North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 690: 435 Identity Exposure_3

Jimmy saw it during work hours; Mahong and the others just frowned without saying anything. Jimmy picked up his clothes and went to Hughes's office.

Jimmy, "Hughes, did you see the news?"

Hughes, "What?"

Jimmy, "Watson has been arrested, it seems because of a project called the Black Stonecrop."

Hughes nodded, "That has nothing to do with us; it won't affect us."

Jimmy, "We worked with them a few times before, are you sure we won't be investigated? Some of the past investigations weren't official..."

Hughes, "Alright, don't worry. This is an internal matter for the CIA; it doesn't involve us and they won't be investigating. Don't worry, go back."

Jimmy nodded his head and turned around to leave Hughes's office.

Just as Jimmy was about to return to his office, his phone rang with an unfamiliar number. Jimmy answered, and a woman's voice came through: "Agent Jimmy Yang?"

Jimmy, "That's me, who are you?"

"Start authentication: Demon Tower."

Jimmy was shocked; he was too familiar with this authentication code and had never dared forget it, "Response: Yellowstone."

"Authentication complete. Agent Yang, please head to the New York Anti-Terrorism Bureau as soon as possible and contact Acting Director Katherine Prado."

"Received."

The worst had happened; Jimmy's information had been dug up. Since the call had come through on his FBI phone, that meant his identity had been completely confirmed; there was no escaping it.

Jimmy returned to the office, greeted Mahong, and said he needed to step out. Mahong nodded, and Jimmy turned and left the office, heading downstairs to drive to the Anti-Terrorism Bureau.

The atmosphere at the Anti-Terrorism Bureau had become very tense in the few days since Jimmy had last been there; it was evident that the people downstairs were spirited, a stark contrast to their previous lax demeanor.

Jimmy registered at the front desk, got the permission to go upstairs, and headed for the Acting Director's office, which was right next to Watson's office. It was clearly a recent setup, as Jimmy remembered this room had been a small meeting room before.

"Knock, knock," Jimmy knocked on the door, and a middle-aged blonde woman inside said, "Come in."

Jimmy pushed open the door and gently closed it behind him.

Jimmy, "Ms. Prado, Agent Jimmy Yang."

Katherine Prado pushed a fingerprint scanner across the table. Jimmy placed his hand on it, and the previously red light turned green.

Katherine nodded at the computer, took back the fingerprint scanner, and said, "Jimmy, may I call you that? OK, when did you start your undercover assignment?"

Jimmy, "Four years ago."

Katherine, "Objective?"

Jimmy, "To infiltrate and wait for activation."

Katherine, "Well done, becoming an FBI Senior Agent means you've handled many cases over the years."

Jimmy didn't respond, his face remained calm, showing no emotion. He had simulated this scenario countless times; now, he was merely transferring his previous rehearsals into real performance.

Katherine, "Now, I have an assignment for you." After saying this, she picked up a folder from a pile of files, glanced at it, and handed it to Jimmy.

Jimmy, "Sorry, ma'am, my undercover task requires activation by my direct superior, and I am not able to accept your task now."

Katherine, "Your superior, Kodaiski, has died three years ago, and now I have taken over your files."

Jimmy squinted his eyes, "What about Senior Director Conklin?"

Katherine sighed, "He's dead too, two years ago."

Jimmy, "Senior Consultant Ward Abbott?"

Katherine, "He's also dead, a few months ago. Stop asking; the Tripping Stone project has been canceled, all related directors have either died or been captured."

Jimmy, "I still cannot confirm your command authority."

Katherine opened a drawer, took out a file folder from the top, and handed it to Jimmy.

Jimmy opened it and saw it was his CIA file, only this copy looked like a photocopy, as the photo and signatures at the bottom were directly printed on the paper. Tom had said this file was secretly kept in Langley, even if discovered it should've been handled by the headquarters in Langley, how could the file be so easily obtained and brought to New York?

Jimmy browsed through the file; it was exactly the same as the one Tom had left him, except there was no CIA identity card.
