Chapter 237: GodHood

"Bishop Roxana, may I ask what you wish to discuss?"

Liens directly inquired.

From their previous conversation, he could tell that Bishop Roxana likely wanted to tell him something important before leaving, and might even ask him for a favor.

"Mr. Liens, do you happen to know about the 'God of Absolute Fairness' behind the Rebel Army?"

Bishop Roxana did not directly answer Liens' question, but instead posed one to him first.

"I know a bit about that existence, and have even had a brief conversation with that existence."

Liens nodded in response.

"I didn't expect Mr. Liens to have conversed with that existence."

Upon hearing this, Bishop Roxana showed a surprised expression, but she quickly composed herself and said to Liens with a serious tone:

"The topic of our discussion will be greatly related to that existence… Mr. Liens, do you understand the relationship between the Old Gods and the current Legends?"

This time, before Liens could respond, Bishop Roxana continued to answer her own question: "From the perspective of divine rank, the Old Gods and current Legends are actually of equal standing; both are truly existences that have transcended mortals."

"However, unlike current Legends, the Old Gods possess Godhood. Godhood is both the Old Gods' authority and the duties they must fulfill."

"Of course, that was the standard thousands of years ago. What exactly is different now compared to thousands of years ago is not something I can know."

"That 'God of Absolute Fairness' was also known as the 'God of Contract' thousands of years ago, a powerful deity who wielded the authority of contract."

"And the information I am about to share is related to 'Godhood'."

At this point, perhaps feeling that the information about "Godhood" was too important, Bishop Roxana's expression became even more serious.

The new term "Godhood" also piqued Liens' curiosity. He looked at Bishop Roxana with some anticipation, awaiting more revelations from her.

"According to the information I received from above, that 'God of Absolute Fairness' is in the process of abandoning its Godhood and re-treading the current Legend."

"At least half of the current turmoil in the Hartwin Kingdom can be attributed to that existence. As for the other half, it's likely that this kingdom has truly reached its end."

"Over the past five hundred years, the royal family and nobility, who once led the people to clear obstacles and establish the nation, have also fallen into depravity, becoming a massive burden weighing down on the populace."

"Sigh~"

Bishop Roxana sighed, unsure if she was lamenting the kingdom's demise or pitying the oppressed common folk.

However, Liens was not concerned with the fate of the Hartwin Kingdom, so he spoke up to prompt Bishop Roxana to return to the main topic: "Bishop, could you explain what Legend is?"

"I'm not clear on that either; 'above' only told me this term and didn't explain much."

"'Above' warned that the entire Hartwin Kingdom has now become the domain of 'Legend', and the environment has therefore become very suitable for Extraordinary Ones to advance."

"In this environment, bottlenecks will be easier to break through than before, and advancement will therefore become much simpler... but this benefit is not free."

"Fate has long since put a price on this bestowal."

"Anyone still within the Hartwin Kingdom's borders will find it difficult to escape the influence of fate. Driven by fate, everyone is a character in this 'Legend'."

"Whether as an obstacle or an aid… This is also why I haven't left the church. Within the church, at least some of fate's influence can be reduced."

"As a bishop, if I were to be influenced, it could bring a greater crisis to the church, and I am not skilled in combat, making it difficult to defend the church."

Bishop Roxana explained why she hadn't actively sought out Liens.

As for Bishop Roxana's statement that she was not skilled in combat, Liens knew she wasn't lying.

This was not only because he could read emotions, but also because he had probed Bishop Roxana in the Instance , and she was indeed a bit weak, just as he had perceived.

Furthermore, Bishop Roxana's mention of Influence of fate reminded him of something that happened a few days ago.

That day, Gars came to find him.

...

"Come in, the door isn't locked."

Liens rose from his meditation and called out to the figure who had been pacing outside the door.

Hearing the permission, Gars' face lit up, and he immediately gently opened the door, walked in, and quickly approached Liens.

"Is there something you need me for?"

It wasn't that Liens wanted to immediately ask why someone was looking for him, but rather that with the strength he now displayed, unless it was something important, even Ben wouldn't come to disturb him. Of course, Ben probably didn't have time to chat with him right now either.

Moreover, although Gars was much more mature now and no longer wore his emotions on his sleeve, he could still discern the urgency in Gars' heart at this moment.

"Mr. Liens…"

"We were roommates after all, there's no need to be so polite. Just call me Liens, or Heier if you prefer, since I use that name too."

Liens interrupted Gars' honorific this time, telling him to just call him by his name.

"Liens, huh… Then I'll still call you Heier, after all, I've been calling you that for over half a month, I'm a bit used to it."

"Heier, I've come on behalf of Lady Lucrezia. She hopes you can go and help her. As for compensation, Lady Lucrezia said anything she possesses is open for discussion."

Gars stated his purpose to Liens, and though he changed his address for Liens, the politeness in his words remained unchanged.

Seeing this, Liens knew that this roommate would likely drift further and further away in the future.

"If you are interested, I will contact Lady Lucrezia right now so she can discuss the specifics with you."

Gars continued.

"I once owed Lucrezia a great favor. If what she needs help with is within my capabilities, I will repay this favor."

"Contact her. Let's see what kind of help she needs from me."

Upon hearing this, Gars immediately took out a palm-sized, several-centimeter-thick metal compass from his Storage. Its edges had several different buttons.

Gars pressed one of the buttons, then placed it on the ground. The compass glowed faintly, and after a moment, Lucrezia's figure appeared in a translucent projection suspended above the compass.

At this moment, she was no longer wearing that alluring armor, but had changed into light clothing, which seemed to signify a change in her status.

However, that 'ready to burst forth' feeling still existed; her voluptuous figure was particularly striking under her form-fitting clothes.

"Long time no see, Heier. No, I should say Liens. I didn't expect you to deceive me not only with your name, but also your appearance."

"It seems that half a year ago, when you said 'we'll meet again if fate allows,' you weren't just saying it."

Lucrezia's voice came from the phantom. The alchemical compass not only simulated her figure but also transmitted her voice synchronously.

"You two chat, I'll head out first."

Gars interjected. With that, he turned and quickly left the room, closing the door behind him.
