Otherworldly Trials [LITRPG Adventure]

Vol 3 Ch 103: Patriotic Invasion

"Well, that was easier than I thought."

The man known as Hamil, but isn't actually Hamil, said to himself as he glided across the forest on top of the levitating rock he controlled himself. As each minute passed, that control was becoming harder to bear.

Though he said that, he just didn't want to admit how close he was to dying to those two Journeymen. Even with his borrowed powers, they were only half as potent as the real thing. If he messed up that reveal anymore than necessary, he could've easily lost his life–or worse, forced to become their prisoner.

And he was very sure that Saang woman would have his head if she forced him to reveal what actually happened to the real Hamil. She probably wouldn't like that he's already dead and buried the moment they got separated after their last tower run.

Strangely enough, the only reason why things almost went awry for him was because Saang and Kote seemed to have noticed the changes somehow. He wasn't sure why. The moment he took on the Hamil persona, he should have his mannerisms and behavior to a dot, but Saang and Kote were still wary of him, as though noticing the minute details that showed he wasn't truly Hamil, but someone else.

The forest surrounding him, reminding him of a burning forest with its orange and red leaves and the same colored grass beneath, stumped him when he arrived here for the first time. His words earlier about the otherworders were proving to be more correct than he realized.

It took his own people months to find out exactly what these towers were, and all it took were a bunch of kids with a connection to it due to their special circumstances. What else can they do with this giant dungeon as their base? The thought actually frightened him a little.

Hence he kept gliding towards the specific location he was tasked to do. In order to get there without any trouble, he was forced to use the Monster Lure of the highest grade possible. In this sort of place, that might as well be a death sentence to anyone here, but that was preferable.

His brows furled when he realized that the rock that was levitating him was gradually losing altitude, making him curse as he had no other choice but to make a soft landing on the coarse ground. The rock dissipated, dissolving itself into the earth as he looked at the scene in front of him.

Another disturbing fact about this place–despite being in such a large open area, he could literally see the end of the forest, where it just stopped at a certain distance. He could see the ground just run up to the sky, and the sky meeting the ground. It wasn't the horizon–it just looked like someone painted the scenery in such a realistic way on a wall and called it a day.

This was the end of the dungeon, as far as he knew. At least that's what Hamil's memories showed him. His timer was running out on his disguise, and that also goes with the powers bestowed to his disguise. Wanting to make it quick, he pulled out another item from his storage pack.

A small, triangular-shaped object that could fit the palm of his hand. It was metallic in color, and at the center was a dark circle with glowing runes that could beat the walls of Arcelot in its complexity. He pressed the circle with his thumb, and it took in a large amount of his mana. He winced, but he quickly chucked the item and ran for his life despite his lagging resources.

In that short moment, the man thought that it didn't do anything, taking his resources and wasting it. His mind was blown when a blast of white light soon flooded his senses, nearly blinding him from the intensity of the explosion.

A burst of sound nearly pierced his eardrums as he looked back to see the large column of bright light reaching all the way to the fake sky above. It touched the sky itself, and ripples of light flew in waves across the entire sky, perhaps reaching throughout the entire dungeon.

The man watched in awe, realizing a while ago that those Runists from the guild were nothing to scoff at if they could make stuff like this. The device he had on hand was created to brute-force into any pocket dimension, but as one would expect, making such a thing was absurdly expensive. That's why only the rich could ever get one for themselves, but there was never really a need to use it, considering that they were living in a pocket dimension already.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

But the device was used for the first time today, and the man was glad that they were in a separate dimension. Otherwise, the entire country of Arcelot could've easily been destabilized and untold terrors could ensue from this level of power.

Once the column of bright light finished, the man spotted a tear in the fake sky itself, just above the ground. It had a wide gap to fill an army in it, and in that moment, a small army did come in through the gap.

They all wore different sets of armor and cloth, each wearing their own personal colors, but each one had a mark on their left breast, revealing an insignia of their noble house. The noble house that had hired the man in the first place.

And of course, a single man that was stronger than anyone in this group, perhaps stronger than every single person currently in the dungeon.

A rather flashy looking man, wearing nothing but black pants and a white silk shirt. He didn't even have the decency to look armored, wearing only a metal shoulder, elbow, and knee pads. His blond hair was streaked up and his tanned skin glistened under the fake Studded Star, or at least that's how it looked.

He had a smile on his face, using his hand to give shade for his eyes as he looked up. He whistled in pure amazement.

"Damn, it's like another world in here," The man, an assassin hired by the house named Tack, said in amazement. "You know, I can totally see how these invaders can live it up here."

"Tack, stay focused," An older man, wearing heavy-plated armor with the classic sword and shield, said with a gruff tone. "House Corran paid you handsomely to do your job, and I'm here to make sure you don't play around."

"Oh come on, boss, live it up a little," Tack said with a frown, though his expression still showed that ghost of a smile as he shrugged. "Aren't you excited to see this place? Ain't you been trying to get into these towers for a long time now? Now you can, and all it took was a single man's life. A life that I took personally myself, y'know."

Tack said, pointing at himself with a thumb. If the fake Hamil hadn't noticed, he would've never expected this sort of arrogance from a top assassin in the famous Assassin's guild. Truly, if it weren't for him, taking down the real Hamil would've been impossible, or at least too hard for anyone else. He had been a veteran adventurer for more than a decade, so his survival instincts were on par with that of Masters.

That's why it took the top assassin to kill him, allowing the fake Hamil to take over and absorb his appearance, abilities, and even memories.

Thus, revealing that the invaders here were actually humans that came from another world. Apparently the real Hamil made a contract to never reveal the secrets, but once his life had passed, his memories allowed him to hear every single information he had received–and he didn't even have to get in trouble with the contract as that was meant for the living Hamil only.

"Yes, and once again I appreciate that," The older knight of the House reacted. "However, we have received various warnings about how you tend to… 'play with your food'. So I'm here to make sure you stay on the job."

The knight said with a disgusted look, and Tack just shrugged. The fake Hamil also frowned, knowing how Tack worked in the dark side of Arcelot. He was even worse against female targets, particularly those who are young and pretty.

The man also liked to play with women, but the way Tack does it… it sent shivers down his spine.

"Alright men!" The older knight shouted to the colorful group of hired help by the House. "Our mission is to find the inhabitants of this dungeon, and eliminate them! Who knows what they plan to do here in our great country? So the only thing that should be on your mind is eradicating the menace that will soon invade our world!"

The rest of the knights shouted back in agreement. Most of them were paid, of course, but there were a few 'patriots' that wanted nothing more than to keep out invaders that had no right to be in their world to begin with.

The man wasn't sure why they were here, but he didn't like it either. He was truthful when he spouted all that stuff to Saang and Kote. How can anyone trust the people that were sent here through these dangerous towers that constantly caused trouble for the outside world?

Surely, they can't be anything good.

He already explained to the knight and Tack about the two most dangerous otherworlders–the healer and the swordswoman. The healer in question was something to look out for. While Mikella was someone strong, fast, and incredibly dangerous, she had a limit.

Zeke, however, can ignore those limits. But he currently had no way of defending himself. If he still had his barrier, then they needed an entire army to break through that. But as of right now, he was an easy target.

With that out of the way, their impromptu gathering of soldiers and adventurers charged ahead to find the other invaders, and do what is right for their world.

That, and for the fake Hamil, a large bonus on the side.
