North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 991: Unexpected Developments

After Senator Pratt's call with Director Karaway, he understood that since Peter and his team had already found the location of the evidence box, they would definitely go to retrieve it as soon as possible. He was also very concerned about what exactly the evidence in that box was.

Even though he was already a senator, any problems related to his previous cases could very well end his political career completely.

After talking with Peter, Director Karaway requested Peter to form a team to search for the evidence, asking the bureau to get it first. But in reality, she was merely saying that, mostly looking to delay Peter and his team's progress.

Before the investigation, when Peter met with Hughes, Hughes said a few very important words to him, "You are the law. Senator Pratt is dirty. Pratt and Karaway are obstructing justice. What you need to do is to fight back, take them down."

Hughes was truly angry. As a veteran agent with 30 years of service, being pushed out like this was intolerable.

Although he had always demanded that every agent must not cross the line, he had to admit at this moment that the various borderline methods Peter and Neil Cavrey used to solve cases in the past, although resulted in good outcomes with a high case-solving rate, were criticized by many for their tactics.

Now that Hughes was no longer the field supervisor, he certainly wanted to encourage Peter to continue their tactics to carry out the counterattack against Senator Pratt and Director Karaway.

-----------------

Jimmy was completely unaware of Peter and his team's investigation, and he had no interest in finding out after multiple warnings, naturally making him stay honest.

Recently, besides figuring out how to handle admissions-related matters, he was more focused on considering how many people he needed to reach out to to strengthen connections.

Since his engagement, he had only met some people, and afterward, Jimmy had mainly stayed in New York, without going anywhere. So, neither James, Tom, nor Lambert, Steven, had seen him, and he rarely called them to chat, so taking some time to go around was necessary.

Now, with the field office in Manhattan busy and not wanting Jimmy involved, perhaps it would be best to take leave and just go on a trip.

If he needed to travel around, there were many places Jimmy needed to visit, not something that could be accomplished in just a day or two, perhaps a long leave would be good for everyone.

To plan it out, if everything went smoothly, he would need to fly directly from New York to Florida, then to Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and then fly to Montana to check out the former Jimmy's inheritance, before coming back. This trip couldn't be done in three or five days.

He always felt there wasn't enough time, and even if he asked for leave, he couldn't just take a half-month or a month's leave directly. Calculating it this way, it seemed impossible to complete the whole trip no matter what.

Jimmy talked with Nia at night, explaining his plans to her. Nia was very interested, but she didn't agree with Jimmy's idea of taking a long leave and hoped to visit Jimmy's friends and family together after their wedding at the end of the year or next year.

Him going alone for a trip seemed too deliberate, though the reasons seemed good, like meeting and chatting with former friends to strengthen friendships, but a simple meeting might not achieve such effects.

If he went with Nia, the reasons would be very sufficient. The two were already engaged and would be getting married next year, so now going to meet friends and introduce his fiancée would be a very legitimate reason.

However, Nia had just taken a month off not long ago and couldn't possibly take leave again, even though her father was the deputy director. She couldn't blatantly take long leaves.

Therefore, Jimmy's several-day plan was aborted from the start; there was nothing he could do, and since Nia said so, he could only cancel the plan for now.

-----------------

Jimmy leaned back in the office chair, legs crossed on the table, dazing in the office when the phone on the desk rang. Picking up the call, Jimmy stood up and went to Mrs. Mason's office, "Mrs. Mason, is there any task you want me to handle?"

Mrs. Mason shook her head, "Have you heard?"

Jimmy: "Heard what? I've been in the office all the time."

Mrs. Mason: "Peter Bullock is suspected of murdering Senator Terrance Pratt, and he was just arrested by Director Karaway."

Jimmy was astonished, "What!? Impossible, how could someone as timid as him commit murder against Senator Pratt?"

Mrs. Mason: "We still haven't received specific information, I just got the notification."

At this time, Isabel knocked and entered as well. Mrs. Mason looked at both of them, saying, "Isabel, Jimmy, go and find out the situation, and confirm our external statements with Director Karaway."

Isabel and Jimmy nodded and turned to leave, but Mrs. Mason added, "Jimmy, hold on. Remember, you are not a field agent; do not get involved in their investigation."

Jimmy turned and listened to Mrs. Mason's instructions, nodding in response, "I understand, thank you, Mrs. Mason."

Mrs. Mason waved her hand, and the two left the office, heading to the field office.

Amanda Calaway wasn't in the office. Isabel called her and then sat with Jimmy in the adjacent conference room, waiting for them to return.

Jimmy looked at the empty office outside; they seemed to have a major operation, and it appeared most of the people were out, leaving only some internal affairs and technical staff in the office.
