Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 519: Generous Rewards

Morning.

Pearl Community, the Luke family.

When Luke woke up, it was already past nine in the morning.

The terrorist attack case was solved yesterday, and the FBI held a celebration party. Luke attended it as a detective consultant and was one of the main figures at the party.

Luke was quite famous in Los Angeles, regarded as a rising star in the LA Police Department. With such development, he would undoubtedly have a place in the police department in the future. Now, he also officially became a detective consultant for the FBI's Los Angeles office by assisting in cracking the bioterrorism case.

His network was expanding, and many people were optimistic about his future. At the party, he was in the spotlight, with many toasting him, which led to him being hungover last night.

Feeling terrible.

After getting up, he took a shower, which helped clear his mind a bit.

[Ding Dong... Congratulations to the host, you have successfully solved the dismemberment case, and earned 100 points.

The host assisted the FBI in solving the bioterrorism case, earning 300 points.

The host protected the safety of teammates during the bioterrorism case and earned their goodwill, receiving an unknown function card. Would you like to enable the redemption feature?]

Receiving 400 points all at once, combined with the remaining 50 points previously in the system, Luke now had a total of 450 points, suddenly feeling like his 'net worth' had skyrocketed.

Luke opened the system, clicked on the unknown new card, enabling the redemption feature required 100 points, "Activate."

New card, interference card

Type: Function Card, can interfere with electronic camera devices around the user, rendering the camera function inoperative. (Limited to ten minutes, can be restored anytime.)

Exchange points: 50.

This card is very practical. As Luke's fame grew, he became somewhat of a public figure who needed to always be conscious of his image, and this card could just be used to deal with clandestine photography.

When dealing with secret filming, sometimes the equipment could be directly seized, but at times when it's inconvenient to resort to force, this card would come in handy.

During investigations, he might also encounter some unsavory characters, and could appropriately use some methods.

The only drawback is that it requires a lot of redemption points, the most for any card in the Detective System.

Luke exchanged for 2 cards, consuming 100 points.

At this point, the Detective System still had 250 points left.

In these two cases, Luke had used a lot of cards, which needed replenishment.

First, he had used 2 Bullet-Proof Cards, with 2 remaining. Replenishing four Reserve Cards would require 60 points.

He used one Accuracy Card, leaving three, needing 20 points to replenish.

Two Detection Cards were used, leaving one, (one card used last time was not replenished) requiring 60 points to replenish.

One Shield Card was used, leaving three, needing 10 points to replenish.

Once Luke replenished all the Reserve Cards, the system had 100 points remaining.

The points rewards this time were indeed bountiful, but after redemption, there wasn't much left.

Luke was resting today.

After having breakfast at a cafe near the community, he went to the Palisades Community to check his new home.

It was already April, and according to the agreement, Luke should pay the third installment of the construction contract fee.

Driving his Mercedes G-Class to the Palisades Community, the moment Luke stopped the car in front of his yard, he felt something was amiss.

The driveway to the house was blocked horizontally by a gray SUV.

Luke walked to the gray SUV, and there was no one in the driver's seat. Dense trees surrounded the yard, and from this angle, he couldn't see the inside, so Luke walked straight into the yard and faintly heard a commotion.

In the yard, there were quite a few people standing, divided into two groups, one led by the Zhang brothers, who were workers, though many in number, seemed disorganized.

The other group consisted of four tattooed and ear-pierced men. These men were also Asian but were neither polite nor friendly in tone.

A man with a scar on his face arrogantly cursed, "You *bleep*ers, I'm telling you now, if I say you can't do it, you can't do it.

Try doing anything, I dare you."

The older Zhang brother, Zhang Jianguo said, "Boss Scar, let's talk this out, we're all here to make a living, there's no need to push anyone to a dead end."

The Scar-faced man sneered, "Nicely put, we're also here to make money, why should only you make money, and we can't?

As long as you do things according to the rules, we can all earn together. If you cut off our source of income, you won't have it easy either."

"*bleep*-ing jerk, what are you filming for?" One of the men with dreadlocks snatched Zhang Jianmin's phone away and smashed it hard on the ground, pointing at Zhang Jianmin, then at the other workers,

"Don't be ungrateful. If anyone dares to film, we'll beat you to death."

"Damn it, I'll fight with you." Zhang Jianmin, exasperated, was about to punch the Scar-faced man but was held back tightly by his brother Zhang Jianguo, "Jianmin, calm down, don't use force, he has a gun."

A few workers were also standing behind the Zhang brothers, glaring at Scar's group, but seeing guns tucked in their waists, they could only swallow their anger.

A dozen or so strong workers were intimidated by four small-time thugs. Luke almost felt like laughing when he saw this scene, this was America!

A society where anyone can buy a gun, truly achieving equality in life.

However, thinking that these workers were all Chinese, Luke felt relieved. Chinese folks are among the most kind-hearted and hardest-working people in the world. Most of them have families to feed, and even if not for themselves, they would think for their families, as long as there's a meal, no one would use a gun.
