North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 542: Going Through the Motions

Jimmy didn't go home; instead, he returned directly to the FBI office. According to the orders from above, he needed to quickly write up a report. So, even though it was late, he had to work overtime.

This time, he's suffered significant losses; because it was after work hours, he drove his own Mercedes CLS when he went out. Even though he was unharmed during the gun battle, the car was hit more than just three to five times. The specifics need to be checked by the NYPD during the daytime. He returned to the office with the help of a patrol officer who drove him back, and he still has an FBI-issued car he can use.

This case will wait until tomorrow when Mahong receives it from the NYPD. Afterward, the FBI can handle the remaining parts. Initially, due to the investigation, the NYPD had more personnel involved, and the stolen fire truck was originally their case to handle. Therefore, at least for tonight, the case is still in the NYPD's hands.

Mahong has a reason to take over the case; Jimmy, who was shot during the daytime, is an FBI senior agent and a federal employee. It's a standard procedure for federal institutions to handle related cases.

However, this case involves a wide scope. Aside from the fire truck getting robbed, two firefighters are missing, there's another armed vehicle robbery along with a murder in the trunk, and a federal agent was shot in broad daylight. With all of these complexities, Mahong probably feels frustrated as well.

Actually, Jimmy really doesn't want to write the report right now because this affair is definitely not over.

At least from the intelligence he has now, there's still an unknown assassin, Perkins, somewhere outside. Since there are two people who hijacked the fire truck to send the woman who was shot to the hospital, and two more people on the coast receiving them, there must be at least a base here in New York. This base should have backup personnel, and there are external receiving points. The team's numbers definitely aren't small.

Chuck still doesn't know that the gunman is the restaurant's waiter. At least he hasn't communicated this to Jimmy, so he doesn't know if he took Jimmy's earlier advice to send more people to watch over the female assassin in the hospital. If Jimmy's guess is correct, it's likely someone will try to rescue her soon.

But Jimmy doesn't even know how to remind him, because Chuck isn't clear about certain things, making it hard to explain. Jimmy is deducing Mrs. Perkins based on tips from the Poison Snake Gang and Charon.

Looking at the blank document on the computer in front of him, Jimmy couldn't figure out what to write; he took out a piece of paper and could only start drafting.

As Perkins was about to leave, she received a phone notification, and immediately canceled her action plan.

Their training camp doesn't produce many assassins because they aren't a powerful faction. Cultivating a qualified assassin requires a lot of funding, only large factions can mass-produce qualified assassins.

Emily is already the best among the prospective assassins released recently, which is why she was arranged to be in New York with Perkins, who would assess the suitability of her coming-of-age task. Once Perkins deemed her qualified, she could return to the training camp to complete the ceremony, after which she could take on missions outside.

Now, Emily's mission is completed, but due to a minor issue causing a chain reaction, it led to Emily being shot. She was then captured by police under their base's protection, making things not so easily resolved.

Back in the living room, sitting on the couch thinking, Perkins picked up the phone and dialed a number: "When will you arrive?"

"Tomorrow. What happened?"

Perkins: "Get here as soon as possible; there's been an incident."

"OK, I'll call you in the morning."

Perkins hung up the phone, turned off the lights, and went to rest in the bedroom.

In the morning, Perkins' phone rang. She reported the location, and soon a car arrived in front of the house. One man and three women got out of the sedan and rang the doorbell.

Perkins went to the door, her right hand on her back grabbing the gun grip, her left hand opened the door. Seeing it was her people outside, she relaxed her hand and opened the door: "Come in."

The four walked into the room, "What's exactly happened?"

-----------------

Early in the morning, Jimmy woke up in the office, raised his hand to check his watch, and went to the restroom to handle personal affairs. He returned to his office, picked up the printed report on the desk, and reviewed it again.

This report doesn't have much special content, except he changed the reason why he went out at night to track the fire truck. It was originally about investigating the shot female assassin, but he altered it to say he was at Kevin's house accompanying his girlfriend. Based on Kevin's status, he asked Jimmy to provide support.

Since the fire truck was missing, and two firefighters disappeared, this was a big deal. Kevin was, of course, very anxious; his own son-in-law is an FBI senior agent, stronger than an ordinary officer. So even though it's slightly against protocol, it's understandable.

Jimmy thought of this reason at dawn and called Kevin, who had no objections. So despite it feeling a little like fabricating evidence, generally, no one wants to mess with an NYPD deputy commissioner.

Now reviewing the report he wrote last night, there shouldn't be any major issues throughout. Jimmy put down the report, propped his feet up on the table, and continued to rest, awaiting others to arrive at work.

Hughes arrived at the office early today, and upon entering, he took off his suit jacket, immediately picked up the phone and dialed Jimmy's mobile: "Jimmy, is the report ready?"
