North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 777: 470 Lambert's Investigation

The situation in Albuquerque is settled and Jimmy can finally return to Dallas. All the inconvenient items are stored in the warehouse; he's yet to decide how to deal with them. Justin has already been to Houston once; having him come to Albuquerque again seems a bit much.

Jimmy, dragging his suitcase, took a cab to the airport. A practiced routine of showing his credentials, filling out forms, and bringing a gun on the plane allowed him to return smoothly to Dallas, where he checked into the hotel next to the FBI's Dallas office.

The next day, Jimmy changed his clothes early in the morning and went to the FBI office, heading directly to Supervisor Lambert's office as usual.

Jimmy, holding a case file, approached Supervisor Lambert's desk, "Good morning, Supervisor Lambert. Sorry, I couldn't find a suspect for this case." After speaking, he placed the file on Lambert's desk.

Lambert looked at Jimmy and nodded, "You've been gone a while, over a month."

Jimmy smiled too, "The leads in the case were too vague. I found some potential leads, but unfortunately, after a long search in Houston and Albuquerque, I couldn't find anything, so I had to come back."

Lambert, "Okay, let's put this case on hold for now. Go find Agent Ray Hope and partner up with him for the time being."

Jimmy nodded, "Alright, I'll go down then."

Lambert watched Jimmy leave the office, picked up the file, didn't even open it, and directly placed it in a drawer. Jimmy's return meant his personal matters were likely settled, so the information they had received could now be investigated and confirmed.

Lambert picked up the phone on the desk to arrange the investigation. In fact, during this past month, they had constantly monitored Jimmy's cell phone, though they did not check it daily, just every few days.

In Texas, Dallas, Houston, Laredo, Austin, El Paso, and in New Mexico – Los Alamos, Albuquerque – Jimmy had traveled to quite a number of places; switching locations the next day at times, as if he were continuously driving or tracking someone.

Lambert had paid attention to these places to see if anything unusual had occurred. He hadn't immediately sent someone to verify some information mainly because he feared an investigation would interrupt whatever Jimmy was up to. Having said they'd let him handle his business, they tried not to interfere midway.

Now that the matter was over, it was naturally time to investigate. Lambert was also curious about what Jimmy had been doing during this time.

Jimmy went downstairs, and surprisingly, Ray wasn't in his office. After calling him, Jimmy simply sat and waited in his office.

About an hour later, Ray arrived at the office. He greeted Jimmy and went to his own desk, "Hey Jimmy, did you solve your case?"

Jimmy shook his head, "It was too tough, too few leads, and it took a lot of time. Lambert asked me to partner up with you for now. Got any tasks recently?"

Ray nodded, sat down, and opened a drawer to take out a large file, "I've been handling a bank heist case recently. But I remember back in Manhattan, you were with the Homicide Team, right?"

Jimmy nodded, "Yes, Homicide Team, but I've also worked on other cases."

Ray, "Alright, but today, you take a rest. I've got some other matters to take care of. Here's the case file; take it home and have a look."

Jimmy nodded, "Okay, I'm staying at the hotel nearby. Call me if you need me. Oh, and can you help me request a vehicle?"

Ray stood up, "No problem, come with me."

The process was smooth, giving Jimmy the impression that people in Dallas were easy to talk to. Ray merely escorted Jimmy through a quick procedure, and the administrative staff gave him the keys after a simple identity check, allowing him to immediately drive off in an assigned Victoria Crown, an old workhorse.

After driving away from the FBI office, Jimmy went to stock up on some drinks, then returned to the hotel. Just by the thickness of the folder, he could tell that the case Ray was handling was not simple. Jimmy opened a can of beer and began reading the file.

The incident took place at a bank in Princeton, to the northeast of Dallas. A few days ago, during normal banking hours at 10:13 AM, a white male wearing a mask and baseball cap entered the bank. At a counter, he set down his backpack, then handed a note to the teller.

The teller took the note as usual, only to see it handwritten with, "Don't scream, I have a gun, I don't want to hurt anyone, please put the money in my bag."

The teller was startled, looked up at the man, whose hand was inside his jacket, pulling it out slightly to show the handgun to the teller.

Without resisting, the teller took out all the cash from the drawer, placing it on the counter, while also triggering a silent alarm in the drawer.

The man used one hand to put the money in his backpack, took out the gun, pointed it at the teller while retreating a few steps, then turned towards the security guard, threatening him to open the door. He then left on a motorcycle parked outside.

Minutes after the robber left the bank, a patrol officer arrived at the front, and after understanding the situation, he reported it while driving after the motorcycle's direction of escape. Unfortunately, he couldn't find the robber's whereabouts.

The local police deployed a significant portion of their force to investigate the surrounding area, reporting to the State Police and the FBI. They confirmed the robber's motorcycle route through surveillance, but once it left the city, the trail was lost; also, the motorcycle's plate didn't match the vehicle, indicating the plates were meticulously prepared fakes.
