Ending the day of suffering, Jimmy can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Nia hadn't agreed to let Jimmy come to her house before, probably because her family had some opinions.
This visit, it's considered that a concern has been more or less resolved. Jimmy opened the safe and took out a small box from inside, it was a ring he secretly picked while shopping with Nia before. He hadn't used it before, but now it seems the time to use it is near.
Jimmy returned to the Anti-Terrorism Bureau. Caitlin, like Watson before, would stay in the office as long as there was nothing going on.
Jimmy: "Caitlin, good morning. Any news from DC these past two days?"
Caitlin frowned at Jimmy, "No, why are you in such a hurry?"
Jimmy: "I'm going back to work, I just don't want to be investigated while on the job."
Caitlin: "Just do your regular work, go on, I'll notify you."
Jimmy nodded, turned to leave but then turned back again, "Caitlin, one more thing. I need a computer that can connect to the bureau's database, along with my account. It's been dormant before, I've never activated the permissions."
Caitlin had a puzzled expression: "What?"
Jimmy nodded: "I've been in hibernation since coming out of the training camp, never returned to Langley."
Caitlin shook her head: "No, that doesn't follow protocol, who did the assessment and mission assignments for you?"
Jimmy: "My immediate superior at the time, Kodaiski."
Caitlin: "I understand, I'll investigate. You go back first."
Jimmy nodded and left Caitlin's office. Asking Caitlin for an account was Tom's suggestion. As a "dead man," Tom couldn't manage these official things for Jimmy anymore. If Tom weren't "dead," he could handle many things, but now it's problematic.
In fact, Jimmy is lacking too much now. He is basically completely ignorant about the CIA's internal matters. Getting an account from Caitlin is not only for his use but also to send a message that Jimmy is entirely unfamiliar with the CIA's internal affairs. He's just an operative, so if in the future he accidentally slips up, he has a reason to cover his tracks.
Informing Caitlin in advance means there would be someone to take the blame when the time comes. Although this might not be effective, it's the best plan Jimmy has thought of. He cannot rope Tom into learning every single detail. If Tom were interested in teaching him, he would have done it already. In fact, Jimmy feels Tom's current state is not right, very lethargic, seemingly the previous revenge operation severely drained his energy.
Having thought almost thoroughly about it, Jimmy finally decided to return to work. He called Hughes, tidied up, and went to work the next day.
Jimmy returned to his office, after over two months away, his desk hadn't been touched, because he had tidied it up before leaving. Apart from the monitor and folder on the desk, the relevant documents were kept in the drawer and the box under the desk.
Mahong and Philicia were not in the office; also, judging by their desks, it seemed they hadn't been to the office for several days; it was dusty.
Jimmy frowned as he thought for a moment, then took out his phone and directly dialed Mahong's number.
Mahong: "Jimmy, what's up?"
Jimmy: "Ah, I came back to work today, seeing you guys aren't in the office, so I called to ask. Are you on a business trip? It seems like you haven't been to the office for some days."
Mahong: "Yes, you should first go find Hughes to arrange tasks, we won't be back recently."
Jimmy: "What's the case? Can I help with anything?"
Mahong: "Nothing, we don't need you for now, you just go find Hughes."
Jimmy: "OK, you all stay safe outside. Bye."
Jimmy hung up the phone, first cleaned the dust on the desk, organized his materials, and then left the office to go to Hughes' office.
Jimmy knocked on the door and went in, "Hughes, I'm back to work."
Hughes nodded, "How is it?"
Jimmy: "Should be no problem."
Hughes: "That's good. Mahong and the others have been temporarily reassigned to the Chicago office, and you'll temporarily act as the Homicide Team lead."
Jimmy: "What's happening over there? Why were both of them transferred back?"
Hughes: "There was a breakout at a state prison there, and someone Mahong previously caught was among those who escaped, so the Chicago office hopes he should handle it."
Jimmy smirked. What a joke, since when does an FBI office think their people are inadequate and needs to bring back those already reassigned? This reason is too perfunctory.
Jimmy went to Dallas for special reasons, not because there were no agents there. Obviously, it's the same for Mahong and the others; they must have some other task to handle, and this is just a cover reason.
Jimmy: "Alright, any cases recently?"
Hughes: "Previous cases have been transferred to the Brooklyn Queens field office, you wait for now. I'll contact Agent Ryan Phillips, and if he has extra cases, he'll transfer one to you first."
Jimmy: "OK, I'll head back then."
Jimmy left Hughes' office and returned to his own. Taking advantage of the current free time, he cleaned all the tea sets, brewed himself a pot of tea, then opened the computer to check the cases.
Sure enough, all the cases had agents assigned to them, none were unassigned at the moment. Just wait, handling a case is just right to change the mindset. Recently, he's been involved in too much action, which actually affected him quite a bit, although it hasn't shown up obviously yet.
