North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 684: 433 Back into the Anti-Terrorism Bureau_3

While observing around, Jimmy pondered over the matter of Byrne and whether getting involved would be of any benefit to him.

He had already learned from Tom that Byrne was a predecessor in the identity Jimmy was using. Jimmy's biggest issue lay in the CIA's secret archives; if Byrne truly appeared in New York, would they investigate the former agent's data to use an agent against another agent?

If it were to arrange for an agent to assassinate Byrne, apart from the agents currently with the Anti-Terrorism Bureau, it was very likely that they would activate him, an agent dormant within the country.

However, that CIA cell phone was still dismantled with the battery out, lying in his safe gathering dust. They definitely couldn't contact him. He was just worried that if they couldn't get in touch, they'd investigate his own data. It was highly likely they could discover his past as a police officer and subsequent entry into the FBI. By cross-referencing data, his identity could be easily determined, prompting them to contact and forcibly activate him.

Of course, this possibility existed, but it wasn't certain to happen. Moreover, if they had to investigate that much data to locate him, perhaps by then Byrne would have been taken out, making activation unnecessary.

Tom had disappeared for a long time, without appearances or contact. If not for knowing his abilities in concealing himself, Jimmy would have really been worried that he was dead. Regarding Tom's makeup skills, Jimmy was truly impressed—every time he met him in New York, he appeared in a different guise and looked incredibly authentic, virtually undetectable unless scrutinized closely.

Now facing the potential of exposure and unable to find Tom, Jimmy felt somewhat uneasy. Currently, Jimmy wasn't really worried about what mission he might be tasked with once activated, but his overt identity as an FBI agent was now his real identity. Given the typical tendencies of the CIA, it would likely involve another assassination mission, in which he had no interest.

After being activated, it's not like he could just quit the CIA, could he? What if they arranged an assassination squad to take him out? Having killed many before, if he was then put on a national watch list as a serial killer, it would be utterly miserable. With the CIA, you simply couldn't gamble on their limits, because they really had none.

After waiting a while, Jimmy suddenly noticed a person appearing within Heart Eye's range. His movements didn't resemble normal walking; instead, he moved stealthily, constantly looking in all directions.

This person seemed suspicious. Judging by his location, he appeared to have come from the adjacent fire escape, and he was clearly unfamiliar with the area, constantly looking for something.

Jimmy shifted his focus from Kerry in the command center to this person and quietly circled the surroundings. Since Watson had taken many people with him when he had left earlier, there were hardly any people left in offices other than the command center on this floor.

When this person appeared beside the command center, Jimmy smiled. "It was indeed you."

Byrne approached the side of the command center, where he inserted a stick into the doorknob and then left from the side, making his way around to the office managed by Watson.

Jimmy observed his actions throughout. However, having considered a lot earlier, Jimmy decided not to get involved in this matter. Now whatever Byrne did had nothing to do with him; he was just an onlooker waiting in the conference room.

Jimmy changed his position to the middle of the conference room, a spot from which he couldn't even see outside the command center. This was the perfect place to claim he hadn't seen anything when they came to investigate, because he really couldn't see from there.
