North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 568: Unexpected Developments (Part 3)

Peter was temporarily detained in the detention room of the bureau, and all visits were temporarily prohibited. It's estimated that only the agents investigating the case can access him to understand the situation.

Jimmy originally wanted to make a few calls to inquire about the situation with the field team, but now he doesn't dare. Senator Pratt is dead, and the actions Dave arranged targeting Senator Pratt earlier should all stop. The gang business handled by Ruiz is fine since they're all hidden from the spotlight. It's troublesome for everyone else; it's unclear what's really going on now.

However, there's good news. In this case investigation, someone from the Manhattan office is still involved in the task force. Mahong joined the headquarters task force. If you want to know the progress, you might need to wait until a break to ask Mahong.

The number of people in the headquarters task force hasn't been fixed yet; other departments' people might gradually come over.

The office staff were collectively working overtime. In the evening, Jimmy received a call from Dave: "Jimmy, come to my office."

Jimmy: "Okay, Deputy Director Dave."

In Deputy Director Dave's office, Jimmy and Dave sat on the sofa, holding a cigar freshly cut and lit.

When Jimmy came in, Dave was already sitting on the sofa, the cigar in his hand was already half smoked. Seeing Jimmy come over, Dave also let him sit and handed him one.

Thankfully, the two were just smoking cigars, not drinking; otherwise, it would seem too much like celebrating something.

Dave: "Jimmy, what do you think of this matter?"

Jimmy: "I don't really believe Peter could have done such a thing, but now the case is sealed, I have no idea what the investigation has uncovered."

Dave: "The bullet was fired from Peter's gun, and there are shooting residues confirmed on his hands and clothes."

Jimmy frowned and asked: "Was it really him?"

Dave: "Peter claims that it was James Bennett who fired the shot. When he was confronting Senator Pratt with a gun, he fired at Pratt because of self-defense and then put the gun on the table.

While checking Senator Pratt, James Bennett tried to escape. Peter picked up his gun to threaten him but let him get away.

Then Karaway and her team arrived and arrested Peter."

Jimmy: "No other witnesses?"

Dave: "No, and the physical evidence is extremely unfavorable to Peter. Jimmy, what do you think?"

Jimmy: "The top priority is to issue a warrant for James Bennett. If he was at the scene, there's no way no one saw him. There must be some trace of his whereabouts.

Second, investigate the deceased, Senator Pratt's whereabouts and information, as well as his recent contacts. James Bennett hasn't contacted him in decades, why did he suddenly come out to kill him? Something must have happened between them that provoked James Bennett.

Third, interrogate Peter and investigate his whereabouts and communication records to determine whether he fired the shot, the reason for firing, and if there are any suspicions of hiring a hitman."

Dave considered for a while, looked at Jimmy and said: "Do you want to join the task force?"

Jimmy fell silent, taking a deep drag from the cigar and then exhaling. He shook his head: "No, it's not appropriate for me to get involved now. I used to be an intern agent under Peter for half a year, so I need to avoid suspicion. Besides, I'm not a field agent, so it's not suitable for me to handle it now.

Let's let the joint investigation team handle it instead. It probably won't end easily."

Dave nodded, and the two just sat there smoking cigars, looking at the brightly lit Manhattan night view outside the window.
