North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 797: 479 Investigation_2

Going undercover and surveying the scene were routine operations for Tom. Having assumed a new identity, he used some special methods to investigate the DC police department's data information. It took him just two days to determine Rick's residential address and his commuting routes. This cost him nothing more than a little money and a small threat to certain individuals.

Originally, he had intended to pass the investigation materials directly to Jimmy, but after some thought, Tom decided to talk to Mrs. Walz instead.

After this operation, Jimmy might continue targeting Greg, and as for the former CIA Deputy Director, Tom didn't have any relation. However, from his last conversation with Mrs. Walz, it seemed she was quite familiar with Greg.

Tom visited Mrs. Walz's forest villa again, where, upon learning about what Veronica's son planned to do, she just sighed. In the end, she nodded her head, agreeing to their action.

It wasn't just an agreement to their action, but Mrs. Walz also provided additional information, Greg's residence in DC, at the top floor of a certain apartment. However, due to Mrs. Walz's physical limitations, she had to confirm many things over the phone, so even with the address, she couldn't clarify Greg's security situation and the details inside the house. Tom or Jimmy would have to figure these out on their own.

This was already a huge gain. For someone like Greg, even using the CIA system to investigate might not yield the real address. Now with the lead from Mrs. Walz, at least they could cut down half of Jimmy's investigation time.

Tom bid Mrs. Walz farewell, and he also invited her to stay at his Florida residence when she had the time.

After gathering all the information, Tom sent a message to Jimmy. When Jimmy had responded, Tom had already returned to New York, and it was only then that Tom bought a ticket to New York for the next day.

-----------------

These past few days, Jimmy had been accompanying Nia, who was on a break, for some fun, shopping, and sailing, finally letting loose for once. Moreover, this time Nia had chosen the activities, and Jimmy perfectly fulfilled the role of company and wallet.

Nia was just taking a regular weekend break, so there wasn't much time, and even so, it still left Jimmy feeling exhausted. It wasn't a physical problem but rather the psychological pressure, especially during the deep-sea fishing trip.

Both Nia and Jimmy were deep-sea fishing for the first time and lacked experience, but the captain was an old hand. From the start of the boat ride, he was imparting all sorts of safety knowledge and fishing skills, which of course, came at a price.

Nia was lucky; the second fish she hooked was a big one, which nearly pulled her off the fishing boat. Fortunately, Jimmy quickly grabbed hold of her. However, due to a lack of experience, the safety cord tied to Nia's fishing rod wasn't secured properly, and the deep-sea rod was taken off by the big fish.

That slip-up almost resulted in Nia falling into the water and compelled Jimmy to focus all his attention on safety. He gave his own fishing rod to Nia and concentrated on assisting her with pulling in the line. They ended up with a good catch: a few salmon, a flounder, and even managed to hook a marlin with the salmon as bait under the captain's guidance.

Of course, they still had to pay for the lost fishing rod, and though it wasn't much, it led Jimmy to decide that once he became more adept at fishing, he would definitely get a couple of his own fishing rods.

In the end, after several hours, all the catch was sold off by the captain. Though they wanted to bring one home to cook themselves, considering they were quite tired that day, they ultimately decided to go out for dinner instead.

After dinner, Jimmy drove Nia back to her home and then returned to his apartment. The first thing he did upon arriving was check the untraceable phone. Tom's message had arrived, and after replying to it, he prepared to rest.

The next day, Tom arranged to meet Jimmy in Central Park and unusually, they met in broad daylight at the park, which was a rare occurrence. Jimmy had always thought that such matters were not to be seen and were handled at night.

Tom handed Jimmy a USB drive, "All the information I've found out is in here. Deal with it yourself."

Jimmy took the USB drive, "Thanks for the hard work, Tom. By the way, could you arrange for two pistols for me in DC? The ones I previously used have been destroyed."

Looking around, Tom gave an address, then took off a key from his keychain and handed it to Jimmy, "Take this and don't return it after using it; just find a place to destroy it."

Jimmy: "Thank you. What are you going to do next?"

Tom: "I'm returning to Florida, there's still stuff to sort out there."

Jimmy took out a bank card from his pocket, "Please, you must accept this, Tom. The PIN is my birthday."

Tom suddenly widened his eyes at Jimmy, then furrowed his brow, he didn't reach out to take it, "What do you mean?"

Jimmy: "Congratulations on your successful retirement. It's a small token of appreciation, accept it. You've always been such a help to me, let me give something back."

Understanding Tom's expression, Jimmy quickly added, "Don't worry, I've got enough money, you can manage this portion on your own, it won't affect me."

Only then did Tom take the card, nodding his head, "Alright, I'll be heading back then. Goodbye, Jimmy."

Jimmy: "Goodbye, Tom, have a safe trip."

-----------------

Jimmy felt like he had resolved a piece of unfinished business. It wasn't until he was paying Steven in Albuquerque that he realized, from beginning to end, he had always passively accepted Tom's gifts and had never returned the favor.

To do something for Tom was unquestionably his duty, but what could make a seasoned CIA agent like Tom, who had decades of service under his belt, turn to Jimmy? At least in recent years, Jimmy had not helped Tom at all, so in the end, Jimmy decided to use the most banal method to repay his social debt.

The card contained money that Justin had laundered for him, which was from the operations in Dallas and Houston, not a huge sum by any means. The take from his second trip to Albuquerque was larger, but that money was still being processed by Justin and hadn't been passed to Jimmy, so naturally, he couldn't give Tom an extra share.

On the way home, Jimmy bought a new laptop in a store, and once home, he plugged in a USB drive to review the data. For security reasons, Jimmy hardly ever used his own computer to open unfamiliar USB drives or files anymore - besides, laptops weren't expensive, and there was no need to buy a top-of-the-line model.

Rick's information was very comprehensive: the address of the National Research Analysis Group, his home address, car registration number, the route he took to and from work, and importantly, photos of Rick, so Jimmy would not hit the wrong target.

Jimmy checked the location; Rick's home was not in a downtown apartment but in the suburbs, which was fortunate, as causing trouble in the city center was always a hassle.

Putting his own gun back in the safe, he knew he definitely couldn't use it this time. Fortunately, Tom had reserve weaponry in DC, sparing him the trouble of having to source from the gangs.

Jimmy left without his ID, just a wallet with cash, cards, and his own driver's license, plus a backup ID. After getting his belongings together, Jimmy changed into casual clothes, headed out, and hailed a cab to Brooklyn. There, he found a small car dealership and bought a second-hand car, which he drove straight to DC.

He took only a burner phone, leaving behind even the FBI-issued phone, as it had a tracker that could pinpoint his location. Since he was on leave, being unreachable by phone wasn't a major issue.

The drive from New York to DC was just over 300 kilometers, but because the initial stretch was through New York City, it took a little longer. By the time Jimmy arrived in DC, it was already night.

To avoid any trouble, Jimmy checked into a motel, paying cash, which had no surveillance, and didn't require an ID check, perfect for someone like Jimmy on a mission.
