Jimmy returned to the bureau and found Ruiz, "Ruiz, got any plans after work? How about a drink?"
Ruiz looked at Jimmy, blinked, and said, "Something up?"
Jimmy smiled, "Just a small matter."
Ruiz said, "OK."
That evening, Jimmy and Ruiz went to the bar next to Jimmy's apartment.
Jimmy approached the bar, knocked on the countertop, and called out, "Woody, two whiskeys."
Bartender Woody looked up at Jimmy and said with a smile, "You're here early today, Jimmy. The usual?"
Jimmy nodded. Woody poured two whiskeys, and Jimmy, taking them, sat down at a table opposite Ruiz.
Ruiz said, "You seem quite familiar here, must have spent a lot of time at this spot."
Jimmy, smiling, replied, "My apartment is just next door; it's convenient here and a bit quieter too."
Ruiz took a sip of whiskey, "So, what's the matter?"
Jimmy said, "Razor came to me today, Serra from Trinidad declared war on them."
Ruiz replied, "That's pretty common; these little gang scraps happen all the time."
Jimmy said, "But Razor wants me to step in if necessary, to save him."
Ruiz frowned, "Is it that serious?"
Jimmy nodded, "According to him, Trinidad has made connections with the Azte gang from the US-Mexico border, and they might get significant armed support."
Ruiz took a sharp breath, "Someone is trying to enter New York again; can't these guys ever relax."
Jimmy said, "I'm not familiar with gangs, thought about it, and decided I still needed to verify their intel with you. Razor's a smart guy; seeking me out early to arrange a backup was probably the right move. Would he be of use to you in the worst-case scenario?"
Ruiz nodded, "Though not very useful, he could still serve as a witness. I get your point, I'll check it out tomorrow; if things come to that, I think he wouldn't refuse our request." Finished speaking, Ruiz chuckled quietly and continued, "Kid, how come everyone you get in touch with has some sort of issue? Razor of all people coming to you, I don't know if I should say you're trustworthy or just easy to fool."
Jimmy laughed too, "Whether it's trust or deception, it really doesn't matter, as long as he's prepared for the consequences of me finding out."
Ruiz nodded, "Yeah, as long as he's not completely foolish, he probably won't fool you too much, but don't trust him; likely, he's just putting up a smoke screen. The guy's smart; if he's preparing a way out, it's definitely not just through you."
Jimmy said, "I don't care, just consider it returning a favor he did for me before. Besides, it's killing two birds with one stone; your side could definitely use him too. After all, he's been a boss for a long time; he must have a lot of information."
Ruiz took a sip of his drink, "Yeah, this also gives us a bit of a heads up, and if necessary, we take them all down together."
The two casually drank and chatted for a while, and after some time, Ruiz put down his glass and left.
Jimmy, holding his drink, sat at the edge of the bar, "Woody, another one."
Bartender Woody had left a good impression on Jimmy, being talkative and quite the schmoozer, the key thing was Jimmy finding him oddly familiar, just couldn't quite place who he was, but he was sure he was a character from some movie or TV show he'd seen before.
Now, Jimmy didn't care about characters from movies or TV shows appearing in this world; for him, living a normal life was enough, even if they were protagonists or supporting characters from past films or series.
For the current Jimmy, there wasn't much that really worried him, not even Noah Watson from the Anti-Terrorism Bureau. As longer Jimmy settled into this world, he increasingly felt that he shouldn't distract himself with too many things; his mindset had already changed a lot from the past.
Just living normally was fine; this was his second life, and he should enjoy life, enjoy his job, and live happily. That was what he should pursue.
