Meteor Fall Master in the 'Starry Abyss'

Chapter 199: Dragon Island (Part 16)

The man tilted his head, murmuring softly to the butterfly, then raised his hand. Obediently, the butterfly fluttered up and landed on the curve of his index finger. His gaze was gentle, despite his black and white priest robes resembling funeral attire. That gentleness, that considerate demeanor, couldn't possibly be a pretense.

Perhaps sensing someone watching, the priest turned his head to glance in the direction of Dialan's location.

Only when viewed from the front could one realize how terrifying his eyes were, rusty blood red like iron. Yet his features remained refined and carried the innocence of recent adulthood.

"(Unknown language) Who's there?"

His eyes were clearly on Dialan, but the rusty-red pupils reflected the lush greenery of the trees, perceiving without seeing anyone.

Though she couldn't understand the language, Dialan knew what he meant: he was questioning if someone stood there.

Just as Dialan found herself at a loss, a tall armored figure emerged slowly from the shadows:

"(Unknown language) Don't worry, Father Curran Raven. That child couldn't come over; she's not in the Cevanti Star Realm and certainly not on Gavin Star."

The priest turned to look at the armored figure and said:

"(Unknown language) Mr. Wilde, is it the soul spirits you usually communicate with? I can hear their voices but cannot see their forms. Perhaps they're spectres. I could hold a ritual to help them find true peace."

"(Unknown language) No! Father Curran Raven, you've killed quite a number of people and soul spirits recently, and the Empire Health Bureau is rigorously investigating you. If you don't want to expose the 'Rampant Armor' identity, you'd better continue practicing medicine and making coffins honestly."

Wilde persuaded him for quite a while before finally calming the priest down.

He turned toward Dialan:

"It's truly remarkable that you managed to transfer your Will over here. Sadly, the barriers of the Cevanti Star Realm prevent your physical form from entering."

"Wilde... Sir?" Dialan looked at the fearsome, horrifying figure clad in biological armor before her, hesitated, and asked, "Is this your appearance?"

"Er, well..."

At that moment, Wilde Chimaera was almost adorned with three distinct creatures, forming a suit of armor. The main body was that of a lion, with its mouth sealing a fully enclosed face armor. Between his arms and torso extended membrane wings resembling those of a bat, and below preserved a humanoid base, displaying pronounced chitinous exoskeleton features. Behind him, the long tail of a scorpion swayed, erasing footprints from the ground.

"Wilde, have you always presented the form of Descending Armor to outsiders?"

Father Curran Raven crossed his arms and said peculiarly:

"Your current wandering state should be more dangerous than mine, right? The lab people might capture you at any moment. The military has labeled you as a 'deserter,' you know?"

"Dialan isn't a bad child. She's the partner of an old friend of mine—though, given the fast time flow there, four months ago she was just an embryo."

"Is that so? I was wondering how you escaped the lab and found acquaintances..."

Father Curran Raven glanced at Dialan's location and said:

"You all chat first. The afternoon free clinic is about to start. I won't keep you company—Wilde, revert to your original form, lest you scare people."

"Alright, alright, carry on with your work."

Wilde waved to see the priest off, then turned to Dialan. The biological armor on him melted quickly like boiling chocolate, sending out heat waves as it retracted into his body.

Plop.

Three oddly shaped gems fell into the palm of his hand, and a rugged blonde middle-aged man appeared before Dialan. He waved and said:

"Yo, Dialan, long time no see—this is my true self. As you can see, just an ordinary person."

He scratched his forehead and said:

"Well, I used to be. Now, maybe not so ordinary, just saying."

Dialan was a bit dazed:

"The 'Wild Armor' Chimaera, turns out, is just... human?"

An otherworldly being that had been friends with the 'Doctor' Senator for decades now looked so ordinary.

"For someone like me, infected by the Mortality Virus, to still be recognized as human, I'm truly grateful."

Wilde chuckled, taking a seat at the garden pavilion:

"Okay then, let's not delve into the distant matters. What's today's problem? Is it about the 'Eternal Star God'? That creature is fearsome even in the legends of Cevanti. Our deities here casually destroy heavens and earth, quite different from your divine clan that walks everywhere. Our gods don't care about our survival. Did you see that priest? That fellow was cultivated as a priest since childhood. The will and conduct codes of deities have seeped into his bones..."

Ordinarily, Dialan would listen to the other's stories and exchanges. It helped in understanding the other's world and identity.

But now—

"Mr. Wilde, this should be my last visit."

"So you say, even though the priest has become strong enough to be called 'Rampant Armor' and continues creating crystallizations, he still must remain discreet and hide his identity—Err, what did you just say?"

Wilde paused and then looked up at her, asking:

"Dialan, has something happened over there?"

"Yes." Dialan nodded and said, "The Society has allied with evil gods. The situation is dire, my homeland has been destroyed, and the Narrative Civilization hopes I can find Mr. Leoz, whom I mentioned to you, to get him to join the Empire and fight against the enemies together."

"That sounds like it might not be a bad thing?"

"It could lead to death."

Dialan said:

"The number of evil gods and the Society is unprecedentedly vast, and... Gaia will also appear."

"…Is that so."

Wilde nodded:

"No wonder you would feel afraid. That man must be very important to you, right? You don't want him facing danger, I understand."

"It's not just that."

Dialan nodded and said:

"Li Aozi had many endings erased by Lord Entropy, now only two remain. The Empire says one ending is terrifying and indescribable, while the other is for me and him to coexist harmoniously..."

"And then?"

"Then, live out the rest of life and even complete my mission in that ending."

"That's good!" Wilde exclaimed: "The 'Doctor' also hopes you can complete your mission. Besides, you, a child without emotions, can find your other half. Isn't it wonderful?"

"It is, but it's very dangerous."
