North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 625: 409 Difficult Investigation

While Jimmy and Mahong were investigating their tracks, Philicia had already contacted the police who would go to the car owner's house to conduct an investigation and feed information back. This only required time.

The ground here was hard, a type where no traces could be left. After walking for a while, they turned back and started searching on the dirt path by the shoulder of the road until they reached the Hudson River. It was only within Heart Eye's range that Jimmy spotted a shadow. Going closer, he discovered some clothes thrown behind a bush by the riverside. They appeared to belong to the car owner's luggage since they were clearly folded, but had scattered some when thrown out. Nearby were also two orange prison suits, reeking of sewer odor, disgustingly foul.

Jimmy, "Mahong, there's something here."

Seeing the clothes, Mahong beckoned the local police to set up a cordon and prevented them from approaching. There might be their footprints here and forensic experts were needed for the investigation. Jimmy and Mahong carefully retreated.

Jimmy, "It looks like they might have left via the river."

Mahong, "Not necessarily. There's also a railroad here. They might have walked forwards or backwards along the railroad."

Jimmy, "That's possible, but I still think the railroad is unlikely. There's only one rail line, which must have been built for some special business, definitely not for passenger service. If this railroad is still operating, the trains would definitely not run frequently, and they wouldn't have the luck to just encounter a train in operation."

Mahong, "Hmm, you have a point. Let's investigate the Hudson River first."

Looking at the Hudson River in front of him and feeling the headache, Mahong turned around and called Philicia over, "Philicia, contact the police station and have them inform the State Police and police departments around the Hudson River to investigate. Also, bring over two K9 squads; we need their assistance."

Jimmy, "Another thing, he could have deliberately deceived us by walking along the riverbank. We're at a location without a dock; ordinary boats can't dock here to pick people up. Either they happened upon a small boat, or they're walking along the river looking for a spot."

Mahong nodded, "Jimmy, you go north along the river and search, we'll go south."

Jimmy nodded and moved northward along the riverbank. From the moment he found that car, Heart Eye had activated and hadn't stopped. Now, searching along the riverbank was a bit easier because Heart Eye could detect things hidden behind other objects which were invisible to the normal eye.

This area wasn't part of a normal route, with no roads or buildings nearby, just a wildland. There were sparse bushes and shrubs by the riverside. Within Heart Eye's range, Jimmy wasn't worried about being ambushed here, but walking was slow. The terrain was rough, cars couldn't get here, and how Jimmy wished he had a motorcycle, which would at least allow him to cruise around here.

While walking, pondering, and scanning around, Jimmy slowly moved and distanced further from Mahong and the others.

Jimmy had become accustomed to handling cases alone. After walking a long stretch, his mind focused solely on the pursuit, almost forgetting there were two people waiting on the other side. He checked his phone which showed only two bars of signal; with full signal being four bars, "FK, this is still New York State. Despite the remote location, it shouldn't be like this."

Regarding the mobile signal coverage in America, Jimmy had no words left. There were definitely no issues in the city and surrounding areas but in the wilderness, there were always remote corners without signal. Fortunately, his current location wasn't too remote; even a slight signal was enough to make a call.

Jimmy called Mahong to report his current position, who had not found anything significant yet and would continue further northward in his investigation. Mahong had no objections; they also were searching south while waiting for news from the police station and notifying other departments for joint investigation.

Jimmy continued forward. After some more searching, he found a small path leading to the river and, at the river, an obvious privately-made wooden rack which looked like an impromptu dock.

Jimmy looked left and right from this dock, which had no boats around. Judging by the dock's appearance, it could at most accommodate a small fishing vessel—its secluded environment being perfect for a fugitive escape if there had originally been a boat.

Jimmy didn't immediately inform Mahong, but chose to follow the path inward, quickly finding a cabin. It was a crudely made, DIY hunter's cabin, obviously crafted by one or two individuals.

Reaching near the cabin, Heart Eye detected no one else around. Jimmy put on disposable gloves and gently pushed open the cabin door. Oddly enough, despite no lock, there wasn't even a simple latch made of wood to prevent animals from entering.

The cabin looked disorderly. Jimmy didn't step inside but observed from the opening before retreating to dial Mahong's number.

Jimmy, "Mahong, I've found a small dock and a hunter's cabin here, and it looks like someone has rummaged through the cabin."

Mahong, "Don't disturb the scene, wait for us to come over."

Jimmy, "Alright, I walked here along the river, but I'm not sure about the route if you come from the highway."
