"There's a bomb inside," the agent shouted as he ran toward the street.
Jimmy was a bit dumbfounded. He grabbed Riley and ran to the street, and another agent also ran over, dragging Joe Coleman with him. When gunshots rang out earlier, two agents who had been stationed at both ends of the street were already running toward them and converged on the street just in time.
"What's inside? Did you say there's a bomb?" Riley asked the agent who went inside to check.
Agent: "Yes, there's a bomb in one room with a timer on it. It isn't activated yet, but I'm worried it might go off."
Jimmy: "Riley, call for backup. The bomb squad from the Newark office should be quick, right?"
Riley first cursed at the house, then took out his phone to dial. As he dialed, he looked at the captured Joe Coleman, "Fxxk! Who puts a bomb in their own house? Are you f**king sick?"
This time, not only the bomb squad came but also the forensic team and an ambulance.
Jimmy was also scratching his head. Originally, Riley and their team were just assisting with the arrest, but now with a bomb here, could they successfully bring the dangerous Joe Coleman back to New York? Discovering a bomb attack in New Jersey meant they really couldn't release him; detaining him and bringing him back to the Newark office was appropriate.
Just as Jimmy was worried, Riley finished his call and came over, "Jimmy, you might not be able to take this guy directly. I think he needs to be brought back to our office for an investigation first."
Jimmy: "No, no, this person is important. There's a case in New York involving a several-hundred-kilogram bomb that needs his investigation. We can't afford this delay. Every second is precious."
Riley pointed at the house: "I didn't want this to happen either. Although you saved us just now, I can't just let you take him back. A bomb was found, and three people died, there's no way."
Jimmy patted Riley's arm, "OK, don't take him away just yet. I'll call the higher-ups; let's let them handle this."
Jimmy walked to the side, took out his phone, thought for a moment, and decided to first call Hughes. Although the support from the Newark office was requested by the Anti-Terrorism Bureau, as his own boss, it was always good to inform him first.
Jimmy: "Hughes, there's a problem."
Hughes: "What happened?"
Jimmy: "Explosion case suspect Joe Coleman was captured in Rutherford, New Jersey. Three armed criminals were killed on site, and they had opened fire on Newark's agents. The trouble is, another bomb was found at Joe Coleman's residence, and now the agent in charge, Riley Butler, wants to take him to the Newark office."
Hughes: "Why would Newark's people get involved?"
Jimmy: "The Anti-Terrorism Bureau requested their help investigating Joe Coleman's whereabouts here. I haven't notified the Anti-Terrorism Bureau yet."
Hughes thought for a few seconds: "First, contact Noah Watson from the Anti-Terrorism Bureau, let him coordinate with Newark. If it doesn't work out, call me back."
Jimmy: "Understood. I'm contacting the Anti-Terrorism Bureau now."
After hanging up with Hughes, Jimmy dialed Agent Gordon's number since he didn't have Noah Watson's number.
Gordon picked up the phone quickly, "Jimmy, any good news?"
Jimmy was speechless; you're too anxious. "Good news, Joe Coleman has been captured. Bad news, three armed criminals were killed at the scene, and another bomb was found. Now Newark's people want to take Joe Coleman back. Tell Noah about it, let him talk to Newark."
Gordon was really confused by the one good one bad news, after a pause, he said: "Can't you just bring him back yourself?"
Jimmy: "You think too highly of me. There are five people from Newark here, and I'm just one person, how can I bring him back? You better go find Noah now; we're relying on him now."
Gordon: "Alright, I'm on it now, wait for my call."
Jimmy hung up the phone and stared at the sky, exhaling a sigh, "What the f**k is all this."
A few minutes later, the ambulance had arrived, taking away the three deceased, and an agent left with the vehicle. The captured Joe Coleman was temporarily placed in the back seat of Riley's car, and the remaining agents began evacuating people from the neighboring houses.
The support from Newark arrived at the scene within about half an hour. Finally, Jimmy's phone rang again, Noah's voice came through: "Jimmy, bring the suspect back. We've talked it over here."
Jimmy: "OK, I'm now coordinating with Newark's agents."
Jimmy looked at Riley, who was also on the phone; it seemed both sides were anxious and had notified each other over the phone once they had results.
After hanging up the phone, Riley walked toward Jimmy: "Jimmy, the higher-ups agreed, you can take the man, but I need to come along."
Jimmy nodded. Riley turned and communicated arrangements with the other agents, walked to his car, and Jimmy led the way, followed by Riley's car, both heading to New York.
