Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 477: Target Locked

Hawaii, Hilton Hotel.

Two police cars drove into the Hilton Hotel and parked below the hotel apartment building, and four officers stepped out of the cars.

Leading them was a middle-aged black officer.

After getting out of the car, he looked around leisurely and strolled into the hotel lobby. If he weren't in uniform, he could easily be mistaken for a casual tourist.

The four officers took the elevator to the third floor.

A bellhop was already waiting at the elevator door, gesturing with a hand. "Sir, the guests who lost their items are in rooms 306 and 308. Let me take you over there."

The black officer nodded, maintaining his leisurely pace.

At this time, Robert, Linda, Val, and the chubby guy were standing in the corridor, looking somewhat upset. No one wants to encounter this sort of situation while on vacation.

The black officer scanned the group and asked, "Who called the police?"

Robert pointed to room 306 and said, "Sir, my name is Robert. It was my room that was robbed. The hotel called the police for us."

"My name is Martin George." The black officer introduced himself briefly and asked, "When were your things stolen?"

Robert shook his head, "We're not exactly sure of the time.

We left the hotel at 8 a.m. to visit Gulan Ranch and returned around 2 p.m. to change clothes before going out again.

I noticed signs that the room had been searched... then checked and found that cash and documents were stolen."

Martin George slightly frowned, "Documents were stolen too?"

"Yes."

"Where were the documents and cash kept?"

"In the safe."

"Did you change the safe's code?"

"No, I didn't think it was necessary at the time..."

Martin George said nothing; he had seen many similar situations where guests would use the safe but, for various reasons, wouldn't change the code, making it ineffective. This kind of tourist often got robbed.

"Are you here on vacation in Hawaii?"

"Yes."

"Who is staying in room 308?"

Robert said, "My two grandsons are staying in room 308. Their room was also robbed, same as ours."

"How many of you are there?"

"There are five of us in the family. My daughter is in room 307."

Martin George glanced at Linda standing nearby, "Ma'am, is there any sign of theft in your room?"

"No."

"Did you change your safe's code?"

"I didn't use the safe."

"Before and after leaving the hotel, did you see anyone suspicious?"

Robert thought for a moment, "I don't recall. We were just focused on having fun, thinking the hotel would be safe."

Martin George paced the corridor, "Where's your other companion?"

"He went to see a friend," Robert glanced at his watch, "He should be back soon."

"Can you contact him? Are you sure he didn't take the items from the room?"

Robert shook his head, "We've contacted him. He didn't take anything from the room."

Martin George nodded and instructed the nearby officer, "Record the specific items they've lost."

Having said that, Martin George walked into room 306. He scanned the room, seeing that all the cupboards were open, items scattered on the floor, and a black safe at the bottom of the closet. The safe door was open, and nothing was inside.

He squatted down, breathed on the handle of the safe, and shone a flashlight on its surface, faintly seeing fingerprints. It was unclear if they were from the guests or the thief.

He stood up, scanned the room again, and noticed the balcony door was open. Stepping onto the balcony, he took in the beautiful view. The sea was just nearby, offering a scenic view from the balcony.

Resting his hands on the balcony railing, to his left was the balcony of room 306. The balconies were adjacent, and it was entirely possible to jump from one balcony to the other.

Martin George stepped out of room 308 and asked the young patrol officer who had just finished taking notes, "Have the scene investigators arrived?"

The young officer said, "I just contacted them. They'll be here shortly."

Martin George nodded and walked into room 306. In this room, the cupboard doors were also open, the safe door ajar, mirroring the situation of the other room. They could compare fingerprints on both safes. If the prints were the same, it was likely the thief's doing.

Martin George had a vague sense something was off, hearing a strange noise. He stood up, his right hand on the gun's grip, and cautiously walked towards the balcony, seeing a young man with black hair standing there, "Who are you?"

"My name is Luke. I'm staying in this room.

I got a call from my family saying the hotel room was robbed, so I came to check on the missing items.

I arrived while you might have been investigating the other room."

Martin George moved his hand away from the gun, "What items did you lose?"

"Documents and cash."

Martin George continued, "Have you seen anyone suspicious near the room today?"

"No."

Luke asked, "Sir, is there any progress with the investigation? When can we expect to get our missing documents back?

I was planning to leave Hawaii tomorrow."

Martin George shrugged, "I've just taken over the case, so I can't answer that. I can only tell you that I'll do my best to find the items."
