North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 580: Everything is interconnected_2

Jimmy watched the kettle boil, opened the tea bag and rinsed the teaware with some boiling water before starting to brew the tea. Hughes didn't say much, just watched Jimmy busy at work.

Jimmy, "Let me go over the sequence of events one more time. I really didn't notice anything unusual. Hughes, feel free to interrupt me at any time."

Jimmy started from when he got on the highway, saying there was no need to talk about the visit to the gun store before that. He recounted everything in detail from the traffic congestion to the oil tanker explosion, to the gunfight, and his own responses. Later, he accepted an invitation from Chief Richard to have a chat at his place, spent a night in the hotel arranged by the police station, and then returned to New York, leaving nothing out.

Hughes sipped the tea while listening to Jimmy's account. He didn't interrupt Jimmy until he had finished speaking.

Eventually, Hughes nodded, "Jimmy, if anyone comes to you wanting to know about this case, don't bother with them. Tell them to go to the Philadelphia Police Department themselves."

Jimmy, "Understood. Is there anything special about this?"

Hughes shook his head, "Not clear at the moment, but there's definitely something going on. However, it's none of our business, not in our jurisdiction. I'm heading back."

After enjoying some doughnuts and tea and clarifying Jimmy's situation, Hughes left Jimmy's office in good spirits.

Jimmy was left alone with his tea, equally unclear about what exactly had happened in Philadelphia. It was strange, just an armored truck heist, although the amount involved was considerable, but none of the robbers from the two vehicles got away. Jimmy had even made sure to leave at least two alive, so why were there still consequences?

Could it be that the robbers were part of some gang or special organization? Even then, they shouldn't be contacting Hughes. Jimmy was the FBI agent who had fired shots at the scene, yet he hadn't received any calls in the past couple of days.

Now a qualified FBI agent, Jimmy couldn't help but want to delve into any case with anomalies to see what they were hiding, especially since he had no other cases to handle. He kept contemplating whether he had missed something, whether there was something hidden that he hadn't noticed. This is what it means to be idle.

After several infusions, the tea had lost much of its flavor, so Jimmy poured it out and started cleaning the teaware. Before he finished, the door was pushed open.

Jimmy looked up, "Ruiz, perfect timing, come have some tea." Luckily he hadn't packed everything up yet, just in time to brew the second sachet.

Ruiz, "You're living the life, tossing everything my way while you sit here sipping tea."

Jimmy, "Don't put it that way, it just so happens the case falls under your jurisdiction. Have a doughnut."

Ruiz grabbed a doughnut to fill his stomach, "The 'gift' you sent me, that man has been released."

While brewing tea, Jimmy asked, "Which man?"

Ruiz was speechless, "The guy you told me to pick up from the bar a few days ago, Teddy."

Jimmy, "Oh, right, I remember, Woody's friend. How is he? Did you find the source of the drugs?"

Ruiz, "Some progress, but the trail went cold. Teddy stole a bag from some hoodlum, which contained five packs. He wasn't very clear-headed, his first time using that stuff and he overdid it. This batch is indeed high-quality, nearly 70% purity, definitely not what you'd find on the street."

Jimmy, "Can you trace it back to the source? If it's too difficult, just hand it over to the DEA."

Ruiz, "No go, the current lead's linked to you. Razor is completely done for, now I've got him tucked away in Little Italy. Trinidad's Serra has taken over Razor's territory, that's a significant power boost, and he has also entered our regular surveillance. Azte, who is collaborating with Trinidad, is the owner of this batch of drugs."

Jimmy, "Oh, I'm not concerned about them. How's Razor doing now?"

Ruiz, "Pretty good, although he failed, at least he's still alive. He'll stay put a little longer, and once this period is over, I'll let him out."

Jimmy, "Okay, it's your call. As long as he's useful, that's what matters."

Ruiz, "Yeah, he's agreed to be a witness. He's made a deal with the Federation Prosecutor. As long as he takes down a few people, he'll be free."

Jimmy, "OK, that would fulfill our agreement with him. By the way, you mentioned the drugs brought by the Azte gang, you must have some lead or plan by now, right?"

Ruiz shook his head, "Can't handle it for now, they only sent a few gunmen, the boss and the people behind him didn't show up. Plus, they're at the US-Mexico border, which is just too far from us. The main problem now is how they'll smuggle the drugs in, if all else fails, we might have to find an informant in Trinidad."

Jimmy, "Who's their behind-the-scenes boss?"

Ruiz, "Not sure, only know a name, Borsa, no other information, no idea if it's a man or woman, no age, no photos."

Jimmy couldn't help but laugh out loud, "You say there's no lead, yet you know the boss's name. Did you catch one of their people?"

Ruiz, "Yeah, made a deal, got the info and let them go."

Jimmy, "If you ask me, these border gangs aren't our business to meddle with, just throw it to the DEA, they're more professional with this stuff, plus they've got more people over there."

Ruiz, "It's a bit of a pity, let's follow up a little longer."

The two drank tea and ate donuts, killed some time, and then Ruiz left.

All things considered, one couldn't tell if Jimmy's luck was good or bad, he had managed to connect a few seemingly unrelated cases and ended up uncovering a major drug operation.

Jimmy stood up and headed for the restroom, hadn't done a thing all morning except for drinking tea, which was ridiculous, it felt like he had finished his water intake for the whole day.

"Ding-a-ling" Jimmy picked up the phone and answered, "This is Jimmy."

"Butcher? You got that nickname too, Jimmy?" Chuck's voice came through.

Jimmy was speechless, "Nia tell you that?"

Chuck laughed heartily, "Of course, not bad, kid, having a nickname."

Jimmy, "It's not a good nickname, no need to talk about it. Oh, and tell Nia not to spread it around."

Suddenly there was silence on Chuck's end, Jimmy listened closely, "Too late, she already told a few people."

Jimmy, "Oh! FK!"

Chuck, "How about it, when are you going to show us what 'Butcher' can do?"

Jimmy, "What for?"

Chuck, "To see the Butcher's skills! I'll book the training ground, let's have some fun."

Jimmy didn't know what to say, after his video had aired on the news before, Nia had mentioned letting him show them something impressive, and just when they had nearly forgotten about it for various reasons, they brought it up again because he carelessly mentioned a nickname yesterday.

Jimmy, "Sigh! Alright, seems I have to show something."

Chuck, "I'll let you know when." And with that, he hung up the phone.

Nia and her big mouth, blabbing about everything, is there no such thing as privacy anymore!!

Jimmy could only sigh, it was all brought on himself, at least the FBI's records weren't something the NYPD could access, if they really saw Jimmy's track record, they'd probably already be considering a capture plan, a bona fide maniac.

In New York, to find a proper training ground, NYPD folks would surely know best since they have a large number of personnel, and every precinct would have their own cooperated shooting ranges, you just need to ask around to figure out which range is better, Chuck and his crew would definitely not pick some ordinary indoor range for Jimmy to use.

Jimmy didn't wait in the office for Chuck to set up a time and place, he tidied his office, left the Federation building, and drove to Little Italy, since Razor was already safe, might as well meet and settle this matter, and consider the debt of gratitude fulfilled.
