North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 542: 375 The Sorrow of the Undercover_3

It was already after work hours, and when they drove to the restaurant, it happened to be the busiest time for arrivals. Many seats were already taken.

Jimmy and Nia each ordered from the menu and poured themselves a pre-dinner drink, "Congratulations on completing your first case, how do you feel?"

Nia clinked glasses with Jimmy, took a light sip, and then shook her head, "Not good at all. The past couple of days, I just can't get the image of that girl out of my mind. It would have been better if we could've arrived at the location earlier."

Jimmy, "Oh, stop thinking about that. The case is over; it's time to relax. I mean, didn't you feel a sense of accomplishment when the case was closed?"

Nia nodded, "There was some, yes. When I was a Patrol Officer, I just patrolled and dealt with violations and other minor cases. This was my first time working on such a big case. Agent Lars is truly amazing. Her judgment on the kidnapper's route was spot on. Chuck said to follow her and learn a thing or two when he assigned her to me."

Jimmy, "Of course, Agent Lars is a seasoned detective, especially in charge of kidnapping and missing person cases, her abilities are indeed very strong. Don't compare yourself with her; it would be quite disheartening. The difference between a detective and a patrol officer is significant. When I first joined the FBI, I felt like an idiot, the cases I handled as a county police officer were just child's play."

Nia, "Yeah, I feel it. I had that feeling when I started to familiarize myself with the cases following Chuck, many of his cases are too complex."

Jimmy, "Alright, let's not talk about cases anymore. You haven't been back for a few days; isn't Chuck going to give you some time off to rest?"

Nia, "I haven't asked yet, but I am indeed tired. I'll talk to Chuck about it tomorrow."

The waiter served the meal, interrupting Jimmy and Nia's conversation, "Nia, what are your plans next? Going out to have fun?"

Nia shook her head, "I don't want to take a long vacation for now, just a couple of days of rest will do."

Jimmy, "How about tonight?"

Nia, "Tonight?"

Jimmy nodded, "How about going to see a movie after this, just to relax a bit."

Nia shook her head, "Not tonight, I need to go back home first."

Jimmy, "Then let's make it tomorrow. Go home and have a good night's rest tonight."

Nia, "My father knows I'm back today; he called this afternoon and asked me to come home, I had no choice."

They chatted over dinner, and an hour later, Jimmy drove Nia home, then he took the bureau car straight to his apartment. After getting out of the car, he took the gear bag from the trunk. Jimmy hadn't had the chance to return to Federal Square to switch to his own car, as he went directly to the police station that afternoon.

Just as Jimmy was preparing to freshen up, his phone rang. He glanced at it and tensed.

Jimmy, "Ruiz, is there news from Seventeen?"

Ruiz, "Yeah, he's found a clue. Head over to the Bronx now. Seventeen will wait for you at the coffee shop."

Jimmy, "Which coffee shop?"

Ruiz, "He said you know which one."

Jimmy, "Understood, I'm on my way."

Jimmy hung up, got dressed, grabbed his gear bag, and left. At that moment, he couldn't help but feel relieved that Nia wasn't here today, otherwise it would have been awkward.

It was the same coffee shop, Seventeen was still at the corner spot, and Jimmy saw him as soon as he entered.

"Cappuccino." Jimmy sat opposite Seventeen, ordered a coffee from the waiter, and then looked at Seventeen, "How's your man?"

Seventeen shook his head slightly, not speaking until after the waiter brought the coffee and left, "He's dead. We found the body, two shots in the back. The people around didn't hear any distinct gunfire; clearly, the shooter used a silencer, and the chosen spot was excellent, no surveillance, and a little alley where hardly anyone passes by."

Jimmy frowned, "A silencer? Could it be the gunman I'm looking for had discovered him?"

Seventeen, "It's possible it was him. I have pinpointed his last area of investigation." Seventeen pulled out a piece of paper, which Jimmy took to look at. It was a section cut out directly from a map, with a street circled in pen.

Seventeen, "It's here, but I'm not sure exactly which building. You'll have to investigate that yourself."

Jimmy nodded, "Thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow."

Seventeen picked up his cup, drank the coffee inside, and then got up to leave. Jimmy quickly called out to him, "Seventeen, do you have any requests?"

Seventeen looked at Jimmy, did not sit back down, but simply walked over, patted Jimmy on the shoulder, and left without saying a word.
