Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 184: Unchanging Obsession Even in Death

Chu Mo watched Hua Shuanniu, who repeatedly charged at him, being repelled and sent flying by the Dragon's Nest's mighty aura, and said indifferently, "I can't believe that, as a martial artist at the Understanding Heart Realm and as an elder of a clan, you don't understand the causes of this conflict. You don't understand what your son has done. It is understandable that you want revenge on me, for no matter what the reason, your son died at my hands. But now, you act as though your son was a victim... and you, the victim's father. Is that even meaningful?"

"You have the audacity to claim innocence... What are you thinking?" Chu Mo gazed at Hua Shuanniu from afar and told him straight, "Let me tell you, you'll never be able to avenge this grudge!"

Hua Shuanniu, severely wounded by now, barely had the strength to struggle. Lying on the ground, he laughed bitterly, "You brat, you have never married or fathered a child... so you would never understand my feelings. Yes, I know that Hua Nan was in the wrong, and I clearly understood what he had done. But those matters aren't really important. What's important is, he was my son! You killed him, so I must kill you!"

After listening quietly for a while, Chu Mo nodded and said, "Come, then, and try to kill me."

Shivering, Hua Shuanniu, took out an elixir and murmured, "This elixir was given to me by a wise man I met in the past. He told me that, one day, when faced with a desperate situation, I could consume this elixir. Consuming this elixir leads to certain death, but it can swiftly boost one's strength by an entire realm. Chu Mo, you should feel honored. A powerful Understanding Heart Realm martial artist like me is going to consume this elixir because of you. If I must die... I will avenge my son!"

The rooster standing beside Chu Mo smirked and said, "Boosting to the Enlightening Heart Realm? Useless! Heed my advice and leave. He's right. You will not succeed in seeking revenge."

"Leave? I will not leave!" Hua Shuanniu looked at Chu Mo with crazed eyes and gritted his teeth: "As I have said, even if it leads to death, I will drag you down with me!"

As he spoke, Hua Shuanniu swallowed the elixir. Immediately, an immense surge of energy exploded from within him. His severe injuries began to heal rapidly, and he felt an endless strength surge throughout his body.

He then walked menacingly towards Chu Mo, and this time, he was able to walk three to four miles straight!

The overwhelming aura that the Dragon Nest released couldn't stop this madman from advancing. But just as the rooster said, all of it was futile.

This Dragon Nest was built by the Azure Dragon himself using various divine vines and woods and bestowed an unimaginably great aura. Even if Hua Shuanniu's strength had reached the level of the Enlightening Heart Realm, it was still meaningless against this aura.

Bang!

The dreadful aura sent Hua Shuanniu flying once more, violently crashing him onto the stone wall.

This ferocious collision caused the hard stone wall to rumble and rocks to tumble down.

Hua Shuanniu howled at the sky, writhing in agony and anger.

"Chu Mo, tell me, how are you not affected by the aura?" Hua Shuanniu spat out blood while yelling angrily at Chu Mo.

Chu Mo glanced at Hua Shuanniu, raised Heaven Slaying in his hand and said, "I have a divine artifact."

Hehe... Haha... Huhu!" Hua Shuanniu laughed bitterly, muttering, "Thank you for satisfying me in my final moments! You are right, I, Hua Shuanniu, indeed can't avenge this grudge. Nan'er...Did you see that?"

His last words were cried out. His eyes streamed tears: "Nan'er, I am not neglecting, it's just that I am powerless! Your death was not unjust! Against such a foe, even I will fall here, let alone you! And he didn't even rely on his overwhelmingly powerful master! Don't blame your father... I am coming to join you!"

While speaking, Hua Shuanniu held his long sword against his neck and yelled at Chu Mo, "Chu Mo, I, Hua Shuanniu, concede defeat. I can't avenge this grudge. But I am sure that one day, someone will take revenge for me. You will surely meet a bad end!"

After saying these words, Hua Shuanniu, gripping his sword, thrust it into his neck.

Clang!

The sword fell to the ground, and Hua Shuanniu's throat spilled blood. Thud! He collapsed.

A martial artist of the Understanding Heart Realm had committed suicide.

Though he had defeated a powerful enemy, Chu Mo didn't feel any joy.

Standing there, Chu Mo remained silent for a long time without speaking a word.

The rooster beside him seemed to be moved as well, but it was the one to break the silence, "There's no need to blame yourself for the death of such a person."

"I don't." Chu Mo said.

"You do!" The rooster said mercilessly. "You don't think it was wrong to kill his son, but you believe his death was your fault?"

Chu Mo remained silent, not saying a word.

The rooster scoffed, "You humans have a saying: 'the fault lies not in the child that isn't taught, but in the father'. Have you heard of it?"

Chu Mo nodded.

The rooster continued, "So what do you have to feel guilty about? Although Mr. Rooster isn't particularly knowledgeable about this incident, based on your conversations, I can make an educated guess. If he had educated his son properly from a young age, then all of these subsequent events wouldn't have happened. Hence, both his son and him have only brought this on themselves, you can't blame others for their actions."

Chu Mo glanced at the rooster. "You know so much about humans, were you a pet rooster in the past?"

"You're the pet rooster! I'll peck at you!" The rooster threatened, ready to attack.

Chu Mo moved out of the way.

The rooster grumbled bitterly, "Mr. Rooster is just giving wise advice. Don't be envious, kid. I'm trying to comfort you, don't be ungrateful."

While the two were bantering, they were nearing the Azure Dragon's nest.

As they got closer, Chu Mo realized that the massive nest was filled with an endless amount of vitality. And an astonishing amount of vines were slowly slithering like pythons. The whole dragon nest was like a living creature!

"Cackling, how about it? Are you scared, kid?" The rooster stood by, watching Chu Mo who seemed to be in a daze, and laughed mockingly. "As long as you put away that deadly knife in your hand, these vines will tear you into pieces in an instant!"

Chu Mo gave a scornful look at the rooster, ignored him, and then leaped straight into the middle of the dragon nest. The vines under his feet stirred restlessly, and several sharp, sword-like vine tips were ready to pierce Chu Mo's legs.

Chu Mo pointed Heaven Slaying at them, and the vine tips promptly withdrew.

The rooster, who had jumped up to the nest with him, looked on in admiration. "This deadly knife may be bad luck, but at times - it sure comes in handy!"

----------------

When I wrote this chapter, I had some hesitation. Even if Hua Shuanniu breaks through to the Enlightening Heart Realm, under the dragon's prestige, Chu Mo still had a chance if they battled. But I don't want to get too heated for the sake of being heated, because if any of us were in that situation, we probably wouldn't have made a move either.

Making a move in this situation isn't about gaining experience or showing your courage. It's just a bit foolish.

Hua Shuanniu was destined to be a tragic figure. He and Fu Long are both characters with blood, flesh, and distinct personalities. Though they don't have a lot of scenes, they both have their own obsessions.

I'm saying all this so you all know that in a book, not only the main character has their own persistence. The supporting characters have it too.

This plot might make some of you feel uncomfortable. Please go easy on the criticism.

Because things are about to get really exciting!
