World War Three: 2056-2063, fought between The Alliance and The Eastern Coalition.

The Republic of Humanity: Founded in 2063 after the global devastation caused by World War Three, the remnants of the corrupt, oligarchic-corporate-controlled governments of the Alliance are overthrown by returning veterans. The new veteran-led governments coordinate across the globe to form a new republic and prevent humanity from descending into a post-atomic dark age that would last for generations.

The former Alliance members all agree to a framework for the establishment of a new world government to ensure the survival of humanity and create a new Alliance with the intention of bringing the entire world under its control.

After three years of consolidation, rebuilding, and internal relief efforts, the newly formed Republic of Humanity was finally able to move from a post-war subsistence economy to a post-scarcity society. Utilizing advanced self-aware AIs and automated fabrication technology (AFT) that was developed in secret through a collaboration of MIT scientists and DARPA in an underground facility during the war, this fusion of technology changed the course of human history forever.

The combination of AI and AFT created the ability for resource management and allocation to be utilized without human influence, corruption, and inefficiency for the first time in history. The first successful demonstration of this technology happened in the ruins of Washington, D.C., in 2064, when a prototype fabricator factory was airdropped from a C-5M super galaxy transport into the former city center.

The AI activated the factory, and thousands of feeder drones were sent out for resource extraction. As the drones returned with harvested resources, they fed them into the factory, which created more feeder drones to increase harvesting yields. Once the fabricator had a surplus of resources, it constructed builder drones, which then constructed another fabricator and joined the two units together.

Within thirty days, the prototype fabricator unit, which was 80 feet long, 5 feet high, and 10 feet wide, became a fabricator with a footprint of 10 acres. Ninety days after touchdown, the fabricator was now a fully self-sustaining megafactory that covered an area equivalent to one square kilometer.

The AI created multiple types of drones to fulfill a variety of tasks, such as feeders, refiners, builders, scavengers, remediators, and soil sifters. The most important of these were the remediators and the soil sifters, as they decontaminated the radioactive fallout and BioChem residues from the surrounding areas and soils.

A year after touchdown, an area encompassing one hundred square kilometers was decontaminated, and the soil was reclaimed, fertilized, and planted with food crops. All metal, concrete, and other reusable building materials were collected, refined, recycled, and set aside for the rebuilding of Washington, D.C.

The experiment was a resounding success, and by 2067, most of the major population centers of the Republic of Humanity had been rehabilitated and were undergoing rebuilding. The surviving population of the newly formed Republic numbered 1.3 billion, with the former United States suffering the most population loss among the western nations, from a prewar high of 394 million in 2056 to a surviving population of 210 million counted during the census of 2068.

Most of the former alliance members had losses of 20–40% of their prewar populations, with India suffering the most out of all the alliance members due to their proximity to the Eastern Coalition and their stubborn refusal to be conquered. From a prewar population of 1.7 billion in 2056, India emerged from the ashes of war over six years later with a population of just 420 million half-starving survivors.

Republic scientists and their AI counterparts cooperated on a wide variety of technological projects, leading to a golden age of robotics and other fields, which led to innovations such as the first successful humanoid androids that were used for agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and rebuilding efforts to supplement the now greatly reduced manpower of the Republic.

The Republic then shifted its relief and rebuilding efforts beyond its borders. The North American province focused efforts on rebuilding and liberating their Central and South American allies first, while the European province focused on Continental Europe, Eastern Russia, and the Middle East.

The Pacific province led the efforts in Asia, focusing on rescuing the surviving Indians and rebuilding the recently liberated allied countries that were ravaged by retreating Eastern Coalition forces before expanding to the Asian continent. There were minor conflicts as the relief efforts ran afoul of local warlords and surviving remnants of the Eastern Coalition, which were wiped out with extreme prejudice by the rebuilt and technologically advanced Republic forces.

The North American province came into conflict with the despotic La Raza Junta as it sought to liberate its conquered allies, which was based in Venezuela and expanded their tentacles into neighboring countries through a network of corrupt government and military officials.

The Junta, supported by the Eastern Coalition and flush with weapons and cash, initiated a series of coups that successfully overthrew the legitimately elected governments of five neighboring countries in 2052, with another three falling to the Junta in 2053.

The Junta then took advantage of the collapse of the world order before and during the war and brutally conquered most of Central and South America, murdering over one hundred million people in Central and South America with tactical nuclear bombs and BioChem weapons supplied by the Eastern Coalition.

The UAS (Unión de Estados Americanos) were part of the Alliance, and the remnants of their militaries and governments fought on in a hard-fought insurgency against the La Raza Junta during the course of the war.

The Republic-Junta war was a bloody affair as the Republic slowly pushed the Junta back from southern Mexico and down through Central America into Colombia. The La Raza Junta grew desperate and decimated Bogota with BioChem weapons before threatening to do the same to every conquered city if the Republic didn't withdraw immediately.

The Republic, not willing to allow the Junta to keep surviving despite the risk of it murdering millions more in terrible ways, pushed on. The war continued for another three months before the Republic had enough and decided it was time to end it by deploying an entire ATS (Advanced Tactical Suit) regiment to the front lines for the first time.

The ATS system was a radical departure from the prior unsuccessful attempts at creating a viable combat exosuit for soldiers. Advances in technology by medical research AIs had finally made it possible to hybridize the human nervous system with a specialized bio-mechanical android body, and the first viable combat exosuits were created.

Volunteers with military experience who were suffering from paralysis, irreversible disfigurements, multiple amputations, and mortal diseases had their brains and central nervous systems removed and installed in a life support cocoon called "bottles" in their new android bodies. Over several weeks, programmed stem cells regrew the peripheral nervous system and were connected to the suit with medical nanobots, another recent breakthrough technology.

After a period of learning how to use their new bodies, they become fully functional biomechanical beings with unsurpassed combat abilities. These BioSynths were constructed of an incredibly strong high-entropy alloy that utilized chromium, cobalt, and nickel that was impervious to all but the heaviest caliber weaponry. They could run 60+ miles an hour, leap 10 meters horizontally or vertically, and pick up and move objects up to ten thousand pounds with ease.

They were powered by a high-efficiency battery system that was continuously charged by a combination of solar cells, bioreactors powered by food and other organics, and a miniaturized combustion engine that could run on any liquid fuel. They also had an AI battle system incorporated into the suit to complement the human nervous system, increasing their inherent lethality five-fold.

This ATS regiment fielded 820 BioSynths with over a hundred other human and android support troops, air support, and one armored brigade combat team. They engaged in their first battle with two fanatical divisions of the elite presidential guard and an entire armored division outside the junta capital city of Caracas.

Sixteen hours after the battle began, what was left of the two divisions surrendered unconditionally, succumbing to their fear of the "Maquinas de Muerte" after witnessing almost ten thousand soldiers and over 64 T-99 tanks falling to the deadly BioSynths.

The ATS regiment suffered 37 confirmed kills and 227 damaged BioSynths. After a few more battles, the Junta armed forces, now under a coordinated assault by the Republic and the UAS insurgents, refused to continue being slaughtered for the collapsing Junta and finally surrendered en masse.

The legitimate UAS governments were restored to power and joined the newly formed Republic, the insurgent forces forming the core of the new South American Province military forces and quickly bringing the devastated continent back under its control before beginning reconstruction efforts. From a pre-Junta population high of 470 million, 305 million survivors were counted during the census of 2068.

Sub-Saharan Africa was largely spared by the war itself, as it did not partake in the conflict, though North Africa suffered horrendously for resisting the Caliphate puppet state of the Eastern Coalition that invaded it from the Middle East.

Despite not being involved in the actual war, Sub-Saharan Africa was utterly devastated by the collapse of the world order and the abrupt ending of the economic and food assistance they were entirely dependent on.

The corrupt governments collapsed, unable to support their rapidly growing populations on their own, and widespread food riots and simmering tribal conflicts erupted. The conflicts spread like wildfire, leading to the continent being engulfed in almost two decades of systematic genocide, starvation, and food/water shortages caused by a combination of the two-year nuclear winter and the worst drought in recorded history.

By 2065, the population of Sub-Saharan Africa was just over 700 million, down from a prewar high of 2 billion in 2045, and there was a mass extinction of over 60% of the megafauna species on the continent, in what would later be termed the "Great Emptying" by historians.

The Republic government and military officials decided to focus on finishing asserting control over the Eurasian, Asian, and South American continents first, and from 2065 to 2069, Republic forces eradicated any remaining vestiges of the Eastern Alliance, its regional allies, and the La Raza Junta military forces, as well as all local warlords and their militias that subjugated tens of millions to virtual slavery.

Special forces teams and intelligence specialists located and hunted down any surviving government and military officials of the Eastern Coalition and the Junta that were hiding, placing special emphasis on war criminals, who were summarily executed on the spot as soon as they were caught. By 2070, the entire world was firmly under the control of the Republic, except for Africa.

The Republic now turned its attention to the last continent, fighting a long, bloody conflict against the warlords and tribal militias that had a stranglehold over Africa. Ten years later, the entire planet was finally unified under the banner of the Republic of Humanity when the Global Accords of 2080 were ratified by all the assembled dignitaries representing every province.

The 3.1 billion surviving citizens of the Republic now looked upon their devastated world and set upon the solemn task of healing their home and their souls. Over the next twenty years, a massive rebuilding and ecological remediation effort was launched, and by 2100, most of the damage and poisoning caused by the war had been remediated.

The scars of the worst war in human history were removed from the surface of the planet, and massive one thousand-foot-tall monoliths commemorating the victims of humanity's descent into darkness littered the globe, with a promise etched in the granite base of every single one: "Never Again."

Technological innovation increased exponentially as secret government and military research projects worldwide were continually declassified and made available for civilian industries and scientists to utilize for the betterment of mankind.

A major medical advancement was the development of birthing creche biotechnology in the year 2085, which allowed the over 1 billion citizens that had been genetically damaged by radiation and BioChem weapons to finally have children without worrying about birth defects and stillbirths.

The development of the first class of nanny bots by the first self-aware AI, "Dawn", further accelerated the development of the new creche technology, and within a decade of its development, over 500 million healthy babies had been born to parents who had thought that they would never be able to have families, leading to a population boom that continued unabated in the ensuing decades.

Coupled with the exponential increase of self-aware AIs and AFT fabrication methods, a multigenerational leap forward in technological innovation was achieved, and the resource-starved Republic turned its gaze into space, seeking to access the untapped riches of the solar system to help them rebuild. Once the manufacture of precision carbon nanotubes was perfected, nano electro-kinetic thrusters became feasible, and a new class of spaceships was built.

The Republic Space Agency launched manned missions to explore the solar system, and AFT harvester factories were sent to the asteroid belt to extract the resources necessary to build the orbital infrastructure required to become an interplanetary civilization.

In 2112, a methane extraction drone came upon the remains of an alien ship on the surface of Titan, devoid of any technology except for a type of engine never seen before or manufactured by human hands. As word of the exciting discovery spread throughout the solar system, government officials and scientists on the Mars orbital platform were sent to the site to retrieve the wreckage.

Only the engineering section of the alien craft was salvageable, but after two years of study and reverse engineering with the assistance of research AIs, the Republic created its first functioning null drive and tested it, sending the first prototype with an android crew, two human volunteers, and an AI pilot to Proxima Centauri, 4.24 light-years away.

The journey there took five days through the strange space, and the ship exited in the outskirts of the system with no discernible ill effects. All of humanity descended into a joyful madness that lasted many weeks as they realized they were now an interstellar species and no longer in danger of extinction ever again.

The stars were no longer out of reach, and all of humanity underwent a rebirth as they looked at the skies above them with a new hope. A new frontier was calling to them, and they readied themselves to go into the unknown and forge a new destiny for mankind. By 2118, almost 15 million citizens had emigrated to nearby worlds and claimed them, colonizing two habitable planets and beginning the terraforming processes required on the other two harsh, but marginally habitable worlds to make them more comfortable.

This null drive was not antimatter-powered like the alien one was, as the Republic did not have the technological capability to manufacture and bottle sufficient quantities of antimatter yet, and instead they jury-rigged it with the latest versions of miniaturized fusion reactors that were created just two years prior.

Multiple null drive ships were built, and mankind fearlessly flung itself into the unknown, beginning a second wave of colonization and expansion in the year 2120. In the year 2122, the first contact with an alien species was made when a Republic exploration scout ship was intercepted by a Galactic Commonwealth science ship crewed by Eleani scientists in the YZ Ceti system, 12 light-years away from Earth.

This event sent a shockwave through Republic society as they came to terms with the fact that there was not just one, but dozens of alien species, and the technological disparity sparked fears of an invasion and subjugation by an advanced, aggressive civilization.

The result was a decades-long military buildup to turn the Republic into a veritable fortress and a global effort to claim and colonize as many viable exoplanets as possible to create a buffer zone between the Republic of Humanity and the far more advanced galactic community surrounding them.

Over two hundred shipyards and thousands of warships were built in the ensuing two decades while the Republic military spied on the others and adapted their training and war doctrine to compensate for the technological gap between them and the other species.

The rescue of the Xenxin younglings in the year 2131 and the subsequent secret gifting of highly advanced technology by the Xenxin and the Eleani turned the rapidly expanding Republic from a third-rate power into a burgeoning middle power as the advanced technology rapidly spread throughout the military forces and society of the Republic.

By 2172 A.D., the decades of clandestine military buildup and the uplifting by the Xenxin and the Eleani had turned the Republic into the de facto superpower of the quadrant, a fact not known by the Galactic Commonwealth or the other regional powers due to the excellent deception doctrine of the Republic government and military.
