Chapter 701: Not Rescuing

"Over here."

Following the guidance of the Star Trace Technique Spirit, Gwen reached out and cleared away the soil on the ground. It didn't take her much effort before a narrow underground tunnel appeared before everyone. This tunnel was located on one side of the hillside, and just a few meters away lay the massive vine city of the Four Pillars God Sect.

If it weren't for Igula casting a miracle to reduce their presence, the long-range miracles of the Four Pillars God Sect would have targeted them by now. Even with miraculous assistance, they still had to wear wasteland camouflage to avoid drawing attention.

It's amusing to think that during the Blood Moon, Ash and the others were weak and could only focus their energy on enhancing their combat power, ignoring other aspects. During the Gospel era, despite a strong need for reconnaissance, the mechanism of the Gospel Book surpassed all reconnaissance miracles, so they didn't make any improvements. In the Senluo Wasteland, although they needed to hunt down the Silver Lamp, except for the Mercury Wooden Horse's prophecy miracle, other methods were difficult to locate the Silver Lamp, so they still didn't fill this gap.

In the aspects of attack, defense, healing, mobility, reconnaissance, and support, this group of Holy Sanctuary Mages generally only developed the first four. For something as simple and common as tracking, they were surprisingly unable to achieve it.

Fortunately, Gwen possessed both the Star Trace Technique Spirit and the Starlight Technique Spirit, the former capable of tracking starlight traces, and the latter able to attach starlight to any target. With adequate preparation, she could almost track any target.

"Mr. Tamasi should have infiltrated the city through this tunnel," Gwen asked, "Should we go in?"

Ash glanced at the quiet vine city and shook his head, "He might have sneaked in unnoticed under the cover of darkness, but with so many of us, it might not be the same. Let's retreat to a safe spot, have some breakfast, and then discuss it."

No one objected, and they retreated to the shadow of the Gobi a hundred meters away. Qikara skillfully took out a flat pan and a stove rack, heated the pan, added oil, and put in the marinated beef - breakfast was beef macaroni - then immediately stated his stance, "Mr. Tamasi must have gone to assassinate the Mercury Wooden Horse. He's in great danger now; we should go assist him!"

Igula raised an eyebrow, "If you were in the Kingdom of Blood Moon, even if you couldn't become mayor, you could definitely make it as a council member—your ability to adapt to circumstances is truly wasted in the Senluo Wasteland."

"Ah, I often lament why I wasn't born a Blood Moonian," Qikara sighed, "Then I could have met Mr. Bokin, Mr. Harvey, and Mr. Ash earlier... I almost wish I was born in the Blood Moon!"

"We met in a death row prison," Harvey said while trimming nails.

Except he wasn't trimming his own nails.

He took out the coffin to let it sunbathe, while he sat on its lid. Alice, lying inside, extended her hand out of the coffin for Harvey to maintain. One must say, the power of habit is truly strong, as Qikara and Gwen were already unfazed by the pungent mix of preservative and corpse smells. As for Ash and Igula, they had long lost their sense of smell.

"Harvey, your words," the Beastman chuckled, "do I not look like a death row inmate? But on reflection, among us, it seems everyone except Mr. Tamasi could be considered one..."

"Tamasi is too," Ash said calmly, "He's been prepared to go to Hell and suffer for a long time."

The sizzling sound of beef being heated in oil prompted Qikara to quickly add scallions for stir-frying. Amidst the rising oil smoke and vapor, Ash glanced at Gwen and then at Igula.

"You also have clothing marked with starlight," Igula proactively explained, "I wasn't specifically targeting Black Crow; it's an insurance for everyone. Of course, if Gwen betrays us, we can set a trap using the marked clothing."

"But you knew the Mercury Wooden Horse was down there, right?" Ash's tone seemed to carry a hint of accusation, "After all, even Tamasi noticed."

"All I can say is, I'm not sure," Igula admitted, "The Mercury Wooden Horse is cautious, afraid of death, loves enjoyment, ruthless, and happens to command followers by descending into a believer's vessel. It's not surprising where she hides."

"But analyzing her personality traits, the Mercury Wooden Horse prioritizes her safety above all, so she certainly keeps the strongest pieces under her control—like Legendary Mage Oleva the Pope."

"From my investigation, Oleva, even if he fights outside, would quickly return to the Four Pillars God Sect station. The Mercury Wooden Horse wouldn't live near Oleva, but they wouldn't be far, ensuring he can quickly support her in case of any accident."

"Now, Oleva is in the Silent Spiral and is likely to stay for over half a month, so the Mercury Wooden Horse is probably also in the Silent Spiral. That's the first piece of evidence."

"Black Crow said that besides him, all of Ya Sha Jin's sect members are addicted to Raven Blood Wine… it's evident the Mercury Wooden Horse is also an addict. The Four Pillars God Sect even moved a lot of Raven Blood Wine into the Silent Spiral, suggesting it's to supply the Mercury Wooden Horse. That's the second piece of evidence."

"The Four Pillars God Sect withdrew all their forces, almost abandoning all strategic points, allowing the Qinri Alliance to invade their core, all to hold the Silent Spiral, indicating Mercury Wooden Horse is recklessly going all-in, not caring about consequences. It's hard to imagine her hiding elsewhere waiting for news during such an all-or-nothing fate gamble. That's the third piece of evidence."

"But even so, I'm still not daring to make a conclusion," Igula paused, "Only Black Crow, who has been with Mercury Wooden Horse for over twenty years, can confirm that old friend is just below."

Ash's lips moved, but in the end, he said nothing.

Qikara divided breakfast into portions for each person, even preparing a portion for Alice, and ate directly from the flat pan himself.

Sensing the subtle atmosphere, the Beastman took the initiative to start a topic, "If we want to infiltrate, it'd be best to use the cover of darkness. We could even destroy the statues of the Four Pillars God Sect, reducing their light areas to create chaos. By the way, I know the Dark Gold Bishop guarding the west wall, that guy is a coward; encountering an unexpected situation, he'll ensure his own safety first..."

"But there are still 9 hours until nightfall," Gwen said, "Wouldn't it... be too late?"

"Right," the Beastman patted his hairless head, "Look at my brain; luckily, you reminded me, Miss Gwen. In that case—"

"Shut up and eat your breakfast," Igula said coldly, "If your mouth just wants to talk, I can help stuff the flat pan into the mouth below."

The Beastman tightened his sphincter.

"No need to vent on Qikara," Ash shrugged, "He's just saying things I wanted to hear. Thank you, Qikara, but I wouldn't dare put in a good word for you in front of Igula. You're better off pleasing Igula than trying to win me over."

The Beastman Sanctuary forces out a couple of sheepish laughs.

"Or, perhaps you're speaking in reverse, encouraging me to rescue Tamasi to make me give up."

"No, I've never told a lie, Qikara—"

"You needn't worry if that's the case."

Ash said, "I never intended to rescue Tamasi."

Everyone was startled.
