utilised in the Western Heavenly sect. In short, he was attempting to nullify Houyi's desire to fight.

In the middle of their battle, a bolt of silver light shot in between. In the next moment, a galaxy expanded between them. Houyi's arrows were annihilated, but the chanting was silenced as well.

Inside that galaxy, a cinnabar coloured phoenix manifested. In her talons, the Sun Chakram was caught. Houyi retreated several steps, but still clutched his bow.

"Lady Xuannu, thank goodness you've made it. Uncle was ambushed in the void."

Luya excitedly turned to fly towards the palace. He felt safe now that Jiutian Xuannu was here to help.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Yet he suddenly lost speed. His limbs was caught by stellar bands, constricting him into a tangled mess. "Why?"

The woman he knew as Jiutian Xuannu couldn't answer him. Her avian form glanced around the stars where numerous demons looked at her with betrayal.

Around them all, portals opened up and immortals spilled in on all sides. Some rode enormous baggers, some rode atop of beasts, others flew in on their own piece of cloud.

Many of them were dressed like soldiers with their armours stylized after certain animals. Others wore uniform signifying their alliance to Daoism, specifically Yuxu Palace.

"Daoism? Oh blessed primordial lord of heaven. Great Heavenly Venerable of the Primordial Beginnings," a human soldier immediately began praying in gratitude.

"Fool!" Another soldier slapped him. "Why're you praying to a non human. And a defunct religion at that?"

Leading the immortals from Yuxu palace was Guang Chengzi. Behind him, Perfected Puxian, Perfected Taiyi, and the Insightful Boundless Ways Celestial charged out.

Their target was various powerful demons scattered across the battlefield. Powerhouses like Yellow Tooth, Azure Lion, the Jade Rabbit, and a nine headed lion demon found themselves in furious combat.

But what really enraged the demons present was that all the Jade Pure lineage immortals were their cousin disciples. As prolific as Tongtian was in taking in disciples, it was inevitable that a majority of her school was also part of the Demon Heavenly Court. What's more, they seemingly represented Yuxu Palace making this a sect targeting its sister sect.

"You lot dare? Does our Biyou Palace mean nothing to you?" The nine headed lion, known as Nine Spirit sage called out to his opponent Perfected Taiyi.

"You are mistaken fellow daoist. This matter has nothing to with sects anymore."

A golden glow was already present in conjunction to Perfected Taiyi's existing cultivation. The Nine Spirit sage instantly knew something was different about him.

As if to demonstrate, the daoist immortal allowed his weapon to rip through him. Only, that same light pieced him back together as if nothing was wrong. He then forced the lion onto the defensive with fiery dragon whips.

"The Demon Heavenly Court is unworthy," Perfected Puxian said during his fight with Yellow Tooth. "Truth be told I have nothing against you. How about surrendering and becoming my mount?"

Luya watched helplessly as even Azure Lion was suppressed by Insightful Boundless Ways Celestial. "Jiutian Xuannu. What is the meaning of this?"

"Father, it seems your martial brothers showed up to help," Zhuanxu informed Xuanyuan.

While appreciated, Xuanyuan didn't enjoy the feeling of being indebted to them. Once he completes the ritual and cements himself as the absolute authority of the Three Realms, he'll repay the karma with them.

He already felt karmic luck shift away from the demons. In the same instance, he would envelop the universe in his five colours.

CREEK!

The grate palace door was pushed open a smidge. Haotian walked through looking worse off from what Xuanyuan remembered. He instantly became happy to see his friend again.

Haotian approached wordlessly, not knowing what to say to his longtime friend. Xuanyuan's overjoyed smile was intoxicating.

"Good, good." Xuanyuan felt inclined to halt the ritual to embrace him again. But his responsibility compelled him to remain focused. "It's good to see you Zhang Youren."

Being called by his human alias did not bring any feelings in him however. Instead, the ancient innate god studied the ritual being conducted while caressing the God Sealing Roll's pages.

"Youxiong," Haotian said after a time. "Do you remember when we first met? I was lost, hurt, aimless. A large part of me was seeking my own end."

He stepped onto the seat of Eastern Emperor Taiyi observing its intricate patterns, never looking once at Xuanyuan.

"You gave me the companion ship I desperately needed but never realized enough to seek out. I found peace in that. I will always be grateful.

"But as time went on, you changed? No, you never actually changed. You only doubled down on who you were. Come to realize that people don't change. They are always who they are, only seemingly changing as they head towards extremes."

"Realizing who we are goes a long way into finding our paths," Xuanyuan said in agreement. "I'm glad to have you back brother. Just wait a little longer and we can celebrate in the halls of my palace."

"About that."

Suddenly, the air turned hostile. Faster then the Yellow Emperor could react, Haotian threw his sword out.

Xuanyuan had been standing in the middle of the throne hall. Haotian had walked past him to Eastern Emperor Taiyi's throne. He threw his sword straight into the human emperor's back.

Collapsing, Xuanyuan felt his entire existence destabilize at the injury he'd been delivered. The suddenness of it all caused a backlash in the flow of qi. His decedents all suffered from various effects

Haotian shook his head in pity. All of them were talents and could've reached the pinnacle of cultivation with time. But currently, they had yet to breach the Chaos Immortal realm or an equivalent.

The five coloured ritual trembled. Instability began infecting every corner. The red colour threatened to combust, the black threatened to freeze over, the white was rusting. It was only as Haotian gripped it with his palm did it somewhat stabilize.

"Uncle?" Zhuanxu, Xuanyuan's favourite son and heir gasped. He hastily drew his sword. He couldn't even charge forward before a war axe parried the weapon out of his grip.

This was followed by a backhand that sent Zhuanxu flying face first into the war. In front of Xuanyuan, Xingtian had appeared.

The headless divinity whose exposed chest had all the features of a face snorted with disdain. He raised his other axe to strike at Xuanyuan's throat.

Haotian narrowed his gaze in disapproval. "Xingtian," he said in warning.

"Halt brute," Dong Wanggong appeared out of most to intercept the divinity with his staff.

"Hmph."

Xuanyuan watched this all go down in rage. He pushed himself off the floor and roared. "Zhang Youren, what have you done?"

"What I should've done had I been wiser."

Haotian gripped his hand, hoping to crush the formation there and then. His superior power was on full display, sending the crushing presence of a Limitless Supreme Chaos Immortal forth.

"I would've changed destiny forever," Xuanyuan yelled. In his shock, he was held down by Dong Wanggong who also sighed with pity.

"I was about to accomplish our dream. You've ruined everything. Answer me damn you. Why?"

Haotian's face blackened. He raised his other hand and utterly tore the fabric of the formation apart.

The reaction was immediate. A howling moan echoed throughout the Three Realms. The unstable qi and karmic luck tore away at the fabric of reality faster then the Four Symbols could hold it together.

The formation had been on a grand scale in the first place. Yet Haotian seemingly didn't give a damn about the consequences of abruptly ripping it apart.

"Fools," a dark voice laughed.

He had been waiting for this moment. Something was bound to go wrong with the Yellow Emperor's reckless plan of attack.

From within the cultivation base of every human in the stars, a black and white gas flew out. In a shocking twist of events, a bestial entity formed his body just outside the Celestial palace.

An Orca, a Devil Great Emperor who'd survived the anti-devil war until modern day. His appearance sent shockwaves through all the humans who'd used the fast cultivation method Xuanyuan distributed.

"Ancestor is smart," the Orca said. "I'll just have to make sure the destruction continues. Just a little further."

"That's…a devil?"

Everyone from Luya to The simplest human soldier gasped. Only people like Heng'e, Houyi, Haotian, and Xuanyuan remained unsurprised.

"Human destiny could've suppressed the side effects," Xuanyuan scolded Haotian. "You should've let me explain. Instead you've doomed us all."

"The unstable energy released is tunneling through the Three Realms," Dong Wanggong added upon further analysis. "Another portal into the Abyss is being opened."

"Good," Haotian said undeterred. "Make our name known. Every sacrifice as long as I have my order."

What the Orca Devil Great Emperor anticipated came to past as devilish shapes began manifesting in the Starry Skies.

In response, Haotian snapped his finger. His people understood the time had come.

The immortals from Yuxu palace were not the only ones to appear. Immortals from Penglei entered the Starry Skies as well as rogue cultivators who'd pledged to Haotian.

Among them, a second barge belonging to the inner sect of Biyou palace rode out. The Lord of Abundant Treasures, Tongtian's chief disciple stood at its helm to lead the charge. Though unlike Guang Chengzi, he didn't appear as joyful.

Space spun into a wheel allowing for even Blood Fiends and Ghost Immortals to pour through. Leading the charge on hovering throne was Emperor Fengdu.

"Good, more victims to be sent into inferno," the treasure spirit said.

"Ghosts, Daoism, immortal sects, even demons. Youren, just what have you been doing?" Xuanyuan was still pinned, but struggled all the same.

In the Three Realms, the saint of the west Jieyin watched with an uneasy feeling. "Fellow daoist, why block me?"

"Wouldn't you like to know," Yuanshi said from not far away. The two saints appeared inches away from dueling.

"A way into the Abyss has been opened. I will not stand idly by. Jade Pure One, move out of my way."

"And I'm sure inviting some demon experts into the Western Heavenly sect isn't the real agenda. But I digress. I cannot allow you to upstage the main protagonist."

In another part of the Three Realms, the Pangu Genesis formation had crashed and broken into pieces. It was the same battlefield the majority of the demonic horde had been fighting the army of divinities.

Yet neither side were victorious as both were completely suppressed by legions of immortal soldiers. Experts from all over the place representing a new faction.

It was under King Yanluo's command that they fought. And beside him, Xi Wangmu acted as his second.

Xihe was kneeling in front of them, utterly defeated. At this scene, the Eastern Emperor stumbled onto.

"Based on your relationship with my brother in the past, please stand down." Nuwa floated down like a gentle gust of wind. It was evident to the demons that not only had she returned, she was siding with Haotian.

"All these years," Xihe choked. But she struggled to finish her sentence.

In that moment, Taiyi contemplated if he should still fight it out. Ultimately, the combined power was too great. Primal Zenith Chaos Immortals, Limitless Supreme Chaos Immortals, and the backing of a saint.

"Then tell me what Haotian intends for us," he said to them.

"His majesty desires protection for the Three Realms," Xi Wangmu claimed. "To suppress all evils, eliminate all unlawful arts, and bring balance back to the world. Order in its simplest form."

"Majesty…I see."
