Jimmy packed his belongings, as he did not want to leave his luggage with Tony, especially since it contained his findings; of course, he couldn't just leave it at the hotel either. Besides his clothes and gun, he packed everything else, found a nearby mini storage to store everything, returned the car he rented, and then went back to the hotel to rest.
The next day, Tony came to pick up Jimmy and directly drove to the airport. Noticing that Tony's direction was not towards the Albuquerque airport in the south, Jimmy inquired and learned that Tony had actually arranged for a private jet?
Jimmy: "Damn, you really are rich."
Tony: "It's rented, just tens of thousands of dollars."
Well, having never collaborated with CIA agents, Jimmy did not know how extravagant they could be; he had always traveled via commercial flights, truly incomparable.
Moreover, Jimmy was carrying a handgun, and there was no security check at the private airport—straight from the car to the plane, a seamless process. Was there no security prepared, or did Tony have some special arrangement?
It was a Cessna CJ1 small jet, with only four seats in the cabin. After boarding the plane, Tony briefly spoke to the pilot who then returned to the cockpit to contact the control tower and prepare for takeoff.
Private jets really were convenient; after staying on the plane for just over an hour, they arrived at a private airport near Laredo. Again, there was no security check upon disembarking. They just got into a car parked nearby; Tony continued to drive off. The car keys hadn't even been removed. How had Tony arranged this?
Outside a house in the wilderness, Jimmy looked at the river in front of him, "Tony, you said there's a secret tunnel here, right? But this is a river; how did they dig a tunnel below it?"
Tony: "You'll know when you see it tonight. Come on, your stuff is in the house."
Jimmy and Tony entered the house, which was empty. On the second floor, in one room, Tony pulled out a suitcase from the closet, "Everything you need is in here. Rest up, we'll take action tonight. You reviewed the map, right? There won't be support on the other side. By the way, there wasn't enough time to get the jammer you wanted... "
Jimmy nodded looking at the equipment in front of him. The jammer was mainly to prevent them from calling for reinforcements or directly alerting the police. Since it was unavailable, that was fine.
He had already reviewed all the maps and satellite images; from the tunnel exit to Barrio's estate was just over three kilometers—a distance he could cover quickly even without a vehicle.
Sometimes Jimmy wondered if these drug traffickers never watched movies. So many films had depicted assaulting estates, yet how could they keep themselves so exposed while most films illustrated all the possibilities?
The CIA had the necessary authority to access satellite imagery, and they had provided Jimmy with images capturing the estate's topography and surrounding environment, complete with GPS coordinates. If they were to assault, it was like having the map lit up; only lacking the specific internal structure of the buildings within the estate, which for Jimmy wasn't an issue. Once Jimmy got close to the estate, it would have no more secrets.
Jimmy first inspected all the guns and bullets, installing silencers and even test fired a few rounds in the room; the effect was satisfactory.
Besides the guns and bullet-proof vest, there was a passport in the suitcase. Jimmy glanced at it—the photo was his, but obviously, the information was not.
As night fell, Tony, driving a fully armed Jimmy, headed towards a seemingly nondescript location in the wilderness. They parked the car, and Tony started to fiddle with some stones on the ground. After clearing the ground, he lifted a hatch, revealing an entrance with steel-reinforced foot pegs embedded into the tunnel wall.
Tony looked at Jimmy and said, "Jimmy, the rest is up to you."
Jimmy somewhat grinned, "Isn't this too conspicuous? And how come you're so familiar with it?"
Tony chuckled, "Goodbye, call me when it's done."
Jimmy: "Take care of my gun."
Tony nodded, and Jimmy started to descend using the foot pegs. Standing in the tunnel, Jimmy was absolutely certain that this tunnel wasn't something drug traffickers could achieve—it was reinforced with concrete.
Moreover, the tunnel was positioned at least 15 meters underground, with the Grand River overhead, approximately 100 meters in width at the deepest point with a few meters, and an average depth of no more than 2 meters—drastically different scale of engineering required.
The tunnel stretched over a meter wide and approximately 2 meters high. Due to the concrete reinforcement, although not completely flat, there wasn't much unevenness—how could a mere drug trafficker manage such a massive project?
Jimmy turned to look at the hatch through which he'd entered; the door had been closed again, but Tony had not left and was standing nearby immobile.
The stability of the tunnel was not a concern anymore; this definitely was a channel specifically utilized by the CIA, and the only unknown factor left was the people Jimmy had yet to encounter.
If this tunnel was a CIA-operated channel, then the people ahead... might not be drug traffickers.
As Jimmy moved forward, he pondered over his current role carrying out Caitlin's tasks, agreeing to cooperate as he planned to retire, but now it seemed like she might want to use this gun for something else.
