Bodega Cat (System Apocalypse, Deck Builder, Litrpg)

"We've got a full team of people using the golden eagle titan mobs," Kate said. "It's their primary and also they got their secondaries on lock."

The ferry was getting closer and closer to the shore. This time, there wasn't a mass of mobs waiting for them. For the first time, it was hard to even find a mob as it got closer.

"This looks like progress. We need to keep going but this looks a lot better than when we started," Ashley said.

"I know right? Todd kept giving me shit about this. I know he's been talking to you too. We need to set up a Staten Island adventurers guild I guess."

"One thing at time there. First we have to get all of fort Wadsworth. When that's done? We can start seeing about getting any evacuees involved."

Many evacuees hadn't gotten that far. The Verrazano bridge in particular was full of people who had set up tents after getting to the relative safety of the bridge. Something about the bridge itself made it so that mobs didn't spawn there. They would eventually go there if there were enough of them but that was not the norm.

Ashley could see hundreds of tents on the bridge. They hadn't stopped there because the logistics of getting off the ferry onto a bridge hundreds of feet above them wasn't going to pan out in their favor.

"We're going to get these people to relative safety and pass out decks. We've got a lot of work ahead of us. You good?" Kate said.

"I just didn't think that we could see the end of this, but it's been a few weeks. I wanted this to play out right. It just..."

"It doesn't feel right? Put away your pride. We did something amazing."

Whatever she was about to say was drowned out by the gunfire. Not the machine gun kind for once at least. Four marksmen using long rifles were taking slow accurate fire onto the shades that were trying to kill them.

It was messy work but it was honest. Give the mobs away. And it looks like they might be able to start dealing with some of the dungeons that had spawned. It might take them weeks to root out any more dungeons but with actually close enough she can now start marking them on the map for the people that we're trying to get back onto the island.

There were a lot of fewer shades once they got close enough to make landfall. It was like they had finally broken through a line of shades. Hundreds deep and now they had some breathing room. Once they got Todd on the island he would be able to stop by and up up land along the coast line so they could finally get fort Wadsworth under human control.

Ashley was so ready to be over it. The feelings you got from everybody there was that this is great for experience, but it was kind of dull overall. Basically every single person on the ferry was at least level 75 and had three broken perks. In most cases. Many of them just had the recommended ones.

The fort gave them a target It was hard to build up a resentment against the place that could so easily work for their benefit. But Ashley had grown dislike the foothold humanity had on Staten Island. The sooner this was over with, the easier would be say goodbye and turn it into farmland.

Ashley felt the buzz in her pocket. And for the first time in a while, she realized she was getting a call that she hadn't expected. She checked and it was Khaleesi. Khaleesi knew when to call her, and it was almost certainly bad news.

"What is going on? Is there a surge that we're not seeing?

"No this is good news. Ashley the New Jersey side has been doing the same thing and... It looks like we're actually making a dent! I can't show you from here but..."

There was a moment there where Khaleesi whooped and she had to hold the phone away from her ear. It was pretty loud. Ashley couldn't keep the grin off her face. If their eyes in the skies were excited then it was quite possible that they were going somewhere with this.

"Alright. So what are you thinking?"

"Send Janet two up. Ask her."

"That makes perfect sense. I'll do that immediately."

Ashley waved to her drone and it followed her pointing as it ascended into the air. What had once been a multi-purpose drone was now just the helper that did things that she couldn't do by herself. This was fine. She still had the attitude of the original Janet, which was most of what Ashley wanted.

If there was really something going on that her drone could see from here then maybe they'd have a fighting chance of actually making some progress.

She would see them through it. And then she would get her vacation.

He knew he needed to have a meeting with the other cats. But he had just seen Meatball off for her trip to New Jersey. He was absolutely assertive that she would return back home safely.

What he was concerned about was Copernicus. He'd continued with his coffee business and Bagel didn't know what he was doing it with it. He had to talk to Gladys about how he should even bring it up. At her insistence, he'd actually pretended to talk to her about his issues with Copernicus with her playing the part of the other cat.

That had put his mind at ease. He would be able to speak to the cat with that in mind.

So when Copernicus finally showed up to refill his coffee for the day Bagel was waiting for him.

"It's time we had to chat."
