The indigenous girl was biting her right-hand nails, looking conflicted. "I... I didn't participate in any major criminal case, I really just wanted to make some money to spend."
Luke's tone was stern, "Then why did you steal my documents? Give me a good reason. Don't lie to me again, this is your last chance."
The indigenous girl's eyes turned red, "This morning, a white man approached me... gave me two thousand US Dollars in cash to steal your documents from your room, and wanted me to make it look like a normal theft."
"Why would that white man do such a thing?"
"I don't know."
"How did you know my room number?"
"That man gave it to me, he also showed me your picture."
"Do you know that white man?"
"No, it was the first time I met him today."
"What does he want to do with my documents?"
"I don't know, he just told me to steal them, said I could even throw them away, didn't explain what he wanted to do."
"How many times have you seen him?"
"Just that one time."
"Where's the two thousand dollars he gave you?"
The indigenous girl looked towards Martin George.
Martin George said, "Temporarily seized as stolen goods, all in old twenty-dollar bills, hard to trace."
Luke nodded, "What does that white man call himself?"
The indigenous girl shook her head, "I don't know, my contact with him was very brief, he left right after we made the deal."
"Where did you meet him?"
"In an alley behind Chinatown; he approached me directly when he saw me."
"Is there any surveillance nearby?"
"No."
"What were you doing at the time?"
"I... was just about to steal."
"So he saw you stealing, then hired you to steal from my room."
"Yes."
"Can you help us find that white man?"
"No, but I should be able to recognize him if I see him."
"Describe his appearance."
"He was wearing a gray short-sleeved shirt, jeans, and a gray baseball cap, that's about it."
Luke asked, "Did you see his face clearly?"
"Yes."
Luke looked at Martin George, "Officer George, can you help me prepare some forensic sketch tools? Like pencils, an easel, white paper."
Martin George nodded, "OK, I'll see what I can find."
Soon, Martin George brought the items Luke needed.
As Luke asked about the white man's physical features, he started sketching the composite portrait.
Luke's forensic sketch skills were becoming more proficient, and with just a few strokes, he outlined the figure of a white man wearing a baseball cap.
In less than an hour, Luke completed the forensic sketch, adjusted some details, and turned the easel towards the indigenous girl, "How do you feel? Does it need any adjustments?"
The indigenous girl stared at the picture and shook her head, "No adjustments needed, the sketch is quite similar to the white man in my memory. Is the FBI always this skilled?"
"It's not the FBI that's skilled, it's me." Luke pointed at the sketch and asked Martin George, "Have you seen this person before?"
"No." Martin George shook his head.
Luke looked back at the indigenous girl and asked, "Do you think he's a local?"
"Probably not, his skin is quite pale, not like the skin color of a local." The indigenous girl showed a pleading expression, "Sir, I really know I was wrong.
I swear, I'm just a thief. I'm absolutely not involved in the major criminal case you're talking about."
Luke didn't say anything and turned to leave.
This indigenous girl looks pitiful now, but that's just for now. If she's released, she might just go back to her old ways.
Moreover, she did steal and must take responsibility for her actions.
As for the major criminal case Luke mentioned, it's referring to the Los Angeles kidnapping case. Based on the current analysis, this girl was just being used, and it's hard to extract any valuable information from her.
Luke chatted with Martin George for a few moments, asking him to help investigate the white man in the sketch; this man might be related to the Los Angeles kidnapping case.
If we can find him, it would greatly aid in solving the case.
Then, Luke left the police station with the stolen documents and cash.
Back at the hotel, Luke gathered his family together and returned the documents to them, giving the cash to his grandfather.
Robert was somewhat surprised, "Found it back so quickly, this is indeed a surprise!"
Linda patted her son's shoulder proudly and said, "With Luke here, I'm not surprised at all."
Luke laughed, "By the way, I have an announcement to make.
I've booked an early flight for tomorrow morning, and I need to return to Los Angeles first."
The little chubby brother was a bit reluctant, also somewhat dissatisfied, "Big brother, you're still going to leave us? We didn't agree on that before."
Luke added, "To show my apology, I've covered your return flight and accommodation expenses to Los Angeles." Luke pointed at the chubby brother, "I'll leave you five hundred US Dollars to have a good time, my dear little brother."
"Big brother, I love you, really don't want you to leave." The chubby brother hugged Luke's arm and rubbed his chubby face on Luke's shoulder affectionately.
"Why don't you come back to Los Angeles with me?"
"No, no, no! I don't want to." The chubby brother quickly jumped aside, drawing a clear line.
After saying goodbye to his family, Linda called Luke aside, "Are you leaving with Orty?"
