Otherworldly Trials [LITRPG Adventure]

Vol 3 Ch 117: Dawn approaches

The woman floating in the sky with energy based wings at her back exclaimed while taking a look at the scenery below her. For a moment, Mikella believed that it was Zoan in a different form, then dismissed that notion.

That woman is way too flamboyant to be Zoan, so she thought she was another angel. But then she dismissed that as well. All she knew was that this being was powerful, but wasn't equal to the angel.

It wasn't that she was stronger or weaker than Zoan in her angel form. No, she was just too different to compare.

Just to be safe, she Identified this new invader, and her eyes widened in surprise.

Mage, Level 132

A Master-stage mage? But I thought Cronus and Anabelle were the only ones…

She thought the only Masters in Arcelot were the two lords she mentioned, so this Master was probably not part of Arcelot. But somehow, her instincts were telling her that she wasn't an enemy.

Whatever reason she had for coming here, Mikella hadn't a clue. But one thing was for certain.

The knight stopped attacking the two and stared directly at the woman above it. As though sensing a hostile threat, it grew weary. It grew more defensive with each passing moment whenever the woman even glanced once their way.

Then she spotted them, and flew right to their side in a heartbeat. Mikella's eyes widened when she spotted the woman near Zeke, instantly getting the knight to back away in a fast retreat. Mikella did the opposite.

"S-Stay away from him!"

She pulled her sword up, though deep in her heart she knew it was pointless. If she couldn't even scratch the knight, there was no way she could face the woman who made the knight jump away to protect itself.

But she refused to let the woman be anywhere near Zeke. Unfortunately she knelt down to his level, staring hard at the downed Zeke whose eyes were closed from being throttled to near death.

"Mmh… is this the otherworlder Dad was talking about? His presence is… mmh, kinda familiar."

Suddenly her eyes became distant, then her brows rose in what looked like surprise. Her eyes seemed to gleam in excitement soon afterwards.

"Ooh! An emergency quest? Now this is promising! Looks like Dad really hit the jackpot this time. Figures that old bastard would want to keep this from me as much as he can. Too late for that, hehe."

Mikella had to wonder what kind of woman would actually chuckle like that in this situation. She knew Masters were in a league of their own, but after almost dying, and almost losing Zeke to death's embrace, her mind just wasn't processing properly anymore.

This woman then glanced over at Mikella, giving her a stare that felt like even her Identify could harm her somehow.

"You–You're an otherworlder?"

Mikella had to take a moment to process. So the lady knew about otherworlders, and the only way that she would know is either she was informed by the fake Hamil and is part of House Corral…

Or perhaps she knew who Cronus was and he sent her here. Considering she said 'Dad', and her own stage…

"Y-Yes…" Mikella answered meekly. Her sword lowered, hoping that the lady would consider it less hostile. "And he's my partner."

"Mmh… so does that make you Mikella, and this one Zeke?"

The woman just pulled Zeke off of the ground by pulling his back like a downed puppy, lifting him up to her feet as she stared deeply at him. Zeke would definitely not be enjoying that if he wasn't unconscious at the moment.

"But I also sense other people here. Are there more otherworlders around?"

"Y-Yes," Mikella nodded profusely. "They're innocent and unarmed. They can't fight for anything. They're only at Apprentice stage."

"Apprentices?" The woman stared at her in shock. "But they have to be adults according to my eyes… unless that's how otherworlders appeared? Huh, gonna have to make Dad tell me more about this. Or maybe I should ask you instead?"

The woman just nonchalantly walked over to Mikella, carrying Zeke like a ragdoll. She handed Zeke over to Mikella, graciously taking him into her arms easily thanks to her high Strength.

"I'll tell you everything you need to do. But please–help us first! That… that thing isn't normal!"

Her pride was in tatters, but right now Mikella coudln't be more happy to have someone on her side. The woman then turned to the knight who just watched intensely at the woman. Her eyes widened.

"I know this is an emergency quest, but my Identify can't even tell me what it is… It's all garbled…"

"It's called the Tower of Arthurian Knights," Mikella answered for her, once again surprising the woman. "I think it can only be identified properly by otherworlders, like us."

"Interesting. And its level?"

"I-It's all question marks," Mikella said regretfully. "It's only one question mark too, but this thing is definitely not a beginner."

"So it shows only a single question mark, yet it had enough power to face Journeymen all on its own. It's clearly above any normal Master-rank monster then…"

The woman smiled. She genuinely smiled as though she just realized something in her head. There was no sense of hostility or even violence eminating from her.

It was as though she found something interesting.

"Then you should get out of here as soon as you can. Once I'm done with this, I'm not sure if this place can hold up any longer. Then again, after the way I got in–it might not even last during the fight."

Now that Mikella thought on it, the woman did appear all by herself with no otherworlder by her side. Zoan did it, but she technically had Clara's body possessed so perhaps she was able to avoid it. However, clearly this lady had some form of skill or ability that allowed her to get into the tower just as the knights of House Corran did.

But she only just nodded at the woman and carried Zeke away from the destroyed field. She glanced one final time at the woman in shining armor as she faced down the knight with that glare that seemed to make steel melt in response.

"Show me what you got."

…..

Despite being a Journeyman of some renown, she watched helplessly as two kids who barely got into Journeymen got their asses handed to them. This knight was stronger, faster, tougher, and overall better than them in combat. It defied all common sense and reasoning from her mind, forcing her to stand still and watch as Zeke and Mikella were facing their end.

She thought that seeing the giant Zeke form, which was only told to her through a story which even back then she couldn't believe, was enough for the monster. However, she was proven wrong. That overwhelming pressure Zeke exuded was just a whiff of wind to the monster as it trampled him and took him by the neck.

Mikella fighting to stop the knight from doing so was nothing more than just a little girl punching the leg of a grown adult. And all Saang could do was watch in horror.

She felt ashamed, but there was nothing she could do. Even Kote, the wiser of the two, stood there with gawking eyes with no plan in his head. She hated seeing this, but she was too afraid to even get out there after seeing what this thing can do against those two powerful kids.

But then a figure came crashing down from the heavens above and forced the monster of overwhelming might to flee like a critter. Her eyes widened, flickering at the sight of the beautiful woman in shining armor, like a knight in a fairy tale.

And to her, it truly was someone from a fairy tale. Her mother, when she was done with getting beaten by their noble masters, would tell Saang stories about a heroine that flew past the prejudice of Arcelot, overcoming all odds and transforming herself into a reckoning for all the nobles out there. To her mother, it was just a story told by desperate women to young hopeful girls to help gain confidence in themselves in this heavily patriarchal society.

But to Saang, it was her motto, her destiny etched in stone. She wanted to be like that heroine, someone who would go out of their way to gain power and to do whatever she wanted, doing good to those she liked and doing bad to those she hated. She was a chaotic icon of pure power and destruction, but to the young female adventurers–she was their idol, their savior from the dark.

That heroine was known as Cerulean, the daughter of Cronus, and the one who stood before the creature as Mikella grabbed Zeke and ran towards their direction.

"Saang, you seeing what I'm seeing?" Kote asked, pulling Saang out of her revelry and answering with awe in her voice.

"It's Cerulean," Saang's eyes sparkled, her childhood dream in the flesh right in front of her. "It's really her."

"Cerulean?" Lyle asked, noticing Mikella running and waving them down. "Who's that?"

The rest of the otherworlders from the back thankfully stayed silent as they watched the magnificent woman standing across the knight that was just manhandling their strongest combatants. They also stayed quiet as they were taken in by Lyle and Janet, trying to take Zeke carefully and administering medicine.

"Our only ticket to survival," Saang said, her tone turning high from joy.

She was a bit ashamed to be caught fangirling at her idol, but can anyone blame her? The chance to see Cerulean was rarer than achieving a level up at High Journeymen.

But now she needed to do her job and looked down at Zeke. She grimaced at the sight of him. Mana burn marks everywhere, caused by his attunement no doubt. His neck was heavily purple and bruised, and there was no hesitation that he has a few broken ribs and windpipe from the beatdown. Mikella didn't look all that great herself, but it was nothing compared to how bad Zeke had it.

Even after gently drinking Lyle's potion purely for recovery and not for aided combat, Zeke was still battered and bruised. The single child of the otherworlders, Tigger she believed his name was, watched in horror at the man down at the ground. He probably saw him as a powerful man capable of handling everything.

Honestly, Saang believed that as well. The way he tried to keep fighting against that knight even when the odds were against him proved he was as much of a warrior than a supporting mage. But that was still too much for him.

"You think she can handle that thing?" Janet asked, looking over at Cerulean. Mikella answered immediately.

"Of course. I'm more worried about us. You think we can handle staying here long enough for them to fight?"

Saang looked back at Mikella in concern. "What do you mean? Can't you teleport us out of here?"

Mikella frowned deeply as she shook her head.

"I'm trying, but even with Zeke down, it feels like something is blocking us. I think it's the knight's fault. Whatever is happening here, this tower is completely broken. It won't work as it should be even if the master is killed now."

"Shit…" Kote cursed.

"So our hope literally lies in that armor lady now?" Lyle asked, hope draining from his tone.

"We… need to survive."

Everyone turned back to see Zeke, his eyes barely open and his voice haggard and cracking in places. Blood poured from his mouth down his chin as he tried to speak, but Mikella helped him out by supporting his head.

"Zeke, take it easy…"

"We… need…" Zeke said, disregarding her warning. "To survive…"

Those were his only words. Rather than speaking to anyone, it was like he was cheering himself on. Still, his eyes were searching somewhere, making Mikella realize that as he turned him over to face the woman against the knight.

Even he wanted to watch what was happening, even if his consciousness is halfway there.

Saang could understand. If there's a better way to learn how to better oneself, one can look no further than Cerulean herself.
