The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 59: Undermining Saint Sis's Foundation (Seeking Monthly Pass!)

At twilight, the sun dipped below the horizon.

The three chimes from the church in Silver Pine Town marked the end of the prayers before nightfall, and the remnants of sunlight spilled onto the red brick and shiny tiled roof, slowly stretching the shadow of the tower's cross onto the ground.

Standing beneath the colorful stained glass window, Priest Matt quietly watched as the believers dispersed into the distance, then turned to the church's cellar in the backyard under the watchful, reverent gaze of the young monks and nuns.

This was where the church stored its red wine, a space quite spacious, about fifty to sixty square meters.

Ever since the Great Graveyard took control of this church, the Lord Demon King had arranged for his minions to dig a secret passage leading directly from the first level of the labyrinth to this cellar, making it the designated spot for secret meetings.

Every twilight, Matt would come here under the pretense of studying scripture, lock the door behind him, and wait for the time it took a candle to burn.

Today was no different.

But unlike other days, as soon as he pushed open the stale wooden door, he saw a young man sitting at the wooden table in the cellar, browsing a text bearing the imprint of a cross.

Matt placed the candlestick he was carrying to one side, nodded slightly in greeting, and spoke with respectful tones.

"Respected Lord Demon King, may I ask if you have any instructions?"

If the residents of Silver Pine Town were to witness this scene, they would probably be so shocked that their jaws would drop; they would not believe their eyes, ears, and mouths—

This handsome young man was the Demon King?

Priest Matt must have been mistaken!

Luo Yan, while flipping through the "Holy Word Book" of the Saint Sis Church with interest, casually asked.

"Has a guy named Jack come to see you?"

Priest Matt nodded.

"I received him in the chapel."

Luo Yan turned another page of the book.

"What do you make of him?"

Matt pondered for a moment, then answered meticulously.

"The man's eyes were full of worldly desires; I could not find a trace of piety in them. He showed considerable respect, but it was not for me personally; rather, it was for my status and for you, standing behind me."

"The fellow is indeed like that, but it's not necessarily a bad thing as it is."

Luo Yan's intent on appraising was not Jack's character, rather, it was to see how Matt's intellect had developed.

Now it seemed that the priest was developing quite well. Although he inherited some personality traits of his body's original owner, he had not buried himself in theological studies as the latter had, but could consider problems from a secular perspective.

This was important.

Luo Yan closed the book in his hand and then took out two round-bottomed flasks and a piece of paper from his chest, placing them on the pine table. He then instructed in a low voice.

"The green potion is to alleviate rot; three drops a day should be enough for you. The transparent one is pine nut-flavored perfume, which can cover up some unpleasant smells; you decide the amount."

"As for this piece of paper, it's the list of new goods I need you to procure. Once you've handled that, move them to the cellar and then make sure to lock the door tightly at night; I will arrange the rest."

The goods to be procured were mainly food items, such as grains and bread.

These items were very common in Silver Pine Town.

Especially during the harvest season, the price of grain was often pushed very low.

"Understood."

Matt nodded respectfully, took the potion and the note, and tucked them into his bosom.

"Do you have any further orders?"

"There is one more thing."

Luo Yan nodded and then pointed to a wooden crate behind him.

"Open it."

Matt swiftly complied, opening the crate to find a bundle of silk inside.

He paused briefly, a look of surprise crossing his face as he looked up at the Lord Demon King.

"This is..."

"You may consider it a special and expensive type of silk, suitable for making clothes," Luo Yan said offhandedly, "I would like you to find out if anyone is interested in this."

Despite several setbacks, the Very First Textile Factory of the Great Graveyard had finally been established, and this bundle of silk was the first product off the production line.

It was said that in order to achieve the ideal product effect, three little players had squeezed an Earth Cave Spider dry, nearly breaking their own backs in the process.

Although Luo Yan only provided a potion and simply made a request, barely exerting any effort, he was quite supportive of the three little players' entrepreneurial plans.

The church's ledger in Silver Pine Town did indeed have funds, but most of the assets were in fields and properties in Thunder City; liquid assets were a very small part.

In order not to consume resources without replenishing them, the Great Graveyard had to start some profitable industries.

Selling coal directly was not very convenient.

Better to start with high-value products!

As he contemplated the silk in his hands, Priest Matt spoke thoughtfully.

"...I have heard that Baron Ges of Silver Pine Town has a fondness for attending high society soirees; that gentleman would surely be interested in something that could allow him to stand out at parties. If Sheriff Adela were to present it to the baron as a gift... What do you think?"

Luo Yan didn't give an affirmative or negative answer but instead returned the question to him.

"I have entrusted you with this item, so it's up to you to decide how to use it. Of course, I suggest you consult with Sheriff Adela, including Jack from Thunder City... they are more familiar with local circumstances than you or I."
