Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 510: Threat (Part 2)

Luke gave him a glance, then turned and left.

Milos Bar.

Unlike most noisy bars, this was a small tavern by the sea, not crowded, without loud music, more like a place for friends to chat and drink.

By the time Luke arrived, Nami Inoue was already there.

"Captain Lee, over here." A fine East Asian beauty like Nami Inoue stood out in the crowd, and a few foreigners kept glancing her way.

Luke went over, pulled out a chair and sat opposite her, "The environment here is nice."

"The drinks are great too. What do you want, it's on me."

Luke said to the waiter beside him, "A glass of whiskey, please."

"Captain Lee, what's it like catching a terrorist?" Nami Inoue asked with a smile. There was no one at the table next to them, so they weren't worried about being overheard.

Luke recalled, "He was very cunning. Knocked out a patrol officer, trying to escape wearing the officer's uniform. He almost got away."

Nami Inoue asked, "I heard he even coerced a homeless man into shooting at you?"

"Yes, the terrorist was injured by me and hid behind the homeless man's tent. Because he was wearing a police uniform, the homeless man thought he was an officer. So, under his persuasion, the homeless man shot at me."

Nami Inoue showed an admiring expression, "Wow, just hearing about it sounds thrilling. I really wish I had been there."

Luke laughed, "If you were there, what would you have done?"

"I haven't thought about it, but at least I wouldn't have been a hindrance."

Just then, the waiter came over and handed Luke a glass of whiskey.

"Thank you." Luke handed him 50 US Dollars, "For our drinks, the rest is your tip."

"Thank you for your generosity, sir." The waiter took the money and left.

Nami Inoue said, "I said I'd treat you today, and yet you ended up treating me."

"I'm not used to letting women treat me, especially beautiful women." Luke raised his glass and clinked it with hers.

"Then next time, I'll treat you to Japanese food."

"I like that idea, but make sure to take me somewhere authentic." Luke replied with a smile, then put down his glass and said, "Tell me about the threatening video!"

Nami Inoue teased, "Captain Lee, didn't you say you were looking for me for personal matters?"

Luke looked around and whispered, "I'm worried about the phone being tapped. If it involves secretive things in the future, it's best to meet face to face."

Nami Inoue followed up, "So, I can call you whenever I have business?"

"Of course, you can call me to have a drink even if there's nothing up."

Nami Inoue raised an eyebrow, "This is somewhat different from what I imagined."

"What's different?"

"I heard you were difficult to handle before, but now that I'm meeting you, you're... quite nice."

Luke was a bit surprised, "I'm difficult to handle? Where did that come from?"

Nami Inoue hesitated for a moment and said, "Pari Jones, I heard she got into trouble with you, and now she's in a bad state, even lost her job at the news channel."

"You know her."

"Not really know, but I've heard of her. She was somewhat famous in Los Angeles's news circles, but now none of the major TV stations want her. She can only work as an independent investigative journalist."

After all this time, it was the first time Luke heard about Pari Jones's situation.

"It's not me who's difficult, it's her.

She always tried to get information from me, but I didn't like her style."

Nami Inoue pointed to her own chest, "What about my style?"

Luke looked her up and down. Compared to the tall and voluptuous Western women, Nami Inoue had a unique, slender, and delicate beauty of the East, and her chest was quite a sight, too. He nodded, "First impression is not bad."

"Thank you for your appreciation. I'm honored." Nami Inoue was pleased with Luke's answer, her bright eyes filled with amusement.

The two had another drink.

Nami Inoue leaned forward slightly and whispered, "This afternoon, another stranger delivered a package to the TV station.

We were terrified, thinking it was another bomb. So, we quickly called 911.

But instead of the police, Homeland Security showed up.

They checked the package, and it wasn't a bomb but a threatening video."

Luke asked, "How do you know what's in the video?"

"They checked the video at the station immediately. As journalists, our job is to dig for news, and since the station is our territory, wouldn't it be easy to find out the video's content?"

"Can I see it?"

"No, the Homeland Security people were very cautious. We didn't get the video, only recorded the audio."

"That works too."

Nami Inoue took out her phone and handed Luke a pair of Bluetooth earphones. He put them in, and soon, a man's voice came through.

"I'm very angry. You ignored my words and not only didn't release L338 from Guantanamo Prison but also caused my partner's death, which made me furious. I want revenge until you realize your mistake, until you're willing to release L338...

Oh, Luke Lee. Yes, that's the name. You're the one who disrupted my plan. You better be careful, be smart, I won't give you another chance to obstruct me...

I'll give you another 12 hours to release L338. If you don't follow my instructions within 12 hours, then pray to God."

Luke listened carefully twice and could confirm the voice in the earphones was the same person as the last threatening video.

Tapani Reagan wasn't lying; he did have accomplices.

The new threatening video's credibility was quite high, as the city government bombing was the best example.

The opponent wasn't just bluffing; there's a real possibility of launching a new wave of terrorist attacks.

Even more infuriating, this guy had set his sights on Luke.

Luke definitely wasn't afraid for himself; he was worried about his family's safety. Countless thoughts rushed through his mind, even thinking about buying a few tickets to Hawaii to send his family there first.

But after careful thinking, he dismissed the idea.

Even if the terrorist had targeted him, it should have been just recently, and they wouldn't know about his family's situation and address.

If he rashly acted or arranged for his family, it might expose their whereabouts instead.

More importantly, Los Angeles was his territory, where he could provide maximum protection for his family. If they went to Hawaii, it would be out of reach.

After much deliberation, Luke decided to stick with the status quo.

Nami Inoue interrupted his thoughts, "Captain Lee, what do you think?"

Luke took off the earphones and handed them over, "What we're going to talk about next is likely to involve some confidential topics, let's find another place to talk."

"Where to? The safe house?"

Luke saw a hint of excitement in her eyes, shook his head, and chuckled, "You've watched too many movies."

"Then where?"

"My place."

Nami Inoue showed a quirky expression, jokingly, "Going to your place on the first meeting, isn't that a bit too fast?"

"Do you have a better place in mind?"

"I know a good restaurant, they have private rooms with good privacy, how about that?"

"OK." The two finished their drinks and left the bar, getting into Luke's car.

The car started slowly, and Nami Inoue directed from the passenger seat.

Nami Inoue asked, "Captain Lee, you successfully stopped a terrorist attack on the city government and even killed a terrorist.

You could say you made great merit, but the case was transferred to other departments. Might you feel a bit disappointed?"

Luke glanced at the rear-view mirror, "Are you asking out of curiosity, or as a journalist?"

Nami Inoue hesitated, "Good question. Honestly, I don't know, maybe a bit of both. Is it convenient to talk about?"

Luke didn't answer, his expression gradually becoming serious, his eyebrows furrowing.

Nami Inoue glanced at him, "If this question makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to answer."

Luke answered unexpectedly, "We're being followed!"
